10/9 Hermanstyne's Live WWE Smackdown Coverage: Rey Mysterio returns to Smackdown, John Morrison vs. Dolph Ziggler for the IC title, C.M. Punk vs. Batista
Oct 9, 2009 - 07:00 PM

WWE Smackdown on MyNetworkTV
Taped in Trenton, NJ

[Q1] Still footage was shown of Undertaker’s win inside HIAC. The brand new spanking montage was shown. JR hyped Taker’s appearance and Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio was announced. Batista and Punk is the main event for tonight. Teddy Long was in the ring and he congratulated Taker for winning the world title. He said that SD was the big brand of WWE and he put over the Bragging Rights PPV and the wack ass Orton vs. Cena Iron Man match.

Long said that Cena is welcome to SD if he loses. Punk interrupts Long and gets a ton of heat.

Mind of Marv: If Cena goes to SD, I will be drinking Captain thoughout the show to numb the pain of seeing the 5 Moves of Doom.

Punk looked pissed and said John Cena? He said the GM of SD is talking about a Raw wrestler? He said that SD does not need Cena. Punk chastised Long and said the only Number One contender, should be him. He put himself over and said he had a guaranteed rematch. He said NJ is a dump and he’s mad that he has to face Batista. He said that he wants his rematch and he wants no stipulation but he wants a submission match. He wants Scott Armstrong as the referee and he should be ringside. Long was talking but Vince came out with his punk ass strut to the ring.

Long kissed ass and introduced Vince and Vince said he is still on probation. Vince said that the announcement will not please anyone and Taker will be facing Batista, Mysterio, Punk in a Fatal Four Way. He said that the opening match will be Mysterio and Jericho.

Mind of Marv: Fatal Four for the world title??? Let me get this straight, Batista gets moved and he gets a title shot? Mysterio is suspended for 30 days and he gets a title shot? What the hell is this? I’m not really happy about this announcement because people getting title shots knowing damn well they don’t deserve it. But the main event picture on SD is so saturated, the WWE will continue to torture us with this crap, ugh.

[Q2] A rematch between Morrison and Ziggler is later tonight. Still photos was shown of the unified tag title match was shown.

1. Rey Mysterio pinned Unified Tag Champion Chris Jericho in 11:27. Both men lock up and Jericho shoved Rey. Rey used quick offense and hit a splash on Jericho outside of the ring. Jericho came back with a clothesline. Jericho hit a standing vertical suplex for a nearfall. Jericho threw Rey and Rey countered with a tilt-o-whirl takedown. Jericho hit a nasty clothesline and a hangman. Jericho threw Rey out of the ring like trash. [C]

The show returned with Jericho applying a hammerlock on Rey. Rey went for a rollup for a nearfall. Jericho hit an insurghi and threw Rey outside of the ring. Jericho worked on Rey and tried to take his mask off. Rey hit a cinton and a crossbody for a nearfall. Rey went for the 619 but Jericho went for the Walls of Jericho but Rey countered with an inside cradle for a nearfall. Jericho hit a backbreaker on Rey for a nearfall. Jericho went for a bulldog but Rey countered. Jericho applied the Walls of Jericho to Rey. Rey countered out with a kick and a 619. Rey hit the splash for the win.

Mind of Marv: Good match to open the show with but here are the negatives: Why are they putting Rey over after he comes back from suspension? Don’t they usually bury guys for wellness violations? Why is Jericho doing so many jobs? First to DX on Monday, then Rey tonight? The politics in WWE is just as bad as what we deal with everyday in America. But anyway, this can be a feud they may eventually come back to…

[Q3] The Raw Rebound was shown. Cryme Tyme’s Word Up was shown. The word of the day is: Eve…they basically showered her with compliments. They said she has a match next…[C]

Mind of Marv: Lame segment…

2. Women’s Champion Michelle McCool beat Eve in 3:17. Both women exchanged blows in the corner. McCool played cat and mouse with Eve and she took advantage. Grisham said McCool won the women’s title in June and haven’t lost it since.

Mind of Marv: I wonder why…

Eve came back with some dropkicks and a crossbody for a nearfall. McCool hit a boot and Eve countered with a cradle for a nearfall. McCool hit a boot for the win.

Mind of Marv:Well that match sucked…

The hyped Taker’s appearance for later tonight…[C]

[Q4] Backstage, Vickie and Eric Escobar was in Teddy’s Long’s office. Vickie bitched about Escobar not being in a match and how Punk and Taker were at a unfair advantage. Long said it was Vince’s idea and Escobar spoke Spanish while kissing Vickie’s hand. Vickie said that Long is still on probation. Morrison and Dolph made their ring appearance. [C]

Mind of Marv: This segment is shit. Escobar looks like a tool dating someone who can basically be his mother, Long continues to look like a tool. By the way, this picture of a chunky Vickie Guerrero just made me chug a beer…

3. John Morrison defeated Dolph Ziggler to retain the Intercontinental Title in 9:39. The match started with some smack talk and both men lock up. The first minute of the match was pretty technical. Dolph applied a hammerlock to Morrison. Morrison reversed into a armbar takedown. Morrison hit a dropkick for a nearfall. Dolph went for a backbreaker but Morrison countered with a inverted backbreaker and a leg drop for a near fall. Morrison hit a Pele kick to Morrison for a nearfall. Dolph hit a belly-to-back suplex for a nearfall.

