WWE “ECW on Syfy”
Taped earlier tonight in Trenton, N.J.
[Q1] Footage aired of last week’s shown and William Regal’s announcement that he was taking over as general manager for an injured Tiffany. Regal getting pinned in the eight man tag main event closed the footage...
Twill’s Two Cents: WWE might be PG with no blood, but a huge cut opened up on Twilling’s leg and it looks like I got shot. I didn’t notice it, so I hope I didn’t get blood all over my carpet.
The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the stage. William Regal and his crew came out to the ring. The announce girl was horribly subdued, almost like Howard Finkel was in the old WWF video games. Regal said he was still the general manager and he was naming himself the number one contender to the ECW Championship.
Zack Ryder came out to no music and no fanfare (because the fans don’t know whether or not to cheer him). Ryder said he should be the number one contender. The ECW Champion, “Why is Alicia Fox on pay-per-view?” Christian came out. Christian said neither Ryder nor Regal deserved a shot at the title.
A janitor, Tony Atlas, and Yoshi Tatsu all came out to the stage. Christian said Angelo the janitor changed all of the urinal cakes in section 105, so at least he accomplished something. He said even though Tony Atlas hangs out with Abraham Washington, he is a WWE Hall of Famer and he “does this.” He held the mic up to Tony and Tony laughed. He moved onto Yoshi and said he pinned both Regal and Ryder, so he should be the number one contender.
Christian said what they thought didn’t matter however, since he ran into Tiffany in the hallway. Tiffany came out with a huge cast and sling on her broken arm. She said everyone would get to make their case to becoming the number one contender. She booked Yoshi vs. Regal, Christian vs. Ryder, and said Kozlov and Jackson were in tag team action after the break... [C]
Twill’s Two Cents: Solid segment in the fact that there is a lot going on and the show is about more than just a couple of guys. I wonder how Regal was given the okay for mic time when Tiffany was hanging around the entire time. That sneaky, sneaky Tiffany.
[Q2] 1. Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson defeated Goldust and Tommy Dreamer in 5:19.. Okay, the new announcer is subdued, but I like her better than Lilian already. She names hometowns and weights. Lilian always left something out. The babyface team enjoyed some early success before Goldust was distracted by Kozlov, who was not the legal man. Jackson took over and heels used solid teamwork.
Tommy received a hot tag and did some things I haven’t seen from him in years. He nearly scored the pinfall on Jackson but Kozlov broke it. Goldust became distract with Kozlov and Jackson hit his finisher on Dreamer for the win...
Twill’s Two Cents: Okay, the announcer needs work. She announced the winners as if she was telling someone over the phone. “Hey, who won the match?” Her reply was a basic, “Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson” in a very low key voice. By the way, can Kozlov and Jackson work a long match where they have to sell a lot?
Tiffany and Regal spoke backstage. Regal tried to get his power back, but Tiffany said she was itching to get back to work. She said Regal better prepare for his match because it was coming up next... [C]
Footage was shown of Ben Roethlisberger hosting Raw last night...
[Q3] 2. Yoshi Tatsu defeated William Regal in 10:12. Regal was tying his boots because he wasn’t ready yet. Again, Tiffany’s little surprise entrance screwed over one of her employees. That would be like telling the Detroit Tigers to suit up tomorrow night minutes before game time in New York because the Minnesota Twins celebrated too much tonight. Yoshi enjoyed the early advantage... [C]
Back from commercial, it was still Yoshi having the advantage. Not sure what the deal was here, but this match seemed like both guys were a step off with a few sloppy spots. Regal grabbed the advantage and grounded him with some physical submissions. He hit a double underhook suplex for a two count.
Yoshi hit a very impressive dragon screw leg whip to regain the advantage. He quickly scored a two count. Yoshi missed a spinning heel kick from the top rope, however, he hit his kick finisher for the win. It was obvious Regal’s foot was under the rope, so they will address that later...
Kozlov and Jackson came out to the ring as Regal argued with the referee. There was a replay with indisputable evidence. Striker agreed but Matthews said there is no replay in WWE, so the referee’s decision is final...
Twill’s Two Cents: Maybe it was just me, but that match was just not that good to me. The styles did not seem to mesh all that well. Regal will still have a case to argue because he should not have taken the three count. What the hell is Tiffany doing backstage anyway?
[Q4] Zack Ryder made his ring entrance. It’s one thing to be cool like he is, but why is he wearing a girl’s shirt from the early 90s, with the see-through sleeves? Anyway, when he arrived to the ring, Regal was still arguing and Regal’s boys found themselves comfortable sitting at ringside... [C]
Back from commercial, Regal was still bitching. Funny how Striker referred to Christian as the longest reigning champion in WWE, since both Cena and Punk lost their titles on Sunday...
3. Christian defeated Zack Ryder by disqualification in a non-title match in 12:01. These two picked up where they left off from the last two times they faced. Solid and crisp action early that saw Ryder take the advantage with a slingshot guillotine, knocking Christian to the floor... [C]
Back from commercial, Ryder was still in control of the bout. Ryder hit an old school Rude Awakening for a two count. Nicely done. Ryder continued to apply a chinlock, as if he was about to go an hour or something. Christian scored his first nearfall after a modified reverse DDT.
[Overrun] He followed up with a nice top rope high cross body for a two count. Ryder tried to come back but Christian hit a second rope tornado DDT for yet another two count. Ryder countered the Killswitch with a sweet Tiger Bomb for a two count. Christian backdropped Ryder to the floor. Christian hit a high cross body. Jackson and Kozlov attacked Christian the referee called for the bell...
After the match, Regal hit the running knee on Christian. Ryder was pissed for being cost the match. Jackson closelined Ryder and Kozlov hit his finisher on him. Regal, Kozlov, and Jackson stood with their arms raised triumphantly as the show went off the air...
Twill’s Two Cents: I didn’t enjoy it as much as their previous two efforts, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. You have to assume Ryder will align with Christian and eventually, Regal will become the ECW Champion. I hope Ryder then will get a title run as well.
