11/13 Hermanstyne's WWE Smackdown Live Coverage: C.M. Punk vs. R-Truth, Natalya vs. Mickie James, John Morrison vs. Dolph Ziggler for the IC title, Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho for the first time ever
Nov 13, 2009 - 07:00 PM

WWE Friday Night Smackdown on MyNetworkTV
Taped in Sheffield, England

[Q1] The opening montage started the show and Grisham welcomed us to SD from the UK. The main event in Taker vs. Jericho for the first time. Mysterio and Batista has a contract signing for Survivor Series. Morrison and Ziggler wrestles for the IC title tonight.

Punk came out and got a chorus of heel heat from our English Brethren. Video of Punk and Truth was shown from last week which Armstrong screwed Punk. Punk had a microphone and he cut a promo. He said look at what’s become the mighty UK/. He said the land used to have Kings and nobleman now they are just as sad and pathetic as Americans. He started the whole straightedge promo with the crowd.

He asked if they think they are better than him. He puts himself over and said he doesn’t need a crocked official like Armstrong and he will beat up everyone in the back and everyone in the arena. He said Truth will ask him what’s up and Punk said he will say straightedge. He ripped the crowd some more and Truth came up with his weak ass entrance which got no heat whatsoever.

Mind of Marv: Good promo by Punk but he can tweak it a bit to make it fresh.

Truth said Punk can file a complaint if he want to but he wants to file a complaint against Punk. He said he didn’t come out to make him bad because he did it because he is doing it himself. He came out to do it and they pay their own money for action not to see Punk preach. Truth called Punk a Punk and said the truth is that he is telling everyone what they should do so he can take example. He said that truth will hurt tonight.

1. CM Punk defeated R-Truth in 9:15.The match started with Truth taking the advantage in the beginning with Truth tossing Punk outside of the ring. [C]

[Q2] The match returned with Punk working on Truth in the corner. Punk kicked Truth in the knee to knock him off the ring. Punk placed Truth in a submission and worked on the injured knee of Truth. Striker focused on Punk’s chest hair….AWKWARD….

Punk hit a drop toehold on Truth and continued to work on Truth’s knee. Punk applied a modified cross face on Truth. Truth punched out of the submission and countered on Punk. Truth came back with punches to Punk for a nearfall. Truth missed he scissor kick and Punk countered with a GTS attempt and Truth tried to get out of it, but Punk held the ropes for the cheap win.

Mind of Marv: OK match but the crowd was on their hands. It wasn’t enough spots to warrant any highlights of the match. This is a good mid-card feud but its sad that Punk took the demotion...

The announcers hyped the Rey Mysterio DVD and they hyped the contract signing for later tonight. Backstage, Mickie was walking to the ring and Layla told her to go away. Mickie called her scary Spice and Mickie punked Layla out…[C]

Mind of Marv: I don’t mind the 20 second filler because I like both Divas…

2. Natalya beat Mickie James via submission in 3:50. Nattie talked shit to Mickie to start the match, but Mickie took the advantage with a low drop kick to Nattie. Nattie took the advantage by pushing Mickie in to the ring steps for a nearfall. Nattie applied an submission to Mickie and worked on her in the corner. Mickie came back with some offense but Nattie got her in the corner. Mickie hit some instant offense to Nattie but Nattie threw her out and Mickie countered by jumping on Nattie.

Michelle McCool and Layla came out and started to clip Mickie’s clothes which distracted her and Nattie applied the Sharpshooter to get the submission victory.

Mind of Marv: The crowd could not give a damn about this match, but I would like to see this match again because they could put on quality 7-10 minute match. Finally they have emphasis on a women’s match, but the storyline with the Divas wanting Mickie gone is kind of stupid.

They hyped WM26 and the IC title match is later tonight…[C]

[Q3] Josh Matthews interviewed John Morrison. Morrison said he has pressure, butterflies on their stomach and he is human. He started to rip Ziggler about him being pressured and started to rant about Ricky Hatton and the Beatles and said he will still be the IC champ when it’s said and done.

Video was shown of McIntyre beating the hell out of Finlay 2 weeks ago. They hyped he Team Miz vs. Team Morrison Survivor Series Elimination match.

Drew said he didn’t leave Finlay in the ring because he wasn’t worthy. He head that Finlay loves to fight. He has a change of heart and he is making a statement because wants to know if he (Finlay) will fight him. [C]

[Q4] 3. Finlay and Drew McIntyre ended via double disqualification in 2:15. Finlay got the advantage early in the matchup. Drew kicked him out of the ring and beat on him outside of the ring. Drew applied a submission but Finlay beat on him outside of the ring and threw him in the security railing. They then exchanged blows until Drew hit a big boot to Finlay. Drew beat the hell out of Finlay and whacked him with the shelleigh. Drew walked off and got the shelleigh and whacked him dead in the ribs.

Mind of Marv: Drew McIntyre is really boring the shit out of me. I can’t buy him as a future world champion for numerous reasons. I can literally have a roundtable discussion about why he isn’t shit to the SD brand.

The announcers hyped the contract signing between Rey and Batista. Officials attended to Finlay and helped him out of the ring. Video was shown of the beat down.

