10/23 Hermanstyne's Live WWE Smackdown Coverage: Team Smackdown gets a makeover, Batista and Rey Mysterio vs. Kane and Chris Jericho, Undertaker vs. C.M. Punk in a submissions match for the World Title
Oct 23, 2009 - 07:00 PM

WWE Friday Night Smackdown on MyNetworkTV
Taped in Columbia, South Carolina

[Q1] The show started with a video of the Montreal Screwjob Part 2. The opening montage was shown and Michael Cole and Jerry “The King’ Lawler welcomed us to Smackdown. They hyped the tag team main event for the night. Jericho came out to good ass heel heat. Video was shown from Raw with both teams attacking each other.

Jericho said this Sunday; he will be the mastermind to team SD to a crushing defeat to team raw. Everytime he steps in the ring, he wins and the only way to shut DX, he needs to tweak his team a little better. He wants to ensure every man is worthy to compete with him. JTG came out and interrupted Jericho. JTG said he appreciated the offer, but he will pass tonight. Jericho asked where Shad was and he said was he in jail? JTG said Shad is sick. Jericho said what makes him sick is that he has to be partners with him and his partner got the flu from the germ incubators. He asked do you know what it takes to be in the ring with Chris Jericho and Vickie interrupted him.

Vickie introduced Eric Escobar and the heat she got dipped about 99.99%. Eric said that he heard a lot of talk from DX saying they don’t know who he is and the crowd chanted “Who are you?” He said that when he leads the team to victory, they won’t forget the name Escobar…

Dolph came out and said let’s get down to business. If anyone who is going to lead the team, it’s going to be him. JTG started to rip Dolph and Drew McIntyre interrupted. Drew started to put himself over and said he should have been captain and Kane interrupted and said that no of them are worthy to fight aside him. And Jericho said “And Me”.

Kane said that all four guys are busy and Jericho asked if they have the tenacity to compete. Jericho said that it will be a 4 on 5 match and if they lose, they will be replaced by the five men who beats them. They said the match is next…[C]

Mind of Marv: This segment was shit because the guys came out and got little to no heat at all. They look like weak ass heels no one cares about. Especially, Escobar because Vickie is his heel heat….him by himself people don’t care about. Jericho and Kane look like a decent tag team on paper.

[Q2] The Harts, Finlay were already in the ring. Matt Hardy and R-Truth came to the ring. Everyone sat on their hands for Truth’s wack entrance...

1. Matt Hardy, The Hart Dynasty, R-Truth, and Finlay defeated Dolph Ziggler, Eric Escobar, Drew McIntyre, and JTG to become the new members of Team Smackdown in 9:30. Kidd and JTG started the match. JTG hit a leg drop for a quick nearfall. Finlay got the tag and worked on JTG with a uppercut and a clothesline. Dolph tagged himself in and worked on Finlay in the corner. Finlay hit the shoulder block in the corner to Dolph. Dolph tried to splash on Finlay but he missed and went outside of the ring. [C]

Drew and Finlay were in the ring and Drew got the advantage. Kane and Jericho watched backstage. Dolph got back in the ring and hit that jumping elbow to Finlay. Dolph tagged Drew and continued to work on Finlay. Dolph got a cheap shot on Truth and Matt got in the match with some quick offense. Matt went for the cover for a nearfall. Matt hit the side effect on Dolph for a nearfall. Eric got involved and there was a bunch of people knocking each other out of the ring. Finlay hit JTG with the shillelagh and Matt hit the Twist of Fate on JTG to win the match.

[Q3]Punk and Scott Armstrong was backstage and they was discussing the match and Teddy Long listened to them. Long talked about him losing his job and Punk was putting himself over about becoming champion again. Armstrong said someone else can do his dirty work and Vince got in his face. Morrison is coming out for his match next…[C]

Mind of Marv: OK match, nothing memorable. Team SD is better than what it was but as long as DX is on Team Raw, it mean nothing because DX loves to bury people.

Cole said Morrison’s entrance is the coolest…

Mind of Marv: Damn, Cole is a tool…

The Reading Rainbow thoughts of the educated Mike Knox video coming up…

2. Intercontinental Champion John Morrison defeated Mike Knox in 3:09. The match started with some blows and Knox hit a crossbody on Morrison for a nearfall. Knox used his slow ass offense on Morrison countered with a roll up for a nearfall. Morrison got some blows and a spinning heel kick to Knox. Morrison went for a Bulldog, but Knox countered with a big boot. Morrison hit a drop toe hold to the ropes and hit Starship Pain for the quick win.

