9/25 Hermanstyne's Live WWE Smackdown Coverage: Teddy Long Whereabouts, John Morrison and Finlay vs. Mike Knox and Dolph Ziggler, Batista vs. Big Show, C.M. Punk and Undertaker continue their feud
Sep 25, 2009 - 07:00 PM

WWE Smackdown on MyNetworkTV
Taped in Tulsa, OK

[Q1] The show started with the Teddy Long apology and his abduction by The Undertaker last week. Justin Roberts introduced Punk and he came out to a chorus of heat from the crowd.

Mind of Marv: Damn, it seems like Punk is getting Vickie Guerrero heat by the week….COOL!

Punk says he gets it because everyone destroy their brain cells with alcohol and prescription pills. He mentioned that the reason why he is talking about them is because he would like to talk about his accomplishments. He talked about being the only 3 time straightedge world champion, win MITB twice in a row and he did everyone a favor by getting rid of Jeff Hardy. He talked about using the Anaconda Vise to make Taker tap and he got more heat. He said he did it all without drugs, alcohol and help from the crowd. He said he wants anyone who has a position in the company to come give him some respect. He wants to know who his next opponent is because he defeated Taker.

He said it’s no one left and the arena got dark with the druids bringing a casket to the ring. Punk started to panic and he grabbed a chair. Punk went towards the casket and smacked it a couple of times. Punk raised the coffin and Long was tied up in the same suit from last week. Punk said he thought it was someone else and said that Taker was too scared to come out. He said that Teddy looked like he been out on a bender that the crowd goes on. Punk untied Teddy and Teddy said effective immediately, the Hell Gate can be used and its 100% legal. He will defend the world title against Taker inside HIAC.

He said that Punk will face Taker tonight in the main event. Long sold the week long beating by looking beat up and barely being able to stand up. Punk looked utterly confused and the announcers hyped Batista and Big Show for later tonight. [C]

Mind of Marv: The opening segment was alright, but Punk is starting to get redundant with his promos. He could care to switch it up here and there but since he is a straightedge heel, so I guess it makes sense.

[Q2] 1. Intercontinental Champion John Morrison and Finlay vs. Mike Knox and Dolph Ziggler. Finlay and Dolph started the match. Finlay got instant offense on Dolph but Dolph tagged in Knox. Knox hit a big boot to Finlay and the heels worked on Finlay. Dolph placed Finlay in a hold in the middle of the ring.[C]

[Q2] 1. Intercontinental Champion John Morrison and Finlay defeated Mike Knox and Dolph Ziggler in 9:10. Finlay and Dolph started the match. Finlay got instant offense on Dolph but Dolph tagged in Knox. Knox hit a big boot to Finlay and the heels worked on Finlay. Dolph placed Finlay in a hold in the middle of the ring. [C]

The show returned with the heels still working on Finlay. Knox hit a nasty leg drop for a nearfall. Morrison has yet to be in the matchup. Dolph hit a dropkick on Finlay for a nearfall. Finlay hit some elbows to Dolph, but Dolph countered with a body scissors to work on Finlay. Morrison and Knox got tagged in and Morrison hit a leg lariat and a standing shooting star press for a nearfall. Knox hit a big boot to Morrison and knocked Finlay off the ring. Morrison hit the Flying Chuck for a nearfall. Knox accidently hit a cross body on Dolph and Finlay got the shelleigh to hit Knox. Morrison hit Starship Pain to win the match.

Mind of Marv: This match did nothing for me. It was basically a 6 ½ minute handicap match and Morrison got little to no offense. This show is starting to bomb like last week and that’s no good.

[Q3] Backstage, Cryme Tyme, Eve and Slam Master J was chatting. JTG gave SMJ a can of spray and he ran off to get the Best of SD DVD and the WCW DVD. CT and Eve ran off because they told SMJ to spray paint Teddy Long’s office. Long came out and asked him if he did it and SMJ admitted to it. Long set him up for a match, next. [C]

Mind of Marv: I wonder what rhymes with wash…because that is what is going to happen next, hehe. SMJ is such a tool…

2. Kane squashed Slam Master J in :40. SMJ got some punches and a low dropkick but that was basically it. Kane hit a side slam, choke slam, BOOM.

