12/4 Hermanstyne's WWE Smackdown Live Coverage: R-Truth vs. C.M. Punk, Mickie James, Natalya and Beth Phoenix in a triple threat match for number one contendership, JeriShow vs. Cryme Tyme
Dec 4, 2009 - 07:00 PM

WWE Friday Night Smackdown on MyNetworkTV
Taped in Hampton, VA

[Q1] The show started with the main event from last week, Jericho vs. Taker and the opening montage was shown. We were welcomes to Smackdown and the announcers hyped that Taker called out Batista later tonight. Punk and Gallows made their entrance to an abundance of heat. Video was shown of the Truth and Punk feud and the beating Punk and Gallows gave Matt Hardy from last week. Truth made has lame ass entrance as usual.

1. R-Truth defeated C.M. Punk (w/ Luke Gallows) by DQ in 10:00. Truth started the match by dancing like an tool then got a couple of shots in. Punk took control in the corner and said no one disrespects him. Truth did his orthodox offense to Punk and got a near fall pin. Truth worked on Punk’s arm and Punk countered with kicks to Truth’s back. Punk headbutted Truth and tried to slam Truth but Truth countered out. Punk hit an elbow and threw Truth into the ringpost. [C]

The show returned with Punk working on Truth’s arm with an armbar submission. Punk applied a double arm slam for a near fall. Punk continued to work on Truth’s arm and Truth came back with strikes. Punk countered and went for an rollup for a nearfall. Punk applied an key lock submission to Truth’s arm.

[Q2] Punk said he can save everybody and Truth hit some instant offense. Truth hit an hiptoss and went for an move, but Gallows pulled Truth’s leg and got DQ’ed. Gallows and Punk went on to beat on Truth. [C]

Mind of Marv: I like this pair here as Punk gets the heat he needs (but is stuck in the mid-card) and Gallows is a bad ass heel he needed a repackaging to freshen his character. Overall, the match was boring because it was too many holds for me to care.

2. Kane defeated Mike Knox in 3:35.Kane dominated the first thirty seconds of this match and Knox took over in the corner. Knox hit an crossbody on Kane for a nearfall. Knox grabbed the advantage around the 1:10 mark and speared Kane in the corner. Knox hit an splash on Kane for a nearfall. Knox applied an bearhug to Kane. Kane hit an big boot to Knox and hit an clothesline. Kane hit an side slam to Knox and hit a clothesline of the top rope. Kane went for a chokeslam but Knox countered out. Knox went for a strike with his boot but Kane countered with a choke slam for a quick win.

Mind of Marv: This match did nothing for me. Knox has so much potential, yet he is wasted on this show.

[Q3] Josh Matthews interviewed JeriShow and he asked Jericho how will facing DX on Raw this Monday affect him. Jericho basically said how DX will end and how an TLC match will be to the crowd. Jericho described while Show was being the sign language interpreter. They said DX will be in a coma and described how tables, ladders and chairs will affect them. He talked about destroying HBK and became the king of ladder matches. He said the TLC hurts people, ends careers and he’s been victorious in a TLC. He said he know what it takes and DX will be finished after TLC. Show looked at his hands and made a fist and faked punched the camera.

Mind of Marv: Good promo by Jericho. Too bad he will get squashed by DX on Monday which will suck, but this should be a sleeper match at TLC. I can see DX getting the titles because Show needs surgery and Jericho needs a program so he can be in the world title picture again.

Layla and Michelle “AJ Styles Poser” McCool were ringside wearing “Piggie James” shirts.

3. Mickie James beat Beth Phoenix and Natalya in a Triple Threat match to become #1 contender for the women’s championship in 7:00.The women exchanged blows and Beth tossed Mickie outside of the ring. Nattie and Beth locked up and showed the power amongst each other. Mickie got tossed out by Beth again. [C]

Mind of Marv: This is a dream women’s matchup and it feels like a throwaway, ugh…

[Q4] The show returned with Nattie working on Mickie. Nattie applied a sleeper to Mickie but Beth interfered. Nattie knocked her out. Mickie hit a neckbreaker on Nattie for a nearfall. Mickie hit a low drop kick to Nattie and nattie countered with a clothesline. Nattie went for Sharpshooter, but Beth countered with a Glam Slam to Nattie. Mickie hit a drop kick to Beth and covered Nattie to win the match.

Matthews interviewed Mickie and asked how she is feeling about being the new #1 contender. She said that she has her sight set and she is on top of the world. She said McCool went beyond personal and walked toward McCool and talked some shit. Mickie pushed McCool and beat on Layla. Layla and McCool beat on Mickie until Maria came out for the save. Maria and Mickie chased off the heels.

Mind of Marv: Watch next week these women face each other in a tag team match…predictable ass WWE, ugh. But as I predicted, throwaway match in the first hour main event slot. WWE does not know how money this match could be between these veterans yet they treat it like the garbage on Raw.

Backstage, Long asked he doesn’t know what the problem is. Batista said he shouldn’t be in the same room as him. Long said Batista will face Mysterio in a street fight. He said as long as his harmless agreement stands, he will beat him up again. Batista started calling Long last week and Long said his hands are tied. Meanwhile, Matt Hardy was playing SVR 2010 on X-Box and Morrison walked in. He said the only thing is great about beating Drew McIntyre in virtual reality, is beating him in real life…which he is gonna do, next…[C]

4. Drew McIntyre defeated Intercontinental Champion John Morrison in a non-title match in 13:10. Drew said that the IC championship has went straight to Morrison’s head and he hurts people. Morrison hit Drew in the jaw and Drew was livid. Morrison hit a leg sweep and a standing shooting star press for a nearfall. Drew got on the advantage with some elbow and a elbow to the abdomen to Morrison.

