9/1 WWE Smackdown in Des Moines, Iowa: Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio in a Best of Three Falls match, Antonio Cesaro vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Sin Cara in a Triple Threat for the U.S. Title, Dolph Ziggler vs. Randy Orton
Sep 2, 2012 - 03:05 AM

WWE Smackdown live event
Des Moines, Iowa at the Wells Fargo Arena
Report by Dot Net reader Robert Duncan

1. Justin Gabriel pinned Heath Slater. Gabriel got the win with a version of the scorpion deathdrop.

2. Alicia Fox pinned Natalya. Alicia won with a Brisco roll after Natalya missed a charge into the corner. Natalya threw a temper tantrum after the match.

Dolph Ziggler appeared in a taped pre-match promo for his match with Randy Orton and bragging about his MITB and his future as the greatest ever in the business.

3. Ryback pinned Jinder Mahal with his finisher.

Footage aired of Triple H's speech on Raw. Fans were asked to tout their reactions to it and whether they thought he should retire.

4. The Usos defeated Michael McGillicutty and Johnny Curtis. McGillicutty was pinned after a doubleteam into the Samoan Drop.

5. Randy Orton pinned Dolph Ziggler. Orton won with an RKO in a great 20 minute match. Afterwards, Dolph got on the mic and said he was still Mr. Money in the Bank.

Intermission

6. Wade Barrett defeated Tyson Kidd. Barrett got on the mic beforehand and cut a really good promo about going back home and refining his bare knuckle skills.

7. Antonio Cesaro (w/Aksana) defeated Cody Rhodes and Sin Cara in a Triple Threat to retain the U.S. Title. Sin Cara hit Rhodes with a Tornado DDT, but Cesaro stole the pinfall. Sin Cara hit a springboard dropkick on the champion after the match.

The main event was determined by fan vote. Best of three falls received more votes than a Street Fight

8. Sheamus defeated Alberto Del Rio (w/Ricardo Rodriguez) two falls to one to retain the World Hvt. Championship. Great match between the two and both guys worked extremely hard. There was even some brawling outside the ring and use of the ring steps. Del Rio went over by pinfall to win the first fall when Ricardo grabbed Sheamus leg suplexing Del Rio back into the ring. The second fall saw Sheamus go over by pinfall when he countered the arm breaker attempt into a schoolboy rollup.
In the third fall, Sheamus finished Del Rio with the Brogue kick after some great back and forth near falls.

Attendance was around 8,000

Biggest Pops: Ryback, Sheamus, Orton
Most Heat: Ziggler, Del Rio, Slater
