5/24 WWE in San Paulo, Brazil: Chris Jericho incident, reader defends Jericho's actions and was not offended, C.M. Punk vs. Chris Jericho for the WWE Championship, John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler, no Rosa Mendes

WWE Raw live event
San Paulo, Brazil
Report by Dot Net reader Felipe Eiji

The attendence was 5,000 to 6,000 (the full capacity of the arena is 12,000), probably because of the rescheduling of the show.I attended the show with my father (that watched Brazilian Wrestling Federation when he was younger) and my brother. I think I was really lucky, because if they hadn't cancelled the show on Rio de Janeiro, the show on Sao Paulo would be cancelled. The crowd was very hot with some "Yes," "Undertaker," and "CM Punk" chants. This was the first-time ever live event on Brazil. The show started with the classic "Don't Try This At Home", but in Portuguese.

Justin Roberts appeared with a good pop and introduced John Laurinaitis with David Otunga. Big Johnny got a huge heat, it was almost impossible to hear him. He was selling his injuries from Over The Limit. The only thing I heard was "let's start the show" or something like this. Then, he left the ring.

1. Brodus Clay defeated JTG. Brodus got a good pop and no reaction for JTG. Classic squash from Brodus. He won with the splash. After the match, he and his dancers called some kids to the ring to dance with them.

2. David Otunga defeated Alex Riley. Oh, I really like Riley and probably the Brazilian crowd did too. He got a good pop, even if he is just appearing on NXT and Superstars. It was a okay match. David won with The Veridict.

3. Michael McGillicutty defeated Curt Hawkins. A weak reaction for both of them. Michael was playing the face role, but a section was really cheering Hawkins for my surprise. A lot of near falls, but Michael won with the Turning Heads neckbreaker.

4. Zack Ryder defeated The Miz. Miz got a good reaction because he came here to promote the live event. But then he cut a heel promo. He said he was going to talk with us "slowly" and then started to cut the promo in Portuguese. He called us "troxas", "otários" (that are all insulting words on portuguese) and he said "Eu sou foda" (that means "I am awesome" in Portuguese). Then Ryder entered with a good pop. And both of them started to impress by climbing the turnbuckles, but Miz attacked Ryder from behind. After avoiding the Rough Ryder, Miz tried the Skull Crushing Finale twice, but Ryder reversed and then hit his finisher for the win.

5. R-Truth and Kofi Kingston defeated Primo and Epico to retain the WWE Tag Team Titles. No Rosa Mendes, what a shame. Primo and Epico cut a heel promo and drew a good heat by telling us that Puerto Rico is better than Brazil. Then R-Truth entered doing his "What's Up" entrance with Lil' Jimmy and after that Kofi entered the ring with a good pop. Everyone got impressed by the high-flying moves of Kofi Kingston. A false title change occured when Epico pinned Kofi after a Backstabber, but Kofi's leg was on the ropes. They started to celebrate, but another referee came and then the match was re-started. Soon after that, Kofi hit Trouble In Paradise for the win.

Powell's Note: Rosa was in a car accident over the weekend, so perhaps she's still at home recovering.

Before intermission, Justin Roberts announced that they were selling John Cena photos with his autograph in the merchandising stand. He announced a 15-minutes break.

[Intermission]

6. Beth Phoenix defeated Kelly Kelly. Kelly's initial opponent was Rosa, but I thought they would bring another Diva except for Beth and Layla to wrestle here, so I got really surprised. Kelly is really hot live. Good reaction for both of them. Standard Divas match, but longer than usual. I thought Kelly was going to win when she reversed the Glam Slam to the deadly Roll-Up Of Doom, but she only got a near fall. After that, Beth tried again the Glam Slam and she connected for the win.

7. John Cena defeated Dolph Ziggler (w/ Mason Ryan). Ziggler entered first and then he cut a heel promo and brought Mason to accompany him. Everybody remembered Batista when he entered. Then John Cena entered with a monstrous pop and the "Let's Go Cena/Cena Sucks" chants. Ziggler started by avoiding Cena and then started to deliver a beatdown after distraction from Mason. Soon after, Ryan hit Cena and then the referee banned him from the ringside.

There was a huge Cena hater behind me. He tried to start some chants like "Same Old Shit", "You Suck" and "Fruity Pebbles." I was upset about the outcome of this match because Ziggler hit the sleeper hold, the Fameasser, and the Zig-Zag but didn't win. Also, Otunga with John Lauritaitis tried to interfere, but when Otunga tried to hit Cena with Big Johnny's crutch he took a AA. But then Ziggler hit Cena with the crutch only to have another near fall. In the end Ziggler accidentally hit John Laurinaitis with a beautiful superkick and then Cena connected the AA on him for the victory.

8. CM Punk defeated Chris Jericho to retain the WWE Championship. The highlight of the show, but for negative reasons. Some "Y2J" chants could be heard, but they stopped when Jericho cut a heel promo. But then Punk entered with a very good pop. Then someone give to both of them the Brazilian flag, but Jericho disrespected (?) the Brazilian flag by kicking it away. Punk hit some atomic drops in the beginning of the match and then started to making fun of Jericho.

Soon after Jericho hit Punk in the eyes and the match stopped. Then, Jericho apologized for kicking the flag and blah, blah, blah (it was really odd and affected the quality of the match, since nobody really understand why he apologized) . In the end, Jericho locked Punk in the Walls of Jericho but Punk got the ropes for the break. Frustrated, Jericho tried to hit Punk with a chair, but Punk avoided and hit the GTS for the win.

The show ended with Punk celebrating with the fans after his victory.

Other Thoughts

-Everybody in that arena knew that WWE is a entertaining show, so nobody got offended by what Chris did. At the moment that happened I thought it was an awesome way to draw some heat of the crowd. The government should know that he is just playing a character and this wasn't his personal opinion about Brazil. I was really shocked when I saw on the WWE website that Jericho was suspended. I'm very ashamed of my country and I hope that this incident doesn't make WWE stop to come here, because that was a really good show and I want to have another WWE experience on Brazil.

-I was really looking forward to buy a CM Punk t-shirt. I arrived one hour before the show and most of the t-shirts were sold out. In the end, I bought a Kofi t-shirt, but I was really disappointed.

-The media coverage was really weak here. I only saw two reporters on the arena.

Biggest Pops
1. John Cena
2. CM Punk
3. Zack Ryder

Biggest Heat
1. Chris Jericho
2. The Miz
3. Dolph Ziggler
