ECW on SyFy
Taped in earlier in Providence, R.I.
[Q1]A video package recapped the ECW title match from last week, including the post match run in…
Shore’s Slant: Twilling’s herpes are flared up again. Thanks for watching along with me again this week.
Ringside, Christian’s music hit and he made his ring entrance as Josh Matthews and Byron Saxton welcomed us to ECW on SyFy. Christian got a mic and called out Regal. Regal didn’t come out so Christian said he was going to find him. Tiffany’s music hit and she came to the ring. Matthews called her smart, sexy, and powerful. Is this now a mandate from Vince? Tiffany said she owed Christian an apology because Regal only did what he did because she wouldn’t give him a title shot. She said if Christian fought Regal, he would just be giving Regal what he wanted. Christian said that was fine with him.
Regal’s music hit and he and the crew came out. Regal said he wouldn’t give Christian what he wanted unless it was for the title. Christian said get a ref and let’s get it on. Tiffany said fine and asked Regal if he accepted the challenge. Regal said no. He said if he was to have an ECW title match, he wanted it to be in front of a deserving crowd. He said he wanted it to happen next week in front of his home crowd in England. Tiffany made the match and said Jackson and Kozlov were banned from ringside. She said Regal’s match was next. He handed Zeke the mic and sent the goons backstage. As Regal tried to enter the ring, Christian hit a dropkick that spilled him to the floor…[C]
Shore’s Slant: OK opening segment. Christian and Regal are probably the two best on the stick in ECW so no complaints. I am bored with the feud a little and hope it ends soon. Tiffany is way out of her league here. The experiment with her as GM has been a failure. Time to move on.
Back from commercial, the announce team hyped the main event…Regal was introduced as already in the ring. Goldust made his ring entrance…
1. William Regal defeated Goldust at 4:03. Regal sold the dropkick from Christian. Regal shoved out of a collar and elbow and the men traded blows. Goldust got the better and pummeled Regal. Regal rolled to the floor and Goldust followed. Goldust worked Regal on the floor and rolled him in the ring. He hit an atomic drop and then six punches in the corner.
[Q2]Regal hit a kick and took control. He whipped Goldust to the corner and hit a clothesline for two. He locked in a rest hold. Grinding the forearm across the face. Goldust made his feet and fought out. He hit several strikes and clotheslines on Regal. He whipped Regal to the corner and botched a powerslam on the bounce out for two. Regal stood in the corner and Goldust charged in. Regal moved and followed with the knee trembler for the win. Post match, Regal celebrated up the ramp as a video recapped the end…
Backstage…damn. Backstage, Zack Ryder was shown checking himself out in the mirror and putting gel in his hair. Rosa Mendes walked up and started talking to him. A dream sequence had Rosa standing in front of a fan and bad 80’s hair metal played. Ryder snapped out of it and Rosa asked if he liked her dress. He said yes and she touched his arm. Ryder squirted his hair gel in the air and Rosa walked off. I shit you not…[C]
Shore’s Slant: Filler match that reminded everyone who Regal was. Nothing special at all. The powerslam was awful. What the hell was that with Ryder? Are you serious? Please don’t turn ECW into Raw lite.
Back from commercial, the new ring announcer introduced the guest ring announcer. She talked about being nervous and a producer told her to move on. She introduced Ryder who came out to no heat. Benjamin came out to some heat, but not what he deserves…
2. Shelton Benjamin defeated Zack Ryder at 3:44. Benjamin started out with a waist lock take down. They mat wrestled and Ryder rolled to the floor. He told Rosa he was fine and then ran from Benjamin. He slid in the ring and dropkicked Benjamin when he tried to get in. Ryder worked him in the corner and hit a running kick for two. He went to the chin lock. Benjamin made his feet, but Ryder swept the leg for two and went back to the hold.
