11/6 Hermanstyne's Live WWE Smackdown Coverage: Six man tag match to open Smackdown, Beth Phoenix in action, Rey Mysterio vs. Mike Knox, Matt Hardy seeks revenge against Batista in the main event
Nov 6, 2009 - 07:00 PM

WWE Friday Night Smackdown on MyNetworkTV
Taped in Providence, RI

[Q1] The opening montage aired and Todd Grisham and Matt Striker welcomed us to Smackdown. The main event is Batista vs. Matt Hardy. Undertaker came to the ring for a promo. He said that at Survivor Series taker was born and everyone has perished. He said every year that they come for the world title. He says they all come to be world champion. He said the belt is the Holy Grail for everyone who wants it. He mentioned that Big Show betrayed an entire team to be world champ. He did it to be eventually terminated by the deadman. He mentioned Jericho and said that its two things he desired and it was involving Kane. He said that Jericho took it away and his soul will be his. Jericho came out to interrupt.

Jericho came out to a shit load of heat. Jericho said finally after ten years, two of the biggest stars of the WWE are face to face.. He defined phenomenon and said he is the true phenom and he put himself over as usual. He said he the only one to tell the truth, for 20 years he has been lying to the fans by ripping him. He said newsflash, he is not an deadman. He said that he has been the likes of Cena, Hunter, etc.

He said he will beat Taker and become champ for the 6th time. He said that smoke and gown does not scare him. He said remember, Taker is just a man and he is not afraid of him. He said he is the new phenom because he is the best and asked him if he understands. Taker grasped him and Jericho attacked him. Taker hit a big boot to Jericho’s head.

Mind of Marv: Good opening segment. Let this feud slow build because this is a big money match for WM26. This can be a classic and epic match that can be better than HBK/Taker from WM25.

The worst heel turn ever was shown again with more footage from last week.…[C]

[Q2] Dolph came out to some pumped out heat. The Harts came out and Nattie looking tasty with the tan. Highlights were shown from Are You Smarter than a 5th grader which Morrison was on the show. Striker was heeling it up by ripping CT’s lifestyle.

1. Dolph Ziggler and The Hart Dynasty defeated Intercontinental Champion John Morrison and Cryme Tyme in 8:48. Morrison and Kidd started the matchup. It was rapid fire with Kidd and Morrison and Morrison hit a hiptoss to Kidd. [C]

The show returned with Dolph and JTG in the ring. JTG hit his moves on Dolph. JTG hit a chinbreaker and DH Smith got a cheap shot in. DH worked on JTG and the heels took over from there. The Harts hit some nice offense to JTG. DH applied an hammerlock to JTG and JTG countered out but the heels continued to dominate. Dolph went for a cover for a one count. JTG hit a backbreaker on Dolph and both guys tagged in their partners. Kidd and Morrison swapped moves.

[Q3] DH got back in the match but Morrison hit the Chuck Kick to DH. Morrison hit a flying corkscrew outside of the ring. Shad got some instant offense on DH but Dolph got the blind tag and hit the Zig Zag on Shad for the win.

Mind of Marv: Not a bad match, but I am sick of same combo of folks wrestling each other on SD or Superstars. It’s getting old as hell. Move on from this feud and push the Harts in the tag title picture. But I have a feeling that they will be in some kind of Survivor Series elimination match which will be bad because the Survivor Series is here in DC, ugh.

A sit down interview with Rey Mysterio is next….[C]

Josh Matthews interviewed Rey Mysterio. Matthews asked what state of mind is Rey in? Rey did the same old whiny speech and even said it in Spanish. Matthews said that Teddy Long said that Rye and Batista will face each other at Survivor Series. Rey said that Batista threw away their friendship and the spirit of Eddie Guerrero. He said that he showed a side of him he never seen and at SS, he will show him a side he never seen before.

Mind of Marv: BORING. Mysterio bores the shit out me and now he’s worse because he sounds like a little bitch like Batista was his only friend. Forgettable segment…

2. Beth Phoenix squashed Brittney Carter 1:53. Beth took that skinny version of Taylor Wilde and destroyed her. Enough said.

Mind of Marv: Beth Phoenix = Strong, sexy and powerful…

Batista speaks, next…[C]

[Q4] The Smack of the Night was from last week when Drew McIntyre beat the hell out of Finlay…

3. Drew McIntyre squashed Jimmy Wang Yang in :35. Yang did his ring thing and Drew knocked his ass off outside of the ring. Drew cut a promo and said he wants competition because he is a future world champion. Yang begged for him to come back in the ring. Yang hit some chops to Drew and Drew basically went bat shit crazy and hit his finisher on Yang. He gave Yang a knee to the head.

Mind of Marv: I’m still not buying Drew McIntyre because he is like Escobar, but better. He has a future, but he is only getting pushed because of certain wrestlers that are on the Raw brand which sucks.

Backstage, Batista was interviewed by Josh Matthews. Batista said he is not here to make friends, he is trying to be world champion. He said that Mysterio screwed him out of the belt and Matt hardy should of stayed out of his business. And if it meant hurting everyone on SD, he will. Mysterio vs. Mike Knox is next…[C]

Mind of Marv: Batista is so damn generic on the stick, it’s not funny. He’s better when he is a heel but he still sucks…

[Q5] 4. Rey Mysterio defeated Mike Knox 7:10. Knox owned Rey for the first 30 seconds then Rey hit some kicks and went for the 619 but Knox moved and hit a sick crossbody on Rey. Knox worked on Rey outside of the ring and went for a cover for a nearfall. Knox put his weight on Rey and Irish Whipped Rey into the corner. Knox applied a bearhug to Rey. Rey hit a baseball slide to Knox. Knox countered with a shoulder block for a nearfall. Knox applied an abdominal stretch to Rey. Rey countered with an DDT and both men were out in the middle of the ring.

