11/19 Shore's WWE Superstars Live Coverage: Shelton Benjamin vs. Zack Ryder, Eric Escobar (w/Vickie Guerrero) vs. Jimmy Wang Yang, and Mark Henry vs. Cody Rhodes
Nov 19, 2009 - 07:00 PM |
Superstars on WGN America
Taped in New York, N.Y. and Philadelphia, Pa.
[Q1]The opening video aired, followed by the pyro, and Josh Matthews and Byron Saxton welcomed us to Superstars. ECW was up first and Shelton Benjamin made his ring entrance. A video showed his altercation with Ryder and Rosa Tuesday night. Dammit…Zack Ryder made his ring entrance with his tool girlfriend…
1. Zack Ryder (w/Rosa Mendes) defeated Shelton Benjamin at 9:43. Ryder went to the floor immediately. Benjamin helped him in with a hip toss over the rope and then a couple of short arm clotheslines and a snap suplex for one. Ryder fought back, but Benjamin reversed a suplex into a neckbreaker and locked in a chin lock. Ryder fought out, but Benjamin hit a Samoan drop for two and went back to a rest hold. Ryder made the ropes and got a cheap shot in on the break.
Benjamin fought back and set up for a power bomb. Ryder reversed into a backdrop over the rope. Benjamin skinned the cat and tossed Ryder over the top. He baseball slid out of the ring and Ryder pushed him back into the stairs. Both men recovered into the break.
Back at 6:30, Ryder choked Benjamin on the ropes. He yanked back on the rope and covered for two. He locked in a rest hold that worked the back. Benjamin fought out, but Ryder hit a running knee to the gut for two and went back to a rest hold. Benjamin fought out again and hit a flying forearm from the top. He whipped Ryder to the corner and hit a Stinger Splash. He missed a clothesline and they hit cross bodies on each other.
Rosa got in the ring with a cell phone that was ringing. She was trying to give it to Ryder and he backed her into the corner, telling her to ring. She screamed and Ryder moved. Benjamin was in the air and caught himself on the second rope. Ryder pulled him backwards to the mat and covered for the win. Post match, a video recapped the end and Ryder and Rosa celebrated on the ramp…
[Q2]The Ask the Divas segment aired…Backstage, Legacy was shown talking. The announce team hyped the main event…[C]
Shore’s Slant: I hate this storyline because of the people in it, but that was a good match that did a good job of continuing the crappy storyline. Rosa getting in the ring so Ryder could answer the phone is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. These guys are fun to watch in the ring, but it ends at the bell.
Back from commercial, Todd Grisham and Matt Striker took over on commentary. They hyped the Batista/Mysterio match at Survivor Series and set up a video recapping the feud…Back ringside, Vickie Guerrero was introduced and she “Excuse me” her way back to her superheat. She introduced Escobar and they made their ring entrance. Jimmy Wang Yang was out next…
1. Eric Escobar (w/Vickie Guerrero) defeated Jimmy Wang Yang at 2:45. Escobar tried for a hip toss, but Yang flipped through and hit a couple of kicks. Escobar shoved him into the corner and worked strikes. He slammed Yang for two and locked in a Dragon Sleeper. Yang tried to fight out and Escobar hit a clothesline for two. He worked Yang in the corner and the ref forced a break. Yang hit an elbow and a missile drop kick for two.
Yang went on the offense and hit a weak kick in the corner for two. He whipped Escobar to the other corner and ran in. He climbed up and Escobar rolled to the floor. Yang went to the apron and Vickie begged him to stop. Escobar swept the legs on the distraction and rolled Yang into the ring. He hit a running kick for the win. Post match, Escobar and Vickie made out in the ring…The announce team hyped the main event…[C]
Shore’s Slant: Short, sloppy match that did nothing for Escobar. Remember, Yang was buried by McIntyre the last time we saw him. Escobar is real rough around the edges. He may be on borrowed time if he doesn’t clean it up soon. And enough with the kissing of Vickie. Dear God.
[Q3]Back from commercial, a Drew McIntyre hype video aired…Michael Cole “Sore” and Jerry “The King” Lawler took over on commentary and set-up the MSG/Raw recap video…The announce team ran down the Survivor Series card…Cody Rhodes made his ring entrance sans DiBiase. It was so hot seeing the old school entrance. His match with Henry is next…[C]
[Q4]Back from commercial, a video recapped the DiBiase/MVP match from last week. Mark Henry made his ring entrance, also without his partner…
3. Mark Henry defeated Cody Rhodes at 11:08. Rhodes ducked a lock up and hit Henry. Henry no sold and went after Rhodes. Rhodes fell backward and crawled to the rope. He tried to kick Henry, but Henry caught the foot and tossed Rhodes away.
Henry told Rhodes to hit him and he did. Henry no sold again and gorilla pressed Rhodes. Rhodes poked the eyes and tried to attack. Henry hit a shoulder tackle. Rhodes kicked him and went to the top, but Henry tossed Rhodes off. He hit a big clothesline and Rhodes rolled ot the floor. He recovered into the break…[C]
Back at 6:54, Henry hit a big boot on Rhodes. Rhodes went back to the floor. Henry followed and Rhodes kicked the stairs into Henry’s leg. Henry fought back and roled Rhodes into the ring. He climbed up on the apron and started to get in the ring. Rhodes hit a low block and Henry fell on Rhodes. Ouch.
Rhodes went to work on the leg with stomps and rest holds. Rhodes did a DDT on the foot for two. That was kind of neat. Rhodes locked in a reverse toe hold.Henry kicked Rhodes away and went to work. He hit a high back body drop that popped the crowd. He tried for a lift and his knee gave. Cody charged in and Henry clotheslined him. Henry picked Rhodes up from the mat, his leg held, and he hit the World’s Strongest Slam for the win. A video recapped the action and Henry celebrated in the ring to end the show…
Shore’s Slant: A typical match with a big and small man in it, except it went too long. This match needed to be about four minutes shorter. Cody had no offense except for the leg and Henry tossed him around like a rag doll. Rhodes looks even weaker coming our of this and I didn’t think that was possible. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you tomorrow for Smackdown and the go home show for Survivor Series.
