WWE house show
Vienna, Austria
Report by Dot Net reader Michael Hell
My brother and I arrived roughly 90 minutes before the show started and there was already a huge queue of people there, lots of children. Apparently John Cena's merch sold like crazy, as there was a swam of orange t-shirts. As usual, we got in the building pretty smooth and were all pumped to see some live action finally. I didn't expect much, cause i was rather disappointed by last year's house show, but was still looking forward to see some of the guys I never saw before.
We we're seated in the middle rows, so we had a very good look at the ring. Apparently TNA is not too famous here in Austria, as there were some kids with Jeff Hardy signs and we also saw the Hulk Hogan impersonator from last Year. That guy is fun to watch and looks exactly like Hulk, only smaller and not as jacked up as the original.
Anyways, things kicked off and Justin Roberts shortly welcomed us to the show.
1. Mark Henry pinned Chavo Guerrero. Basic Match with Chavo playing his heel character. Mark Henry looks massive, but him playing a face is something that just isn't right. I wanna see him as badass heel again, sooner than later. Henry finished Chavo off with the Worlds Strongest Slam. Basic match and Henry was pretty over with the crowd.
Referee Mike Chioda set up a Chair in the Middle of the Ring, and just when I thought "Masterlock Challenge?", Chris Masters' music hit. I almost forgot about Masters to be honest, but that guy looks like a monster in person. He issued a Masterlock Challenge to anyone in the Back and William Regal's Music hit. Welcome to Austria, Mr. Regal, pleasure to have you here. Regal drew some cheap Heat with ripping us Austrians and challenged Masters to an actual wrestling match, which he accepted.
2. Chris Masters defeated William Regal via Submission. Basic Match of those two. I normally love Cruiserweight/X-Division/Highflyer-wrestling, but Regal's brutal, stiff wrestling is nice to watch sometimes. A few beautiful suplexes and uppercuts later, Masters applied the Masterlock, to which Regal tapped out. Regal looked pissed after the match and told us he'd "never come back to this filthy hole again" (if i understood that right), which drew some more heat.
Mexican music was played and out came Dos Caras jr. to absolute silence. To be honest, not even I knew who he was, but he quickly made clear that he's no nice guy and played to the crowd in Spanish, which drew some good heat. He also pinned the obligatory "I'm in Australia" Line, something i heard every Year so far. Christian came out to a HUGE pop..
3. Christian pinned Dos Caras jr. after the Killswitch. Fun Match and both worked hard. Christian did the "Boo-Yeah" bit and even involved the ref, which was fun and got the crowd going. One of the better matches of the night and, yes, I want to see Dos Caras Jr. on television, please. This guy had some nice moves during his match, which made me want to see more!
4. Maryse defeated Kelly Kelly and Eve Torres in a Triple Threat. I pretty much agree with the opinion of the Dot Net guys here, the women's division is dead and so was the crowd. Kelly Kelly Kelly (I was hoping for Santino at that point) is super hot and I'm not even into blondes. Yes, there was some wrestling too and it was sloppy with each Diva botching a move or two. Speaking of Santino, isn't it a tragedy that the only thing you hope while the Divas have a match is a Santino appearance to save the whole thing?!?
Legacy came out to some good heat and I was barely remembering that Ted Dibiase is now wearing his father's Million Dollar Title belt. He cut a basic promo about how much better he was than the Rest of us, until Cody Rhodes took the belt away from him and told him to not be too proud of himself. I definitely like the tension between these two, and it was great to see that continue on the house shows as well. The jets were starting and Evan Bourne came out, which was the first time I really got excited. His tag team partner was Kofi Kingston, who was definitely over.
5. Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne defeated Legacy after Trouble in Paradise. Good tag team match with Legacy working well together. As usual, the beat the crap out of Evan Bourne, with only little offense for himself. I was disappointed a lot when Evan set up for the Shooting Star Press (who the hell gives all those moves stupid names?), but jumped over Rhodes and hit the Double Knee Dive on Dibiase instead. Kingston hit Trouble in Paradise shortly after to end the match.
Justin Roberts made some announcements regarding upcoming events in Graz (Austria) and presented the new Wrestlemania Revenge Tour t-shirt, when Hornswoggle's music hit. Dammit, I was hoping that they forgot him somewhere in the luggage. He brought two kids into the ring and a third one (which i think was accidental) and made them do stupid jumping moves. Two kids got a Shirt, the third was one being sent home empty-handed, but with the awesome experience of acting like an Idiot in front of roughly 14,000 people.
After a short Intermission, we were greeted with a big "AAAWWWEEEESOMEEEE" and Miz made his entrance with all the gold on him. He once again proved that he is the future of the WWE with a hilarious promo and even talked a few sentences in German (which he learned in just one according to his Twitter page). MVP came out next.
6. The Miz pinned MVP (illegally) to retain the U.S. Title. Very good match and you could see their chemistry. The crowd was on their feet for the ballin' elbow, but Miz pinned MVP a short time later with his feet on the ropes. It's amazing to see how great the Miz has improved over the years and tonight was no different. Miz should be in the main event soon, because he simply deserves it.
The Big Show came out to some mixed reaction, followed by the legend-killing Viper, Randy Orton, who got a nice pop.
7. Randy Orton defeated Big Show after the RKO. Big Show is Big Show and not even Randy Orton could make me excited about that match. However, the DDT with Show's feet on the ropes was impressive. I got a fantastic shot of both, a choke slam on Orton and the RKO, which ended the match and good a good pop out of the crowd. I absolutely love Orton's tweener character, but I was up too high in the ranks to see his facial expressions. Orton got great reactions throughout the match with a lot of RKO chants.
Justin Roberts thanked us all for coming, promised to come back soon and announced the main event. Green Light was appearing at the Stage and I believe the whole Stadthalle had the same reaction than I had: "Finally Triple H! What, what? Sheamus??" Triple H was advertised to be in the main event against John Cena, but did not show up. My mood was dragging along when i watched Sheamus enter the ring.
I don't have anything against Sheamus, in fact i like the guy, but when you advertise guys like Triple H and then don't have him on the show, you have fucked up and I heard LOTS of disappointed talk after the show. My prediction to my brother became true when I said, "Watch out, its going to be loud now." Cena's music played and the crowd exploded. Biggest Pop of the Night. Period.
8. John Cena defeated Sheamus to retain the WWE Championship. Some small "Cena sucks" chants broke out, but as Patrick Gronemann said in his report earlier today, it was quickly cut off by Cena chants (with a higher Voice Pitch of course). Basic Cena match, which saw Sheamus dominate most of it, and Cena made a Superman comeback. After Cena hit the FU (up yours, Attitude Adjustment) he pinned Sheamus for the 1-2-3.
Cena took the Mic after the match and told us that he was hurt by Batista at Wrestlemania 26 and could barely sleep or stand up from a chair, but performing in front of "each and everyone of us" would make him feel magical and that he takes Pride in wearing the WWE Belt. Gosh, he's just too much. Gotta hand it to him, though, cause Cena really knows how to connect with the crowd. There was a very small "Quit" chant when he announced that he was injured and he immediately replied "then who would you boo if I'm not here anymore." That caught even me off guard.
Notes: I could have done without the Divas and Big Show Match, but Christian vs. Dos Caras Jr. and the tag team match between Legacy and Kofi and Bourne saved the evening for me. It was a fun night and we'll be back next year.
Biggest Pop:
John Cena
Randy Orton
Christian
Biggest Heat:
The Miz
