6/21 WWE Raw in Dubuque, Ia.: New female ring announcer, Mickie James pins WWE Divas' Champion Maryse, John Cena vs. Randy Orton, Primo and Carlito vs. Priceless

WWE Raw house show
Dubuque, Ia. at Five Flags Center
Report by Dot Net Member MattheWWFanatic

As we’re near the arena to find a place to park me and my bro see Sign Guy walking into the building. Is this guy ever going to get a job or is he just going to ‘superfan’ his way into debt? It’s getting pretty sad.

Arena is probably 70 percent full and I’m guessing there was close to 3,000 people in attendance. Tons of Cena merchandise and Rey Mysterio masks being sold. I felt like I could have been the president of MENSA as I scanned the crowd, though.

The show starts off with a new ring announcer greeting us (possibly a weekend tryout). She was an Asian woman by the name of Angela, I thought they brought back Lena Yada (who?) when she first made her way to the ring. She was wearing a skin tight purple dress to show off her “assets” and had on four-inch silver/sparkly platforms that a female may wear in a club…yes, that kind of club. Johnny Ace really knows how to pick 'em.

Tonight’s officials: Mike Chioda and Jack Doane

1. Santino defeated The Brian Kendrick by rollup. The match was filled with comedy by Santino that the crowd ate up. Finish came when Santino reversed a rollup by TBK into one of his own. TBK is a super small guy, looks like the WR on a high school football team. No sign of Santina tonight.

The Bellas were in the crowd to wish the arena a Happy Father’s Day. They let a dad and his 2 kids go backstage, thanks for coming all the way to DBQ for that Bellas.

2. The Miz defeated Goldust (w/Hornswoggle) by DDT. Miz did mic work before the match running down the city (made me laugh, I’m from WI) and recapped what happened on RAW last Monday with Horndust and the t-shirt gun. Highlight of the match happened when Miz was knocked to the outside of the ring and Hornswoggle pounced on him and started to pummel Miz as the referee was distracted. Miz won when he reversed the Curtain Call into his DDT (where the opponent is on their knees). After the match, Miz attacked Hornswoggle when he was checking on Goldust.

3. Primo and Carlito defeated Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase by DQ-steel chair. This was probably the best match on the show. Legacy really worked the crowd and had people getting all over them for a variety of different things. The match started out with Carlito playing up them having too much baby oil on, to which Chioda agreed. Finish came when Carlito came in like “a house of fire” and Dibiase hit him with a chair as he went off the ropes. After the match Legacy got a few more chair shots in to leave the Colons lying.

4. Kofi defeated Matt Hardy and Shamus by Buzzsaw kick on Matt (Triple Threat-US Title). Shamus is a new guy out of developmental; he has crazy red hair and no pigment in his skin…poor Irishman. He cut a promo before the match saying how he was going to win the US Title tonight. Crowd didn’t care as they didn’t know who he was. Matt Hardy got chants of “Jeff is better” throughout and after the match but he came out to a strong babyface reaction as soon as his music hit. Kofi wins when he catches Matt with the Buzzsaw kick. Typical triple threat with one guy being outside while the other two pair off.

Intermission

5. Mickie defeated Maryse by jumping DDT (non-title). Maryse is smoking hot in person and Mickie is always a fan favorite. Started pretty slow to let people get back to their seats. Typical match you’ve seen between these two, just slower with more crowd interaction.

6. Big Show defeated MVP by chokeslam. Show won clean in a short match. Not much their and was disappointed not to see MVP have a good match with a capable opponent

7. John Cena defeated Randy Orton by DQ when Legacy interfered. John Cena gets a reaction like no one else I’ve been to a show to see. The arena was 90 percent cheers for the guy and kids are just going crazy jumping all over and screaming, he could do no wrong. Finish came when Legacy broke up an STFU. The Colons surprisingly make the save and once again Cody is left alone in the ring to play the bitch. He gets surrounded with all three guys taking their shots at him. Cena even busted out a flip-flop and fly bionic elbow before hitting the FU/Attitude Adjuster to send the crowd home happy.

Most Heat
1. Orton – helped he was fighting Cena
2. Miz - he’s just so easy to dislike, has an anti-charisma
3. Dibiase – was really active with the crowd throughout his tag match

Biggest Pop
1. Cena - anyone who doesn’t think he should be the #1 guy need to attend a house show
2. Hornswoggle – kid favorite, can’t boo a midget…I mean little person
3. Colons – for saving Cena in the main event

Fanatic’s Finale: The show was very good overall. The biggest complaint I have is that it was almost exactly two hours long which I think is too short for the price they charge. It wouldn’t have been hard to add another match or make big Show wrestle more than five minutes. I thought they were going to have a six-man to end the show when the Colons made the save for Cena which would have been a pleasant surprise for a main event. Did I mention the new ring girl was smoking hot? Look out Lillian, Angela is on the prowl.
