4/18 WWE Smackdown in Sheffield, England: Randy Orton vs. Kane in a no disqualification match and Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus for the World Heavyweight Championship
Apr 19, 2012 - 11:28 AM

Dot Net reader Kirk MacDougall attended to WWE Smackdown house show in Sheffield, England and sent along the following report:

The Great Khali defeated Jinder Mahal. I'd never seen Khali live before, His size was impressive in person however the fact he can do little more than walk and wave his arms around was also more noticeable in person than it is on TV. Khali won with the Punjabi Plunge. The match was basically chops, slaps and pushes from Khali while Mahal's offense consisted of mostly rest holds.

The Uso’s and Percy Watson defeated Drew Mcintyre, Tyler Rekks and Curt Hawkins. Good little tag match. The Uso's got the win with the Alley-Use followed by the Samoan Splash.

Alberto Del Rio (w/ Ricardo) defeated Mason Ryan. Very quick match, basically a squash. Del Rio won via submission with the cross arm breaker.

Alicia Fox defeated Natalya with Aksana as special guest referee. Quick little match that ended when Natalya put fox in the Sharpshooter. Fox crawled to the ropes so Natalya released and argued with Aksana, Fox then got the pin with a roll up from behind.

Brodus Clay and Booker T defeated Mark Henry and Christian. Henry came out followed by Christian who I wasn't expecting to see. Brodus was next. He came out to a good pop but then stopped on the ramp and told Newcastle to hold up (this didn't go down well as this wasn't Newcastle) as his little brother is coming out to join him. Out came Hornswoggle dressed in matching attire.

Next out was Booker T who got a huge pop. I think a lot of this was because people really didn't expect to see him. This was an OK match. The work was left to Booker, Christian, and Henry. Brodus was involved a little at the beginning with Christian. This was basically a pose off with a few powerful pushes from Brodus before Christian tagged in Henry. Henry and Brodus had a little test of strength and then Brodus tagged in Booker. Brodus had very little involvement until the end when he came in and did his usual suplex, headbutt and splash combo to get the pin on Christian.

Post-match we got some dancing and spinneroni's from Brodus, Hornswoggle, and Booker. I hoped that at a house show in a tag match involving three former world champions we would see Brodus get a little more involved in the match. He showed when he was on NXT and when he was working with Del Rio that he can do more than the few moves he displays every week.

Big Show defeated Cody Rhodes. A good match. Cody cut a promo at the start about how he wasn't afraid of Big Show and that he has nothing to lose now that he doesn't have his title any longer. Show came out and the first few minutes consisted of Cody running away and then the match got underway. Cody got some good offense in during the middle before Show came back and won with a chokeslam.

Randy Orton defeated Kane in a no disqualification match. This was a good match, ended the same as the previous house shows with an RKO onto a chair.

Sheamus defeated Daniel Bryan to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. A good back and forth match about a 50/50 reaction for Bryan with Yes Chants and No chants. Bryan informed Sheamus that Johnny has said that if Sheamus lays his hands on the referee he is fired. Sheamus won with the Brogue kick.

The arena was around 70% full, a lot less than the 2 times I've been previously for Raw shows.