Rey hit some blows, low dropkick and a bulldog for a nearfall. Rey hit Knox in the kidneys and hit a canton, but Knox countered with a clothesline. Grisham said the clothesline was like Alex Rodriguez hitting a homer (kiss ass). Knox ran into the ring post and Rey hit the 619 for the win.

Mind of Marv: Thanks WWE for officially burying Mike Knox. Knox has so much potential and he is being wasted by jobbing to Mysterio. It’s sad to see so much talent getting wasted.

[Q6] Next week, Morrison and Ziggler will wrestle for the IC belt.

Mind of Marv: Will Dolph finally win the belt or will he do another job to become 0-8 in IC title matches?

Video was shown of Punk squashing Scott Armstrong. Punk talked crap to Armstrong and Truth came out to the worst entrance ever by scaring everyone for being so pitch black. People sat on their hands for this crappy entrance…

5. R-Truth upset C.M. Punk in 10:30. The match started slow for the first minute because it was a ton of holds. Truth applied a neck scissors to Punk. Punk applied a double arm headlock to Truth. Punk got the advantage by head butting Truth, Truth clotheslines Punk outside of the ring. Truth springboarded Punk outside of the ring. [C]

The show returned with Punk kicking Truth. Truth hit a suplex on Punk and Punk countered with a kick for a nearfall. Punk tore up Truth’s back with a sick kick and suplex for a nearfall. Punk applied a modified bowing arrow submission to Truth. Haven’t seen that in a long time...

Punk hit an elbow and some blows to Truth. Punk missed jumping on Truth and Truth hit some punches to Punk and hit a clothesline. Truth did his unorthodox offense and Punk countered with a leg lariat for a nearfall. Punk chastised Armstrong and Truth pinned him quickly for the upset.

Mind of Marv: Actually, this wasn’t a bad match. The ending was weak, but it just furthers the storyline between him and Armstrong. Punk just sunk back into the mid-card with this storyline and again the WWE fails in furthering his character…

Backstage, Mickie was chastised by McCool and Layla. Mickie ripped McCool and said Layla is “Scary Spice”. McCool wanted her to pack her bags and go away and Mickie said they will work together in the Survivor Series elimination match and then she wants the women’s title back.

Mind of Marv: Funny, but Layla looks 100 times better than Scary Spice for the record…

Video of Matt Hardy and Batista was shown from last week and the main event is next. [C]

[Q7] The Raw Rebound was shown…

Matt Hardy was interviewed and Matthews asked him about last week. Matt talked about his history with Jeff and he wanted to help Batista. He said he did come here to talk with Batista, but he wanted to fight him. Matt came out for his entrance…[C]

Mind of Marv: Short and effective promo by Matt…

6. Matt Hardy beat Batista via DQ in 13:40. Batista came out to a ton of heat to the ring. Batista used his power to get the early advantage. Matt came back with some blows to Batista. Batista hit a decent clothesline to Matt and Irish Whipped him to the corner. Matt tried some blows but Batista suplexed Matt for a nearfall.

[Q8] Matt went for a cover, but Batista powered out and did his vintage shoulder blocks in the corner. Batista tripped Matt off the ropes. [C]

The show returned with Batista still dominating Matt. Matt tried to come back but Batista countered with a toe hold and an Irish Whip for a nearfall. Batista applied a body scissors to Matt. Matt got out of the body scissors by hitting elbows to Batista. Matt countered with a neckbreaker. Batista tried to spear matt, but Matt countered with a low drop kick and a DDT. Matt went for a moonsault but he missed. Matt hit a Twist of Fate, but Batista grabbed the rope.

Batista hit the sloppiest spinebuster in a while. Batista stomped him and knocked him out of the ring. Batista started to destroy Matt by grabbing a TV monitor and hitting him for the disqualification. He continued to beat the shit out of Matt. Batista went for a Batista Bomb, but he pushed him and the crowd gave him heat for walking off. He did a Khail type scream.

Next week Jericho vs. Undertaker…

Mind of Marv: This match was boring because this was basically a Batista squash for most of the match. Matt looks weak as a result and Batista get some points for being a bad ass. But overall, this was another average show. C- is the grade for the week. They are giving Jericho vs. Taker away next week? What are they thinking giving away a WM worthy match? Makes no damn sense…

The Smackdown Hitlist available tomorrow by Chris Shore (even though Marv should get a chance once in a while, ha-ha….Protest to Jason Powell if you care!!) and I’m 10-12 for the season (could have been better if I was picking Powell’s Purple Eaters, but I refuse to root for the Wrangler wearing senior citizen called Favre.) But here are Week 9’s picks:

Pats over Dolphins – Brady is going to own the Fins and its cold as shit there now. No questions asked, start all Patriots with confidence if you have them. Maroney should get garbage yards in the second half.

Seahawks over Lions – This is an obvious pick because the Lions just scream FAIL. Hasslebeck should get 3 TDs with ease of the Detroit Kittens…

Bears over Cardinals – Even though Larry Fitzgerald is my favorite WR and Arizona’s pass defense is OK, I can see this being a close game. The Bears will prevail, but I won’t be shocked if Cutler throws a couple of picks.

Texans over Colts – This is an upset special because Indy’s secondary is beat up and Bob Sanders is out for the season. The Texans lost Owen Daniels for the season but he still has Andre Johnson who is a total BEAST. Texans nip the Colts 28-24

Eagles over Cowboys – Romo is overrated and Miles Austin will not reach 100 yards in this game....

Send comments, suggestions to mr.hermanstyne@gmail.com and I will debate anything, sports related. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next week.