[Q5] Dolph started to slam Morrison’s head into the ring and hit a jumping elbow for a nearfall. Dolph applied a Cobra Clutch to Morrison. Morrison tried to come back but Dolph hit an elbow to Morrison and taunted him in the corner. Morrison came back with blows but Dolph countered with a scoop slam for a nearfall.

Dolph went back to the Cobra Clutch and Morrison countered with an Electric Chair. Morrison hit clotheslines, a spinning axe kick, and a stand shooting star press for a nearfall. Morrison jumped on Dolph and they both flew out of the ring. Dolph rammed Morrison into the ring. Dolph grabbed a chair and left it on the side. Maria grabbed the chair and Dolph splashed on Morrison.
Dolph hit a dropkick on Morrison. Dolph looked for the chair and Maria looked at him. Morrison hit the Flying Chuck for the win. A video package was shown of Undertaker. [C]

Mind of Marv: Dolph Ziggler is 0-5 on TV and PPVs in IC title matches and why is he still getting title shots? Obviously, Dolph doesn’t get enough heat but he is still very talented. But anyway, this match was like the Jericho/Mysterio match is was OK, but nothing memorable.

[Q6] Backstage, Dolph was ignoring Maria and then he started to ramble about his professional and personal life and dumped Maria. Batista and Rey were in the locker room and Rey thought he let Batista down. Batista said it was OK and started to ramble about winning the world title.

Mind of Marv: Dolph dumping Maria was actually a highlight of this mediocre show…

R-Truth entrance is so bad; Kanye West needs to say this: “Hold Up, Truth I think you entrance is worst of all time…” Matt Hardy made his entrance. [C]

McIntyre came out to Michelle McCool heat…in other words, no heat whatsoever…

4. Drew McIntyre and Kane beat R-Truth and Matt Hardy in 4:00. Drew and Matt started the match. Matt worked on Drew’s arm and tagged Truth in. Truth hit some kicks but Kane got the bling tagged and kicked Truth all the way back to Carolina. Kane hit a low dropkick for a nearfall. Drew got back in the match and hit nice slam for nearfall. Kane tagged back in and worked on Truth. Truth hit drop toe hold on Kane and Drew got back in the match. Matt came back with some fast offense and he hit the Side Effect for a nearfall. Truth dropkicked Kane. Kane hit a sick ass uppercut and Drew hit his finisher on Matt for the win.

Mind of Marv: So I bet it’s safe to say because of his brother Jeff’s legal issues and him running his mouth a few weeks ago that Matt Hardy will get used to some jobbing on Smackdown? This was your basic filler match which was basically bored the hell out of me.

Taker comes out next…[C]

[Q7] Tony Chimmel introduced Taker which is followed by his hour long entrance.

Mind of Marv: One beer coming up…

He says he is the reaper of souls and the world heavyweight champion. He said that this is the holy grail of everyone that steps in the ring. He went on with his deadman promo and how he will take Punk’s soul. He will show Rey No Mercy. He says Batista’s strength and rage will not save his soul. He said one by one, each of them will fall one by one and will rest in peace.[C]

Mind of Marv: Same old generic ass Taker promo about taking souls and blah, blah, blah…

[Q8] 5. C.M. Punk defeated Batista via countout in 11:30. Punk kept running in and out of the ring. Punk started with some kicks to Batista but Batista used his power to an advantage. Punk ran out of the ring again. Punk went for a crossbody, but Batista caught him and went for a Batista Bomb but Punk crawled out. [C]

Punk hit the knee in the corner and went for the bulldog. Batista countered and Punk high knee again, but Batista hit a spinebuster. Punk rolled to the floor and Batista came out. Batista attempted the Batista bomb, but Punk grabbed the ropes and kicked Batista. The referee started the ten count and Batista got counted out. Batista hit a Batista Bomb to end the show.

Mind of Marv: Here’s Marvo with the sarcastic update ---well it seems that Batista basically squashed Punk here and makes things no better because this show was terrible. Batista moving to SD was already a red flag and with Punk in WWE’s doghouse, it makes things no better for him. This was a terrible main event and this show was very lackluster. It gets a C- for effort and that’s because I’m being nice.

The Smackdown Hitlist available tomorrow and Swami Marv is 5-7 for the season. It’s been a frustrating season so far with my picks, but are Week 5 Picks:

Jaguars over Seahawks: The Jags have been on fire and I like Mike Sims-Walker. He’s a fantasy stud and if he is on the waiver wire (which I doubt these days) he is a must start against that atrocious Seahawk pass defense.

Panthers over Redskins: Carolina is 0-3 and the bleeding stops here. DeAngelo Williams should have a big game and Washington’s offense will continue to struggle.

Texans over Cardinals: This should be a shootout and Schaub should have 350 yards and 3 TDs. Arizona’s pass defense is in the bottom of the league because their corners suck. Kevin Walter and Andre Johnson are must starts.

Send some emails at mr.hermanstyne@gmail.com and I will debate anything, WWE or NFL related. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next week.
