10/2 Hermanstyne's Live WWE Smackdown Coverage: The Decade of Smackdown, Batista vs. Kane, The Rock has come back to Smackdown for one night only, an a eight man tag match between John Cena, DX, and Undertaker vs. C.M. Punk, Legacy and Randy Orton
Marvin Hermanstyne Oct 2, 2009 - 07:00 PM |
|
WWE Smackdown on MyNetworkTV
Taped in Boston, Mass.
[Q1] The show began with a video of the memorable events of the Smackdown. A brand new Smackdown montage was shown with the “Cross the Line” lyric?
Mind of Marv: Somebody is jockin’ TNA…but the new song and montage isn’t not bad, though.
JR hyped the eight man tag match for later and The Rock’s promo. The announcers were in the ring and they thanked everyone for being there and tuning in for the celebration. Backstage, all the superstars were partying and Hornswoggle was bartending. Batista got a huge pop for his entrance. Number #64 from the Smackdown DVD was shown with Batista and Rey Mysterio won the tag team championship.
1. Batista defeated Kane in 9:45. The two men locked up and Kane got the early advantage on Batista. Batista stomped and clotheslined Kane for a one count. Kane hit a side slam on Batista and stomped his head. Kane DDT’ed Batista’s left arm and started to work on his arm. Kane applied a wrist lock on Kane and Batista countered by throwing Kane out of the ring. [C]
[Q2] The show returned with Kane working on Batista’s arm. Both men hit the big boot on each other and knock each other out. Batista got the advantage by shoulder blocking Kane and working on him in the corner. Kane hit a sidewalk slam for a nearfall. Kane went to the top rope and hit a clothesline on Batista. Kane went for a choke slam, but Batista spinebusted Kane for a nearfall. Batista clotheslined Kane and went to the top rope to fall into Kane’s hand. Batista countered out and hit a Batista Bomb to get the win.
Mind of Marv: Decent match overall seeing that Kane had to carry Batista in the match. But so far so good to start the show.
JR hyped Batista and Mysterio vs. JeriShow for HIAC. Backstage, Teddy Long thanked everyone for coming to the party. The Brooklyn Brawler was there and Long said he was not a Yankees fan. Michael Cole yelled Vintage Hornswoggle…tool. Cole kept yelling Vintage and was obviously drunk as hell. Finlay’s has a toast with Cole and Long and the other Superstars. Long was going to take the shot but Punk told him not to take the shot.
He said that as long as he is champion, no more alcohol. Vickie Guerrero with (short hair) popped up and said it’s a shame to let Taker use his Hell’s Gate submission. Eric Escobar was Vickie’s boyfriend and Vickie told Long that she is Eric’s manager. Santino Marella came dressed as Taker and sacred the shit out of Teddy Long and he said it was a great costume party. Long took the shot and was petrified Eddie Guerrero’s tribute is next…[C]
Mind of Marv: More Vickie? Interesting…Long is really a tool if you ask me. Cole is showing his ass as a drunk and it’s kind of hilarious.
The show returned with Michael Cole calling Horny a shrimp because he didn’t give him no shrimp and Horny kicked him in the shin. Cole is obviously drunk as hell at this point. Meanwhile, Mark Henry and MVP were letting everybody in the VIP lounge except Zach Ryder. Sgt. Slaughter and Iron Sheik got in the party. Sheik called Ryder a jabroni…
Mind of Marv: Funny segment and I can’t wait to Cole to throw up, LOL…
[Q3] The Eddie Guerrero tribute video was shown…[C]
Jack Swagger came out for commentary. John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler for the IC title is hyped at HIAC. Kingston is now billed from his ORIGINAL home country.
Mind of Marv: So why in the hell was the saying he was from Jamaica? I knew he is from Ghana, so why didn’t they say that when he debuted?
