12/10 WWE SuperShow in North Charleston, S.C. results: New look for Air Boom, C.M. Punk vs. John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio for the WWE Championship, Dolph Ziggler, Cody Rhodes, and Beth Phoenix title defenses
Dec 12, 2011 - 11:38 AM

WWE SuperShow live event
North Charleston SC at the North Charleston Coliseum
Report by Dot Net reader Henry Thompson II

The ring announcer was Eden Stiles. While a part of me was hoping to see Lilian, Eden did a great job of announcing the matches and keeping the crowd hyped up.

1. Air Boom defeated Michael McGillicuty and David Otunga to retain the WWE Tag Titles. Bourne hit the Air Bourne (Shooting Star Press) on Otunga for the win. Bourne played ‘face in peril’ for the whole match until Kofi got the tag and cleaned house. Crowd was happy to see Evan Bourne, but Kofi got more love from the crowd. Air Boom wore matching camouflage attire.

While Eden announced the next match, someone with a black security shirt came down our aisle trailed by a John Cena lookalike who sat ringside with a fan. Because the arena was dark, many of us assumed it was John Cena, and parents and kids flocked over to him in droves for a picture.

2. Justin Gabriel beat Heath Slater. Gabriel won with what looked like an STO/Rock Bottom combo. Good match between the two. This match was a good reason why the WWE should reinstate the Cruiserweight division and title.

3. Alex Riley beat Dolph Ziggler by DQ in a U.S. Title match. The DQ came when Jack Swagger ran in and interfered and put Riley in the ankle lock. Before the match, Dolph came to ringside solo (no Vickie) and cut a really good heel promo, and did a great job on the mic. Vickie Guerrero was not at the show.

During the post-match beatdown, Mason Ryan came and made the save. Riley then got on the match and challenged Swagger and Ziggler to a tag-team match, which they accepted.

4. Mason Ryan and Alex Riley beat Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger. Statements from my section during this match included "I didn't know that Bobby Lashley had a white brother!" and "Hey kids! It’s Batista!"

5. Randy Orton beat Wade Barrett in a Street Fight. Orton won with the RKO. Barrett came out first and cut a promo saying that he was a British Street Fighter and could beat any man in the audience. He then turned to an older gentleman, and said "I'll f--- you up too, old man!" Good basic street fight which saw each guy hit their signature moves, and also featured a kendo stick and a steel chair. The only head shot was with the Kendo Stick. Again, Barrett’s promo almost caused a riot in the Coliseum.

Intermission

6. Beth Phoenix (w/Natalya) beat Eve to retain the WWE Divas Title. Beth won with a Glam Slam I like the fact that not all of the divas look like string beans. Nattie and Beth both look strong, yet are still feminine. Eve and Beth told a good story, and had a lot more time here than the Divas get on television. Fans weren't really into this one until Beth hit the Glam Slam for the win, which got a huge pop. I'm really disappointed with the how the WWE treats the Divas division. These women can go but don’t get the time to show what they can really do.

7. Cody Rhodes beat Ted DiBiase to retain the Intercontinental Title. Cody won with with the CrossRhodes. During the intros, Cody cut a good heel promo on the mic. Cody did a good job talking up the importance and significance of the IC title, calling it the greatest treasure in the world. Ted came out and cut a promo calling the U.S. Military the greatest prize in the world, which led to a "USA" chant from the crowd. Another crowd favorite match with these two, and another crowd favorite match.

8. C.M. Punk beat Alberto Del Rio and John Cena in a Triple Threat to retain the WWE Championship. Ricardo Rodriguez came out to massive heat. ADR came out to boos and some cheers. He did a great job of playing to the crowd, though. He didn’t get to cut a promo on the mic, but his body language was excellent. John Cena came from the back second to a massive pop (and some anger at the parents and kids who took pictures with the Cena impersonator). CM Punk came out last to a good pop, but not as good as Cena’s. Charleston, SC is definitely Cena Country.

Prior to the match, Punk, Cena and Charles ‘Lil Naitch’ Robinson played a game of keep away with Del Rio's scarf before tossing it to the crowd. The finish came with Del Rio taking the GTS while Ricardo Rodriguez kept Cena outside of the ring. Del Rio ran off to the back after the match, and left Rodriguez alone to take a GTS from Punk and then walk right into the AA from Cena. Punk and Cena shook hands and then posed for the crowd to end the show.

Notes and Observations: All in all, it was a fun show. On a side note, I wore my Eddie Guerrero shirt, and ended up getting a lot of love from the crowd.

The talent did a great job of telling stories with their matches. It was cool to see the matches sans commentary, as it made you pay attention to what was going on in the ring.

Tonight was definitely a ‘Heels on Parade’ night, as Ziggler, Barrett, and Rhodes all cut promos on the mic. The best heel promo was from Wade Barrett, who actually had people ready to jump the rails and borders to beat him up.

For all of the title matches except the WWE Title match, the champions came out first, then the challengers.

Biggest Pops:
1. Cena and Randy Orton (tie)
2. CM Punk
3. Eve

Biggest Heat:
1. Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes (tie)
2. Dolph Ziggler
3. Otunga and McGillicutty
