10/15 Shore's WWE Superstars Live Coverage: Mark Henry vs. Chris Masters for a spot on Team Raw at Bragging Rights, Vladimir Kozlov vs. Tommy Dreamer, and John Morrison vs. C.M. Punk
Chris Shore Oct 15, 2009 - 07:00 PM |
|
Superstars on WGN America
Taped in Indianapolis, Ind. and Lexington, Ky.
[Q1]The opening video aired, followed by the pyro, and Michael Cole and Jerry “The King” Lawler welcomed us to Superstars. They hyped the Smackdown main event…Mark Henry made his ring entrance. The announce team ran down the current team. Masters made his ring entrance…
1. Mark Henry defeated Chris Masters at 10:15 to earn the last spot on Team Raw at Bragging Rights. Collar and elbow tie up led to Masters pushing Henry off and talking junk. They locked up again and Henry shoved Masters to the mat. He hit a shoulder tackle and Masters slipped to the floor. Master came back in and hit several strikes, but Henry slammed him and covered for two. Henry locked in a nerve pinch.
Masters made the ropes and stood on the apron. Henry came over and Masters hit a hangman. Masters tried for a sunset flip but Henry sat on his chest and then stood on his chest. Masters roiled to the floor again. Henry followed and scooped Masters up on his shoulder. Masters slipped off his back and drove Henry into the post. Henry recovered into the break…[C]
Back at 7:08, Henry had Masters in a bear hug in the middle of the ring. A video showed Henry catching Masters and racking his back on the apron during the break. Masters backed Henry to the corner for the break. Masters went to the top and hit a clubbing blow for two. Masters worked the hurt leg and then teased the Masterlock. He went back to the leg instead.
Henry hulked up and hit several clotheslines in a row. He tried to lift Masters but dropped him because of the knee. Masters tried for a cross body, but Henry caught him and hit the World’s Strongest Slam for the win. Post match, the announce team hyped the Raw team…The Ask a Diva segment aired…
Shore’s Slant: Not a bad match. Henry is not the best big man ever, but he’s passable at times. Masters looks better than he ever has and he’s not getting pushed. That’s how it works in WWE though, if it makes sense, they’re not interested.
[Q2][C]Back from commercial, Vladimir Kozlov made his ring entrance as Josh Matthews and Matt Striker took over on commentary. The new ring announcer girl sounds very young and unskilled. She hypes the face too much. Tommy Dreamer made his ring entrance…
2. Vladimir Kozlov (w/Ezekiel Jackson) defeated Tommy Dreamer at 6:00. Dreamer got in a couple of shots before getting leveled by Kozlov. Tommy managed to reverse a whip into a crossbody, but Kozlov no sold for one. Kozlov charged at Dreamer and he pulled down the ropes. Kozlov spilled to the floor. Dreamer dove from the apron, but Kozlov moved and pushed him into the table.
Both men rolled back in the ring and Kozlov worked the arm. They zoomed in and it looked like Dreamer was smuggling softballs in his elbow. Ouch and ew. Dreamer hulked up and the crowd chanted ECW. Kozlov worked Dreamer in the corner. Dreamer slid out and hit a hangman. The ref checked on Kozlov and Zeke wrapped Dreamer’s hurt arm on the turnbuckle. Kozlov hit the battering ram and his Rock Bottom for the win. Post match, Zeke hit his Rock Bottom and they stood over Dreamer…The Batista DVD commercial aired…
Shore’s Slant: Dear God could that have been any slower? I have seen snails hump faster than this match went. Six minutes? It felt like six days. Wow. And then Batista gets his own DVD? Only because it will sell a shit load, not because he’s earned it in the ring.
[Q3][C]A Jack Swagger hype video aired…Back ringside, Todd Grisham (flying solo tonight?)introduced a video that recapped the Orton/Cena feud…Grisham was joined on commentary by The Miz. John Morrison made his ring entrance. He and Miz stared down into the break…[C]
Back from commercial, Punk came out to less heat than he deserves…
3. CM Punk defeated John Morrison by disqualification at 14:46. As expected, Miz was solid gold on the mic. He put himself over as the leader of the tag team with him and Morrison. In the ring, Morrison tugged on a head lock. Punk whipped out and lost the shoulder tackle challenge. Morrison ran the ropes and stomped on Punk. He hooked a head lock into a toss.
[Q4]Punk got a dirty break and hit several strikes. He hit the ropes and charged on Morrison. Morrison hit a one man flapjack followed by the standing Shooting Star Press for two. Punk retook control with strikes and locked in a headlock. Morrison snap mared out, but ran into a body slam for a two count. Punk tossed Morrison to the floor where he recovered into the break…[C]
Back at 8:06, Punk had body scissors locked on. A video showed Punk hitting a front suplex on the stairs during the break. Morrison elbowed out. He stood and went for an elbow drop, but Punk brought the knees up in the ribs for back to back two counts. He whipped Morrison and pushed him straight up in the air to fall on his chest. Morrison rolled to the floor.
Punk tried to suplex Morrison back in, but he slid out and hit a roll up for two. Punk hit a stomp to the ribs for two and locked in a submission hold. Miz was killing Grisham. He hyped the Dirt Sheet on Smackdown tomorrow night. Morrison hipped tossed his way out and stood in the corner. Punk ran in and Morrison moved, sending Punk to the post.
Morrison hit mad strikes and a spinning heel kick for two. He tried for a suplex, but Punk slipped out in a reverse DDT setup and suplexed Morrison that way for two. Punk hit the high knee in the corner, but Morrison pushed him off on the bulldog. Morrison hit a running knee for two. He slammed Punk in the corner and setup for Starship Pain. He jumped up and Punk pushed him onto the top. He climbed up and they battled. Punk fell and Morrison started for Starship Pain again, but Miz slid in the ring and stomped Punk in the face, causing the DQ.
Post match, The Miz backed up the ramp looking smug. Punk stood and the ref raised his hand. Morrison hit the Chuck kick to a huge pop as Miz watched…
Shore’s Slant: I could watch these two go all night. And it chaps my ass to know they are going to be on the sideline watching Batista, Undertaker, and Cena screw up what was the best show on TV. And yeah, I said Cena. You know he’s coming home. You know he is. He’s beat everyone on Raw at least twice. There are people on Smackdown he hasn’t had a chance to “overcome the odds” on. So here comes Superman. Yea. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you tomorrow night for Smackdown.