2. The Miz and Dolph Ziggler defeated Intercontinental John Morrison and United States Champion Kofi Kingston in 8:30. Miz and Morrison started the matchup. They talked some smack and Miz got the early advantage. Morrison dropkicked Miz and scared off Ziggler. [C]
[Q4] Kofi and Dolph were in the ring when the show came back. Swagger smiled when Dolph got the advantage. The heels started to work on Kofi in the corner. Miz hit a lateral press for a nearfall. Miz hit a facebuster on Kofi and Miz tried to sling Kofi but Kofi countered with a punch to Ziggler. Ziggler got in the match and worked on Kofi. Miz got cocky and missed hitting Kofi in the corner. Morrison and Ziggler got in the match and Morrison hit a leg lariat and hit a standing shooting star press for a nearfall. Kofi jumped on Miz on the outside. Dolph hit a somewhat botched Zig Zag to pin Morrison.
Mind of Marv: Good match and these mid-card championship matches maybe the best on the show because they are actually fresh. The main events are stale and disinteresting.
Kung Fu Naki, Yoshi Tatsu, and Jillian Hall were doing karaoke to Shawn Michael’s “Sexy Boy” theme. Sheik and Slaughter was going at it with Iran or USA. Sheik was choking and Hurricane did the Heimlich on him. Finlay and Horny was getting Cole drunk as hell. Jericho and Show came out and said they should be the guest of honor. Jericho put him and Show over because they were on the first show. Cole threw up on Jericho’s shoes and Show threw up right after. [C]
Mind of Marv: Jericho’s face was so hilarious, enough said. The rest of the segment was endless filler…
[Q5] Justin Roberts introduced The Rock. The Rock did a zillion and one takes before he got it right…basic comedy. He said finally, “The Rock has come back to Smackdown!” He said ten years that Smackdown was on the air and he was there for the beginning. He started to do the Smackdown hotel song. He said that the first time from Berlin to Boston everyone was chanting the Rock’s name. He said ten years later, he still wants to hear his name chanted. He said now, ten years later whose champion now, some guy named C.M. Punk. He said straightedge dude, don’t drink or smoke. He said that he should be BM Punk ---bowel movement because that is what everyone wants to do when he talks.
He put over Taker and talked about whooping his candy ass all over the world. He started to crack jokes and started to talk shit about the producer. He did the “It doesn’t matter what you think” thing and ripped the guys shirt with a hairy chest and said it was disturbing. He put over Taker as the next new world champ. He said he should guest host Raw in the future. He said he will be the most electrifying host on Raw. He kept playing with the camera and said: “If you smell what the Rock is cookin’?”[C]
Mind of Marv: The Rock ---Dwayne Johnson can put one hilarious promo and It’ s still golden. Nice to see him back but it would be nice to see him full time because Raw needs him bad. I’m pretty sure anyone under 14 doesn’t know who the hell he is, but the adults showed some love.
[Q6] 3. Women’s Champion Michelle McCool defeated Melina to retain the Women’s championship in a Lumber Jill match in 2:30. McCool got the early advantage on Melina. Melina was going to get help from the babyface divas, but McCool grabbed her. Melina hit a flapjack on McCool for a nearfall. Jillian Hall pulled Melina’s leg and Melina jumped on Jillian and Rosa Mendes. The Divas brawled outside and Beth Phoenix distracted Melina. McCool hit the Faith Breaker aka Styles Clash to get the quick win.
Mind of Marv: You see, I’m glad I had beers with me because this was useless filler time for the Divas. 2 ½ minutes of TOTAL FAIL…
Taker cut a promo for Punk. He said that he is going to enter the eternal suffering of the Undertaker. He said he will reclaim the world title and he will knock him to a point that he will need to the take the pills and alcohol he despises and he welcomed him to Hell in a Cell. [C]
Mind of Marv: I’m sorry but Taker promos have been so generic since 2004…come up with some new material.
Backstage, everyone was dancing a Drew McIntyre proposed a toast and R-Truth came in and they both started to brawl. DX made their overrated appearance. Cena came out…time to chug a beer. Moment #100 was shown from the Best of Smackdown DVD….of the debut of the worst belt in history, the spinner WWE belt….umm, I mean championship. Taker did his hour long entrance.
Mind of Marv: Everytime Cena get in the match, chug a beer or take a shot. Trust me, it will relief the pain you have to endure watching the 5 moves of doom.
Moment #32 was shown with Vickie Guerrero banishing Taker and Taker chokeslamming her to hell. [C]
[Q7] Orton and Legacy came out together. Punk came out to the most heat out of the heels.