[Q5] Morrison hit a Pele Kick to Drew for a nearfall. Both men land outside of the ring and Drew tossed Morrison back in the ring for a cover for an nearfall. Drew applied an armbar and stomped Morrison. Drew applied an half Cobra clutch to Morrison. Morrison went for the top rope, but Drew countered and knocked him off. [C]

The show returned with Drew hitting a nasty clothesline for multiple nearfalls. Drew hit two headbutts and applied an submission. Morrison kicked out of the submission but Drew countered briefly. Morrison started to fight back and hit a shoulder block and a kick for a nearfall. Morrison hit an running knee for a nearfall. Morrison went for the Chuck Kick, but Drew kicked him in the leg to knock him off. Drew hit a spinning backbreaker for a nearfall. Morrison knocked drew and went for Starship Pain, but Drew moved. Morrison hit the Chuck Kick and Drew crawled under the ring and knocked Morrison’s head off the steel under the ring.

Drew hit his stroke DDT to beat Morrison…[C]

Mind of Marv: Good match and I can finally start to buy McIntyre. If they are pushing him like they are Sheamus, Morrison maybe dropping this belt sooner than you think. Overall, this was not that bad of a matchup.

[Q6] Vickie Guerrero came to the ring and footage was shown of the breakup between her and Escobar from last week. She did her “Excuse me” thing and got the real heat not the pumped out heat. She said last week, she was humiliated by Escobar and he had to make her look bad. She said that he will make him face the consequences. She said that Escobar should come out and apologize and worry if he will have a job tomorrow. As usual, he comes out to no heat whatsoever. Escobar said, you want him to apologize to her. He apologizes to her and said that he is sorry that they met. He said he is sorry to waste his time with her and he is sorry to see her wear her negligee. Vickie said he could fire him and end his career, but that’s too easy. She said that Escobar will face the Harts in a handicap match and the match is now.

5. The Hart Dynasty pinned Eric Escobar in a handicap match in 2:22.Escobar attacked the Harts and started the match with Kidd. Escobar hit an standing dropkick to Kidd and hit a punched. Kidd tagged DH Smith and he started to destroy Escobar. Escobar hit an modified Sky High for a nearfall. DH continued to beat on Escobar and the Harts hit the Hart Attack to finish off Escobar.

Vickie got in the ring and smiled. DH held Escobar and Vickie chastised him. Vickie slapped the hell out of him and DH got his bitch slap in also.

Mind of Marv: Future endeavors, for Eric Escobar? Looks like it…and can Vickie manage the Harts?? This can be a nice move if they decided to go that road, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for it.

[Q7] Backstage, Punk and Gallows were interviewed and Gallows said that his previous existence wasn’t his fault. He said that the people he care for, they were no better than a street pusher. He said he looked like a moron and it was prescribed by a prescription. He thanked Punk and Punk commended him for recovering.

He said that he listen to him and Gallows said he was lost and found. He said he praised him for telling the lost souls about the straightedge lifestyle.

Mind of Marv: Worthless segment. Punk looks like he may be a cult leader and something tells me that they may get more people in some kind of straightedge stable. I don’t know, just an idea…

The announcers run down the TLC card. Cryme Tyme faces JeriShow in the main event, next…[C]

Shad finally and Marv means, finally cut those nappy ass braids off and JeriShow came out to some good heat.

[Q8] 6. WWE Unified Tag Champions Chris Jericho and Big Show defeated Cryme Tyme in 3:18. JTG and Jericho started the match. JTG went for the quick pin for a nearfall. Jericho went to the announcer’s table and Striker offered water and JTG kicked Jericho and hit a legdrop for a nearfall. Jerihco got the advantage with a fallaway slam and stood on his neck while using the ropes. Jericho hit a low dropkick to JTG’s head. JTG countered and both men crawled to their partners and tagged in. Show punched the H-E-L-L out of Shad to end the match.

Mind of Marv: To quote Chris Tucker from Friday…”Damn you got the knocked the HELL out.” This obviously was a throwaway main event which left you saying Damn (like Ron Simmons) after seeing Shad get clobbed like that.

Video was shown from last week when Batista beat the hell out of Taker. Taker walked the ring to confront Batista and Batista came out from the side and beat the hell out of him with the chair. Dave threw him into the chair and smacked him with the chair multiple times. Dave grabbed the world title, dropped it spine busted Taker into the chair. He stood above Taker with the world title. He then took the world title and smacked him with it. He held the title and chair to close the show.

Mind of Marv: Weak and predictable ending. Overall, this show was a tad above average and gets a B- from me.

Chris Shore will have the Smackdown Hitlist available in the morning and I’m shutting down the pick-ems until the playoffs.

My Bears are done as far as contention for the season, and for the first time since I played fantasy football in 2002, I will NOT make the playoffs. I missed it by a game and never thought I would struggle like this and I went undefeated in the regular season last year and won 3 leagues.