[Q5] Matt Striker said sign the documents and make the match official. Dave tried to be friendly, but Rey demanded to know where to sign to make if official. Both men signed the contract and Dave said he has something else here. Dave said he has a hold harmless agreement which means that no one can sue him for what he does at Survivor Series. Rey looked over it and said he is not signing it. Dave demanded Rey to sign it and he said he is exactly what he is, a coward. He said he will sign this or he will embarrass him and beat the hell out of him.

Rey looked at Dave and the contract and said he will signed him. He said he is trying to bully him around and he will be the one embarrassed. He attacked Dave by throwing the table on him and Dave destroyed shit in the ring. They stared each other down. Taker vs. Jericho is the main event. [C]

Mind of Marv: Nice segment. This should be a decent matchup after all. I actually would like to see this go long term.

The Smack of the Night was Morrison and Ziggler from 2 weeks ago which Ziggler won by count out.

4. Intercontinental Champion John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler match ended double count out in 11:40. The match started cat and mouse but Morrison hit a facebuster to Dolph for a nearfall. Morrison went to the top rope, but Dolph tripped him off for a nearfall. Dolph hit a gutbuster for a nearfall. [C]

[Q6] The match returned with Dolph having the advantage. Morrison countered with gut shots. Morrison tried some offense but Dolph countered by moving and going for the pin for a two count. Dolph worked on Morrison’s ribs with kicks and a elbows for a nearfall. Dolph applied an body scissors to Morrison. Morrison countered out with elbows but Dolph countered out with an elbow for a nearfall.

Dolph started to talk shit and Morrison wacked him. They both exchanged blows and Morrison got the advantage for the nearfall. Dolph got the advantage with hard blows. Morrison hit a Pele kick for a nearfall. Morrison went for Starship Pain but Dolph countered with a roll up for a nearfall because his feet were on the ropes. Dolph took advantage but Morrison came back with blows. Both men exchanged blows and they both flew off the ropes. Both men ended up getting counted out. [C]

Mind of Marv: No doubt about it, Ziggler will eventually win the belt. The matches have gotten better. This upper mid-card program has been great and if u ask me, its pretty underrated.

5. Beth Phoenix defeated Lisa Taylor. Beth beats the hell out of Taylor. Beth hit a sick ass neck breaker to Taylor. The Glam Slam looked good because the jobber had nice tits…

Mind of Marv: I don’t know why, but I’m loving Beth Phoenix. She was underutilized on Raw but now, damn she strong and sexy.

[Q7]Jericho was backstage wrapping his knee. Matthews asked if he was concerned about Taker because he never faced him. Jericho said he is not dead; he is a human that can be beaten. He said that he can be beaten because he is a so-called magical man. He said he was the best in what he does and that is real. [C]

Next week, Morrison and Ziggler will be in a 2 out of 3 falls match for the IC belt next week.

Mind of Marv: About time WWE, that you make things interesting a week ahead…

6. World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker defeated Chris Jericho by submission in a non-title match in 14:00. Jericho started the match with blows to take Taker. Taker took over with kicks in the corner. Jericho kicked Taker but Taker clotheslined him outside of the ring. Taker hit the leg drop outside of the ring and worked on his arm. Striker said it was 36 titles between Jericho and Taker. With Big Show added its over 50 titles. Taker continued to work on Jericho’s arm and went for Old School but Jericho countered and knocking him off the top rope.[C]

The match returned with Jericho hitting punches on Taker. Jericho worked on Taker in the corner. Jericho hit a drop kick on Taker for a nearfall. Jericho applied an hammerlock on Taker. Taker countered out but Jericho took advantage and knocked Taker outside of the ring. Jericho taunted Taker and threw him outside of the ring. Striker talked about the epic feuds Taker has had with stars in the past such as Stone Cold, Yokosuka, etc.

Jericho kept using the ropes to advantage and hit blows to Taker. Taker and Jericho exchanged blows for the usually Boo and Yay chant. Taker hit Snake Eyes to Jericho but when he went for the Big Boot, Jericho countered out. When Taker when for the choke slam, Jericho countered out. Jericho worked on Taker in the corner but Taker went for the Last Ride but Taker countered with the Codebreaker for a nearfall. Jericho went for the Tombstone but Taker countered. Jericho hit the Lionsault. Taker went for the chokeslam, but Jericho countered the Walls of Jericho. Taker got out and applied the Hell’s Gate and Jericho tapped out.

Big Show came out and JeriShow attacked Taker. Kane came out and beat on the heels. Kane got a big ass ovation because he beat the hell out of Jericho. Big Show ran off on his partner. Vince was backstage and he talked to Teddy Long on the phone. He said that Kane and Taker will face JeriShow next week. Vince ripped Teddy Long and said that he had swine flu and asked if he approved the match. Kane did the pyro thing to close the show.

Mind of Marv: Good main event. I’m mad they gave this away on free TV, but damn this can be build up to a possible WM26 match. Give these guys 30 minutes and I will be on a flight to Phoenix in a heartbeat. Overall, much improved show from the past month. B+ for the most part.

The Smackdown Hitlist available and the record stands at 12-15 for the season. This is an disaster and this is a must win for my fantasy league this week. I don’t understand how the hell I went from being undefeated last year to being outside of the playoffs this year. But here are Week 10’s picks:

Saints over Rams – Blowout city in the making…

Patriots over Colts – game of the week which will end with a field goal

Bengals over Steelers – low scoring game, but my sleeper team of the year will pull off the win