Mind of Marv: Its funny that Punk’s music was once Orton’s theme for one time only. YouTube it and find out….
4. WWE Champion John Cena, Undertaker, and DX defeated Randy Orton, C.M. Punk, and Legacy in the biggest eight-man tag team match in 21:50. Cena and Rhodes started the match…
Mind of Marv: Drink…
Cena worked on Cody with a punch and a bulldog for a nearfall. Cena tagged Hunter in the match and got a punch in. Cody tagged Ted in the match and him and Hunter locked up. Hunter punched the hell out of Ted and clotheslined him. Hunter hit a neckbreaker on Ted for a nearfall. HBK stuck his foot out and Hunter slammed Ted into it and HBK got in the match. HBK did hit chop and worked on Ted. HBK offered Taker the tag but Ted countered. Taker got a blind tag, hit Ted and stared down HBK. [C]
Mind of Marv: So far so good…I like the Taker and HBK tension.
[Q8] Taker worked on Cody and tagged Hunter in. Hunter flexed Cody and did the suck it chop to Cody. HBK got tagged in and Cody started to punch HBK’s lights out. Ted got the tag and started to do the same to HBK. Orton finally got in the match and the heels beat on HBK like a piñata. Punk did the Stone Cold stomp to HBK and the heels took advantage. Orton stomped HBK in the abdomen and Cena was begging for a tag. Cena kept intimating Orton and Cody got back in the match. HBK hit an insurghi on Cody and HBK tagged Cena.
Shoulder Block, shoulder block, spinner bomb and you can’t see me…and Ted stopped it. Cena tried to do a double attitude adjustment, but Legacy countered and worked on Cena. [C]
Mind of Marv: Remember, drink when Cena is in the ring…
The show returned with Punk working on Cena. Orton got tagged in and he beat on Cena. Orton stomped on Cena and Cena went for the Attitude Adjustment but Orton countered with a DDT. Ted got back in the match and worked on Cena. Ted went for dream Street but Cena broke out. Ted hit Cena with a clothesline. Cena hit a belly to belly suplex on Ted. Ted tagged Punk and Cena tagged Hunter.
Hunter hit the high knee and the facebuster on Punk. Hunter hit the double-A spine buster and Hunter tagged Taker. Taker worked on Orton with Snake Eyes and the big boot. Orton hit the backbreaker on Taker and Taker applied the Hell’s Gate. It was a finisher fest on the heels. Orton was trapped between the faces and Taker hit the Tombstone on Orton to win the match. All the babyfaces music played and it was a shower of confetti all over the arena.
Mind of Marv: Good but not great main event. The heels looked really weak in my opinion. Why in the hell is Orton doing all these jobs? Does he have backstage heat? He has been looking really weak and I am selling him high.
But overall, Smackdown X gets a B-/C+ because it was a decent show, but it was nothing memorable. Where in the HELL was Edge??? He saved this show when it was bleeding and he gets no appearance. This was something Dot Net reader Terri Bey mentioned when she read the spoilers and it raised a good point. But it did promote the PPV very well and so far, the undercard matches seem to be more interesting, overall.
The Smackdown Hitlist available tomorrow and Swami Marv is 4-5 for the season.
Here’s is my picks for Week 4:
Jets over Saints: I’m not a J-E-T-S mark like Mike Greenberg, but I am putting my undefeated fantasy streak on the line with Mark Sanchez. Me and my opponent is the only undefeated teams in the league so I will be monitoring this week heavy. Just give me 200+ yards and some TDs and I can handle the rest because my original QB (Kurt Warner is on bye).
Cincinnati over Cleveland: This is a give me game because Cleveland is terrible. Cincinnati’s defense is a must start if you playing fantasy, point blank.
Packers over Vikings: Its unusual that I pick the Packers, BUT…Powell will be at the Monday night game and I want him to come home a drunken hot mess after we see the old Favre throw some interceptions and the Vikings finally lose. This should be an entertaining game for the most part.
Send some emails at mr.hermanstyne@gmail.com and I will debate anything, WWE or NFL related. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next week.