Mind of Marv: Damn, what a way to blink and the match is over. Knox is getting buried on this brand because they have nothing for him…

Morrison cut a promo on the Miz. He said that the Miz is worried about being HBK and not Jannetty. He said he knows what he is, the Friday Night Delight, John Morrison. They hyped the world title match for tonight…[C]

The show returned with the new Team Smackdown put each other over backstage…

[Q4] Mickie James and Mae Young were talking and McCool said hey to Mae and ripped Mickie. Mickie ripped McCool and said she will take that women’s championship. Beth said hello to Mae and attacked McCool about taking her title. McCool talked some shit and Mae took her prehistoric hand and smacked the shit out of McCool…

Mind of Marv: I wish Mae smacked some weight on McCool…

Mysterio and Batista bickered backstage. Rey hyped Batista’s DVD and they talked more about who will win the world title on Sunday. They were coming out for their match, next…[C]

Mind of Marv: I smell a Batista heel turn on Sunday…

[Q5]3. Batista and Rey Mysterio defeated Kane and Chris Jericho in 10:00. Batista and Jericho started the match. Rey got the quick tag and hit a leg drop and a knee to the jaw. Rey went for 619 early, but Kane dragged him out of the ring. [C]

Kane worked on Rey and the heels took control of the matchup. Jericho talked shit and messed with Rey. Rey hit a bulldog on Jericho and both men try to make a tag but Jericho tagged Kane and got a cheap shot at Batista. Kane hit a low drop kick on Rey for a nearfall. Jericho got the tag and stepped on Rey’s head. Jericho hit a suplex on Rey for a nearfall. Jericho applied a hammerlock on Rey and Rey countered by throwing Jericho out of the ring. Rey tagged Batista and he worked on Kane. Batista hit a shoulder block and a spinebuster. Batista went for a Batista Bomb but Jericho hit an insurghi.

Jericho went for a Codebreaker, but Batista hit a Batista Bomb on him. Kane hit a chokeslam on Rey and Batista hit a spear on Kane scored the win…

Vince, Punk, Armstrong and Long was backstage. Vince said he was excited about the match and said that Long gets a gold star for making the match. Vince started to ramble about Wrestlemania. He thanked all the men and Armstrong looked distracted as hell…[C]

Mind of Marv: Decent tag team match. I would have had a fit if Jericho had to do another job, but its fine. The match is nothing to brag about, but it wasn’t as bad as I expected.

[Q6]4. Mickie James beat Layla in 2:45. Mickie did a cartwheel and hit a dropkick to Layla. Layla tossed Mickie off the top rope for a nearfall. Michelle McCool was watching backstage. Layla hit a side slam on Mickie for a nearfall. Mickie slapped the shit out of Layla and hit a clothesline. Mickie hit a neckbreaker for a nearfall. Mickie hit the Mick Kick for the win.

Mind of Marv: Damn, the 2 thickest Divas in the WWE. The match sucked, but damn they are both sexy.

A Lou Albano tribute video was shown…[C]

[Q7] The John Cena and Orton rivalry was shown and the Bragging Rights card was ran down and the Bragging Rights card was ran down by the Raw announcers. Punk made his entrance with Teddy Long and Scott Armstrong.

Punk said it was empowering that he can humiliate everyone at home and in the arena. He brags about making Taker tap out again. He ripped the fans and said that Taker can’t beat him. He said his bragging rights start tonight and he will become the world champ again. He said the best part is that there is nothing anyone can do about it. [C]

5. Undertaker defeated C.M. Punk in a submissions match to retain the World Heavyweight Championship in 11:38.
[Q8] Taker and the weeklong entrance and he used a shit load of dye so he doesn’t look old…

Punk laughed outside of the ring. Punk hit a nice hook on Punk to start the match. Taker worked on Punk’s arm. Punk got a slight advantage and they both stared at each other. [C]

The show returns with Taker dominating Punk outside of the ring. Punk made Taker slip inside of the ring. Punk slammed Taker’s leg into the ring steps. Punk took control outside of the ring and tossed Taker back in the ring. Taker tried a choke slam but Punk countered out. Punk got the advantage. Take took control with Snake Eyes and the leg drop to Punk. Taker went for Hell’s Gate but Punk got out.

Taker went for Old School, but Teddy Long distracted. Punk hit a high knee and a bulldog. Punk asked for Teddy Long’s chair and Long gave Armstrong the chair. Taker hit a big boot to Punk with the chair. Taker choke slammed Armstrong with the chair. Taker looked at Long and Long looked scared. Punk smacked Taker with the chair.

Punk applied the Anaconda Vice and Taker countered with the Hell’s Gate for the win.

Mind of Marv: Predictable main event for the most part. This PPV does not intrest me, one bit. If you can find it somewhere for free, I give you props because this is not worth buying at all. Overall, average show and it gets a C from Marv.

The Smackdown Hitlist available tomorrow and Swami Marv is 7-12 for the season an it’s a headache but, Here are my picks for Week 7:

Steelers over Vikings – I hate the Vikings because I am a Bears fan and I want Powell to cry. This is the week to lose and Troy P is back….so it’s time to see the Wrangler Jeans promo senior citizen get sacked. This is a Twilling vs. Powell Super Bowl of sorts, so I gotta root for Twill’s team for one week only. Steelers win a defensive game 17-13…

Miami over New Orleans – I feel like an ass supporting a Michigan QB, but Chad Henne is gonna be the difference in this game. Miami is a decent defense and the Saints are gonna lose. This is my upset special of the week…

Colts over Rams – This is the obvious pick of the week. If you pick the Rams, you are obviously high….

Send comments, suggestions or concerns at mr.hermanstyne@gmail.com and I will debate anything, WWE or NFL related. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next week.