Benjamin made his feet and Ryder drove him to the corner. The two men traded blows and Benjamin hit a back body drop and took control. He hit a belly to belly suplex and Ryder spilled to the floor. They fought on the apron and Benjamin flipped into the ring. Ryder stared at Rosa and turned into Pay Dirt. Benjamin covered for the win. Rosa announced him as the winner and he celebrated up the ramp. Ryder sold the move and walked around ringside…The announce team hyped the main event…
Shore’s Slant: Woo, woo…shit. What a tool they are making this guy out to be. I still hate his gimmick, but now I feel bad for him. Distracted by Rosa? How pathetic. The match was OK, but way too short.
[C][Q3]Back from commercial, Paul and Katie Lea Burchill were in the ring. He said he wanted to meet the Hurricane but he wasn’t there. Hurricane’s music hit and he came to the ring. Paul said, “You realize Halloween is over.” Hurricane said for some people, Halloween lasts all year, “Just ask your sister.” Burchill said he was tired of Hurricane because he had fooled the people into liking him. He said he was the better man and yet they cheered Hurricane. Hurricane put himself over and said chicks dig superheroes. Burchill said he had a proposal. He proposed a mask vs. he and Katie Lea leave ECW match. Hurricane accepted and the Burchills left the ring…
Backstage, Abraham Washington and Tony Atlas were shown talking. Washington complained about Regal destroying the set. He said the set was in his momma’s name because he had that bad credit. He said they were going to get Tiffany to buy them a new, nicer set, complete with a fart sound board for Atlas. He started to knock on Tiffany’s door and a big dude came out. He stared at Washington and walked off. Tiffany came out and said that was ECW’s newest star Vance Archer and he was intense…[C]
Shore’s Slant: How racist is Vince McMahon?
Back from commercial, the Raw Rebound recapped Ozzy’s hosting of Raw…
[Q4]Back ringside, Vance Archer made his ring entrance. He’s very tall, probably 6’8” or so, but not big. A local jobber was already in the ring…
3. Vance Archer squashed Logan Jones at 0:55. Vance tossed him around and then hit a swinging reverse DDT for the win…Christian and Yoshi Tatsu were shown backstage, heading towards the ring.
Shore’s Slant: Hi Vance, nice to meet you. I hope this guy can move in the ring because we have are required slate of big slow guys.
Back from commercial, the announce team hyped the ECW title match for next week…Zeke and Kozlov were already in the ring. Christian and Yoshi made separate entrances…
4. Christian and Yoshi Tatsu defeated Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson at 5:46. Zeke and Tatsu started. Zeke shoved Tatsu out of the first lock up. Tatsu came back with several kicks and hit a drop kick for a half a count. Zeke tagged in Kozlov. Kozlov missed several slow kicks and stood still to allow Tatsu kick him. Kozlov no sold and leveled Yoshi. He shoved him into the corner and tagged in Zeke. Zeke tossed Yoshi around and tagged in Kozlov. Kozlov hit two headbuts to the chest and then a belly to belly for two. Zeke tagged back in and locked in a rest hold.
[Overrun]Zeke whipped Yoshi to the corner and ran in. Yoshi moved and tagged Christian. Kozlov tagged in as well and Christian worked his offense. Christian hit a reverse DDT, but Zeke broke the count. Christian and Yoshi dumped Zeke over the top and Yoshi hit a plancha on him. Kozlov hit a fall away slam, but Christian responded with a DDT and the Kill Switch for the win. Post match, Regal ran in and attacked Christian. Zeke hit Christian from behind and they worked him over. Zeke and Kozlov drove Christian rib first into the post and Regal locked on a STF ringside. He talked junk to Christian to end the show…
Shore’s Slant: No ring psychology in that match what so ever. It was a simple formula, make Christian look like a beast and screw everybody else. That may have been the worst hour of WWE programming I have ever seen. Wow. I’ll have more to say in the ECW Hitlist tomorrow. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you Thursday for Superstars.
