WWE “ECW on Syfy”
Taped earlier tonight in Boston, Ma
[Q1] William Regal opened the show by informing us that general manager Tiffany was involved in a car accident and would not be in attendance tonight. The board of directors put him in charge because of his past experience. He changed tonight’s main event from Christian vs. Zack Ryder to Christian vs. Zack Ryder, himself, Ezekiel Jackson, and Vladimir Kozlov...
Tony Atlas was on the stage and introduced The Abraham Washington Show. Abe came and introduced his guest, John Morrison. Morrison came out in his new t-shirt. Morrison put over Atlas’ laugh and said he wanted to make it his ring tone. He said he liked the Abraham Washington Show. They compared it to the Dirt Sheet.
Morrison apologized for comparing Atlas to Miz since Miz would never be in the Hall of Fame. Dolph Ziggler came out and verbally sparred with Morrison about the Intercontinental Championship. The show ended with Atlas saying goodnight to Ziggler...
Twill’s Two Cents: Are they turning Washington babyface? I hope so, because the show was crap when he tried to be a cocky heel. Atlas has really made this thing likeable and it was great to see Morrison and Ziggler on Tuesday night.
Backstage, Regal and his boys were taking a phone call. Zack Ryder came in and said he could handle Christian by himself. Regal was informed tonight’s main event would now be an eight man tag featuring Christian, Yoshi Tatsu, Goldust, and Tommy Dreamer vs. Ryder, Regal, Jackson, and Kozlov... [C]
u>Twill’s Two Cents: Ryder told Regal he had a problem with him, although he did not mention Regal calling last week’s title match a joke, or whatever terminology he used. Ryder makes a good heel, but he would make a fun babyface too.
[Q2] 1. Shelton Benjamin defeated Paul Burchill (with Katie Lea) in 9:47. Before the match, Sheamus beat the crap out of Benjamin on the floor as Burchill looked on. The referee checked on Shelton and he agreed to start the match. Burchill worked on the arm and shoulder early in the match and had the advantage thanks to Sheamus... [C]
Back from commercial, they showed a nasty bump Shelton took on his shoulder on the floor. Shelton’s first glimmer of hope was when he reversed a suplex into a neck breaker. Burchill quickly dominated again but Shelton hit Paydirt absolutely out of nowhere for the win...
Twill’s Two Cents: Given who was wrestling, this should have been a great match, but because of the pre-match attack, Shelton was forced to sell for pretty much the whole time. The finish was creative and a more even match between the two would be awesome.
[Q3] The graphic for the main event was shown... [C]
Did you know? More people watched ECW last week than any show on some B level cable channels...
The announcers plugged Randy Orton challenging John Cena for the WWE Championship at Hell in a Cell. A video hyping the match played. Matthews and Striker ran down the rest of the card afterward...
Backstage, Christian gave Tommy Dreamer a pep talk. He then exchanged a bunch of bows and “thank yous” with Yoshi. He finished by calling Goldust a freak. They did a “hands in” chant. Goldust made his twitch noise and everyone else did it too. Weird segment...
Regal, Kozlov, and Jackson made their way to the ring. Looks like we aren’t getting Ryder’s music, which is a shame... [C]
[Q4] Back from commercial, Ryder did make his entrance. Nice! Ryder and Regal had some dissention based on their awkward interaction earlier in the show. The babyface team made their entrances one at a time. Christian got a very nice pop...
2. Christian, Yoshi Tatsu, Goldust, and Tommy Dreamer defeated Zack Ryder, William Regal, Ezekiel Jackson, and Vladimir Kozlov in 15:57. Dreamer and Ryder started the match. The action was very solid while Christian and Ryder were in the ring together. Dreamer tagged in and a double team reverse DDT netted a nearfall... [C]
Back from commercial, the heel team worked over Dreamer on their half of the ring. Christian tagged in and Jackson enjoyed some extended offense on him, including knocking him to the floor. He suplexed him back into the ring and scored a two count.
[Overrun] Christian took a beating from all four of his opponents and unfortunately, the match just stayed at a very slow pace. Christian made a tag after hitting a missile dropkick on Kozlov. Yoshi made the most of his hot tag by hitting every cool move in the book on Ryder. After a nearfall, chaos broke loose. Regal tagged in and everyone else was on the floor. Yoshi hit a kick and pinned Regal...
Twill’s Two Cents: Unfortunately, we had to sit through the first fifteen minutes to get the fun finish with Yoshi looking impressive and everyone else tumbling to the floor. Interesting show format tonight with two very long matches and some intriguing filler. Could have done without the Cena and Orton stuff.
