WWE Supershow house show
Rockford, Ill.

WWE held a Supershow in Rockford, Illinois on Friday evening. A virtual sellout (around 8,000) with only a few rows of one section empty. With only two matches advertised in advance - both of which never took place - I was surprised by the attendance.
Pre-Show Notes
Mark Henry and Tony Atlas arrived together. Big Show and John Cena each traveled alone. Meanwhile, Mickie James, Cody Rhodes, and Ted Dibiase arrived together in a limo. I thought they did a great job playing the gimmick until Mickie popped out of there.
Eve hosted the event. She selected a fan to be guest timekeeper and another was selected to accompany Cryme Tyme to the ring.
1. Evan Bourne defeated Chavo Guerrero (w/Bam Neely) in around 12 minutes with the Shooting Star Press. Solid match and solid reaction for Bourne. About three minutes in, Neely got a shot in on Bourne which led to Chavo working over his leg for an extended time. Eventually he made his comeback, got a few near falls off some of his creative offense, before ramming Chavo into Neely on the apron. Bourne then hit the finisher for the win.
2. Mickie James & Kelly Kelly defeated Beth Phoenix & Katie Lea Burchill with Special Referee Santino Marella. Santino cut a promo assuring he'd call the match right down the middle and not allow any of the monkey business to take place. All of the standard heel referee spots in this match, but they're much more entertaining when done by Santino. Especially the pre-match frisking.
Decent action within the match. Finish came when Mickie hit her spinning DDT on Katie Lea. Santino reluctantly counted to two before James pulled his arm down for the three. After the match, Beth shoved Santino and left the ring. He followed her all the way to back apologizing only to be ignored.
3. Shelton Benjamin pinned Jimmy Wang Yang to retain the U.S. Title. Basically a squash for Shelton. Yang made him look real strong though. Benjamin hit his finisher around 5-6 minutes.
4. Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes defeated Cryme Time (w/fan) to retain their belts in about 11 minutes. Rhodes & DiBiase drew good heat throughout the match. Cryme Tyme surprisingly had very little offense. JTG took the beating before the hot tag. Eventually all four ended up in the ring and a moment later DiBiase hit his Million Dollar Dream whatever it is finisher on Shad for the win.
5. Big Show pinned Carlito (w/cornrows) in four minutes. Squash. The highlight was Show hitting his open hand chop in the corner with Carlito spitting out his apple upon impact. Chokeslam followed shortly after.
Afterward Big Show walked around the entire ring signing autographs and taking pictures as the show headed to intermission. Classy, fun guy.
6. Mark Henry (w/Tony Atlas) pinned Finlay (w/Hornswoggle) to retain the ECW Title in seven minutes. Most of the focus was on the outside as Hornswoggle chased Atlas around with a water gun early on. Later, Atlas tossed little Horny in the ring. Henry threatened to splash Horny, but Finlay was able to save him. Not long after that Henry caught Finlay coming off the top rope and hit the World's Strongest Slam.
7. Batista pinned Kane in a no DQ match in nearly 23 minutes. Fans picked the no DQ stip with 73 percent over 2-out-of-3 falls and another option I didn't hear. Basic brawl to start. Lots of action around the ringside area involving posts, guardrails and steel steps. When Kane took over on offense the first time he worked over the left arm/shoulder. Batista rallied, but was unable to hit the Batista Bomb. They then knocked each other out with simultaneous boots to the face.
The story then became Kane's frustration with his inability to put Batista away. He used a sideslam, the ring post, the ring bell, the chokeslam, all for two counts. He left the ring to bring in a chair but before he could use hit it, Batista speared him to pick up the win.
A really highly entertaining match that had the crowd on the edge of their seats the whole way. The crowd appreciated their hard work afterward. Kane had a mixed response throughout after an average pop coming in.
8. John Cena and Triple H and CM Punk defeated JBL and William Regal and The Great Khali in around 20 minutes. Triple H was not advertised at any time for the show, so his entrance was well received. Cena's reaction was huge, and thanks to the high percentage of kids on hand, the boos were hardly audible. Punk's reaction was on level with Triple H, just a notch below Cena's. Rockford is about an hour west of Punk's hometown of Chicago. In fact, the crowd chanted for Punk to start the match but Triple H did the honors.
Huge heat for JBL. Regal didn't draw nearly as much as he was a few months ago. When Khali enters, people just stare at him. Amazing site in person. Extended heat segments on Cena and Punk before Triple H made the huge save at the end. The finish saw Cena hit an FU on JBL while Triple H pedigreed Regal for the pinfall. Khali had been clotheslined over the top by Triple H.
Afterward, he winners celebrated and posed. John Cena then bowed out and allowed the two champions the spotlight.
Overall a really fun show. Batista vs. Kane stood out on it's own, but the six-man main event was fun a mix. Evan Bourne impressed as well, as did Rhodes & Dibiase. Good shows for them.
An advertised Jeff Hardy vs. MVP match never took place. Nobody seemed to notice. William Regal replaced Umaga in the main event that was supposed to be a standard tag bout. The unadvertised Triple H and JBL were added to make it a 6-man.
Biggest Pops:
1) John Cena
2) Triple H/CM Punk
3) Batista
4) Big Show
5) Cryme Tyme/Evan Bourne
BIggest Heat:
1) JBL
2) Rhodes & Dibiase
3) Santino
4) Chavo Guerrero
5) William Regal