Mind of Marv: Can we give SMJ his pink slip already and the show really sucks right now, real talk.

CT and Eve couldn’t do nothing but shake their heads. Vince is backstage and Punk asked about Long making him wrestling Taker. Vince wished him luck and Punk looked stupefied. [C]

[Q4] Justin Roberts introduced Vince and he came out to a nice ovation. Vince thanked the crowd and said Oklahoma is like home. Vince ripped Oklahoma and BBQ sauce. He talked about Smackdown’s Tenth Anniversary and he put over some of the stars of SD past including Taker, Batista, Cena and DX. He talked someone who can be future world champion and appreciate Oklahoma more than he does. Vince introduced Drew McIntyre and he came out to some decent heat.

Drew said that he should be surprised but he’s not. He said there is no one on the SD brand than can match his skills. He mentioned that Long is too busy to notice him and the crowd chanted “USA”. He said it will eventually be about him after the celebration next week. He said that a party is thrown for him in the back and he can ensure that the party just begun and R-Truth interrupted.

Truth said he welcome him to SD by beating his ass in the ring. Referees came out and tried to break things up but they still scrambled for a while. Batista and Big Show are next. [C]

Mind of Marv: Vince made an appearance to talk about stars from the past that won’t be there and to put over McIntyre? This show is officially shit. Ugh.

[Q5] The Smack of the Night was Batista vs. Jericho from last week.

3. Batista beat Unified Tag Champion Big Show(with Chris Jericho) by disqualification in 11:00. Show showed his power by shoving Batista twice to start the match. Batista tried to shoulder block Show but he ran into a brick wall. Show hit some chops to Batista in the corner. Jericho played cheerleader outside of the ring. Show hit Batista in the abdomen and Batista hit a shoulder block to Show knock him out of the ring. [C]

Mind of Marv: So far 3:30 of boredom…

The show returned with Big Show locking Batista up in the middle of the ring. Batista hit a chin breaker to Show but Show countered in a bear hug. Show put Batista in a DDT position and hit a leg drop for a nearfall. Show applied the bear hug back to Batista and Batista came back with a boot to Show. But Show scooped slammed him and tried to splash Batista but he moved. Batista hit a spear on Show and he attempted a Batista Bomb but Show countered with a choke slam attempt. Batista applied a ankle lock to Show, but Jericho interfered. Batista spinebusted Jericho and applied an ankle lock to Jericho.

Mind of Marv: This match was terrible. It was so slow and it picked up towards the end, but people were still bored as hell. I don’t know what’s going on, but SD has been bad the past two weeks and with more Vince appearances, basically this show is starting to get stale slowly. Taker and Punk are later on tonight.

Long and Vince were backstage and Vince ripped Teddy about his appearance. Then Vince wondered about his picture in his office. Long was trying to tell him that it wasn’t ready and Vince said he didn’t care how it looked and Long showed him the spray painted Picture (SMJ did it earlier in the night and it said “Vinnie 2 Da Mac”. Vince snapped on Long…[C]

Mind of Marv: Either, Vince is drunk with this shitty segment or he is encouraging me to get a drink.

[Q6] They hyped the “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader” show with John Morrison and The Miz (as guest hosts) which will come on My Network this Tuesday.

Mind of Marv: If WWE didn’t want to kiss the asses of the kids anymore, ugh…

4. David Hart Smith (with the Hart Dynasty) pinned JTG (with Shad and Eve) in 2:50. JTG hit some quick offense to DH for a nearfall. DH hit an clothesline and stomped JTG out in the ring. DH hit a power slam to JTG for a nearfall. DH applied a stretch to JTG and worked on him in the corner. JTG came back with some clotheslines and a flying neck breaker. JTG hit a leg drop for a nearfall. Eve and Nattie scrapped outside and Tyson Kidd kicked JTG’s head off. DH hit a suplex to win the quick match.

Mind of Marv: Why won’t this feud end? The matches end the same way and a less than three minute match is downright pathetic.

[Q7] The announcers hyped the Cena gauntlet for Monday. Punk vs. Taker is still to come and they showed Batista beating on JeriShow. Batista will be interviewed after the break. [C]

Mind of Marv: Cena is basically going to plow thru everyone then Orton kicks his ass at the end. HIAC is really something I am recommending not watching at this point…

They hyped the main event for next week: Taker, DX and Cena against Legacy, Randy Orton and Punk.

Mind of Marv: Oh Great, Cena on Smackdown next week, gotta have a 12 pack ready for this one.

Josh Matthews interviewed Batista and Batista said that they will not hold on to the tag titles for long because he knows someone who was a former world champ and his number is 619.

Mind of Marv: Mysterio is on suspension and he gets mentioned on TV and he is in the tag title hunt already? Talk about the stroke within management and you spoiled the outcome of the match at HIAC. Good Job, WWE you are becoming a epic fail before my very eyes.

Punk came out for his main event match. [C]

[Q8] Taker made his 99 minute mind-numbing entrance…

5. World Heavyweight Champion C.M. Punk defeated Undertaker by countout in 12:15. The first 30 seconds was a cat and mouse chase with Taker catching Punk. Punk then got the advantage by working on Taker in the corner. Taker threw Punk out of the ring. [C]

The show returned with Taker getting the advantage. Taker kicked Punk in the head then elbowed him in the head which led to the “vintage” leg drop on his neck. Taker went on to work on Punk in the corner with shots to Punk’s body and arm. Taker went for Old School but Punk countered with his Mai Tai offense. Punk went for a superplex, but Taker pushed him off. Punk hit some headbutts to Taker and hit a superplex.

Punk went for the cover but it was for a nearfall. Punk hit a leg drop for a nearfall. Punk applied a body scissors to Taker. Taker grasped Punk’s throat and Punk started to kick Taker in his thigh and both men exchanged punches. Taker hit Snake Eyes, the Big Boot and leg drop for a nearfall. Taker went for chokeslam, but Punk kicked Taker in the head. Taker applied the Hell’s Gate but Punk put his legs on the rope. Punk tried to run off but Taker caught him. Punk pushed Taker into the announce table and got back in the ring before the ten count and Taker got counted out.

Mind of Marv: This match wasn’t even decent because the entire show was a disappointment. Out of all seriousness, what in the hell did I just watch? This show was just as bad as Raw this week if not worse. Rhino says, “Gore, Gore, Gore!” This show screams “FAIL, FAIL, FAIL.” This show was shitty and there was not one good thing about tonight.

There aren’t enough words to summarize this show tonight. It was worse than last week and with Cena being on the show next week, I see no improvement for the so-called 10th anniversary show.

The Smackdown Hitlist available tomorrow (an trust me its more Misses, in my opinion) and Swami Marv is 3-3 (0-3 Week 1 and 3-0 last week) but there are some interesting games on tap this weekend. Week 1 was full of clunkers and I proved people wrong last week.

Here’s is my picks for Week 3:

49ers over Vikings – I know Powell will roll his eyes at this pick but come on….the Niners defense has improved dramatically and Adrian Peterson is banged up because #4 is only throwing 15 times again. Niners pull off the upset 27-24.

Jets over Titans – I don’t know what the heck is wrong with Tennessee, but if they allow more than 21 points, I will drop their defense, period. They got me negative fantasy points last week but I still won by 40 points. Jets go to 3-0 and the Titans fall to a surprising 0-3.

Redskins over Lions – Remember I live in DC and if the evitable happens, I may have to look for new employment. Skins better win by 20 points, point blank.

Send some emails at mr.hermanstyne@gmail.com and I will debate anything, WWE or NFL related. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next week.
