9/15 Twilling's WWE "ECW on Syfy" Live Coverage: Coming out of the Breaking Point pay-per-view, who will the next person to step up and challenge Christian for the ECW Championship?
Sep 15, 2009 - 09:00 PM

WWE “ECW on Syfy”
Taped earlier tonight in Hamilton, Ontario

[Q1] Extended footage aired of Sunday night’s ECW Championship match between Christian and William Regal. Christian retained the title...

The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the stage. Josh Matthews and Matt Striker welcomed us to the show. Tiffany’s music (and about ten other former diva’s music) hit and she came out to the ring. She said the WWE Universe was still buzzing about Breaking Point and as the general manager, she was proud of the ECW Championship match. William Regal’s music hit. He came to the ring flanked by Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson.

Regal apologized for the interruption and said Tiffany looked lovely. He reminded her he used to be a general manager and was so for much longer than she was. He asked why great talent like Kozlov and Jackson were banned from ringside. Tiffany said she wanted to keep the match one-on-one. Regal said he deserved one more chance at the belt.

Tiffany said she would not allow Regal a shot at the title again. She announced a battle royal tonight to determine a new number one contender. She reminded Regal he was not challenging for the title again and that he would be in action right now. Hurricane Helms made his entrance as the show went to commercial... [C]

Twill’s Two Cents: That was BS. Regal pushed Christian to his limits so while he should not be given another title shot, he should be given the opportunity to earn another rematch. I like the battle royal stipulation because it opens the door for a lot of guys and battle royals every so often are fun. I hope Regal finds a way to sneak into and win the battle royal.

1. William Regal defeated Hurricane Helms in approximately 2:47. Regal wrestled in his suit because he was not dressed to compete. The match was joined in progress coming back from the break. Regal won the match with his running knee to the head after an awkward count cadence from the referee...

[Q2] After the match, Paul Burchill attacked Hurricane and left him lying in the middle of the ring...

Twill’s Two Cents: Again, Regal vs. Helms could be at least a nice match and more specifically, a nice feud, so I am surprised they jobbed out Hurricane that quickly. However, if Regal is going to continue to challenge for the title, he needs wins, so this was a good one for him.

Backstage, Goldust and Yoshi Tatsu continued their English lessons. Goldust did his twitch thing and Yoshi mimicked it. Zack Ryder came in and told Yoshi to say “loser.” Yoshi paused and said, “Zack Ryder.” Ryder did his “Woo woo woo” catchphrase and said he would see Yoshi in the ring tonight... [C]

A graphic for Batista heading to Smackdown was shown...

Footage aired of Burchill attacking Hurricane after his match. Burchill was shown walking in the locker room area. He was stopped by a new announce girl. Burchill said Gregory Helms was not interviewing him because he was still in the ring. He said Hurricane would continue to pay for what he did to Katie. He said he had a battle royal to get ready for and win...

The Bella Twins came out to handle the ring announcing duties...

2. Yoshi Tatsu defeated Zack Ryder in 6:19. The beginning of the match was full of rest holds. Yoshi scored a nearfall with a dragon roll. Zack slowed the match down again and there was an extended reverse chin lock.

[Q3] Yoshi fought back with a rolling elbow and followed up with a series of kicks. He hit running knees on Ryder in the corner and then scored a nearfall with a top rope hurricarana. Ryder came back with a leg lariat for a two count. Yoshi countered a suplex attempted with a kick to the head for the three count...

Twill’s Two Cents: The match had a couple of entertaining moments, but it was awfully slow for these two men in a six minute match. I was surprised to see Ryder lose cleanly after winning a squash match last week. By the way, does Yoshi’s music sound like theme music from the original Nintendo when you finished a game?

A graphic for the battle royal was shown... [C]

A commercial for an encore presentation of Breaking Point aired focusing on John Cena defeating Randy Orton. Josh and Matt mentioned the two matches already booked for the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view...

Shelton Benjamin, Vladimir Kozlov, Ezekiel Jackson, Tommy Dreamer, Goldust, Tyler Reks, and Sheamus made their entrances for the battle royal... [C]

[Q4] Back from commercial, Yoshi Tatsu, Paul Burchill, and Zack Ryder made their entrances...

3. Zack Ryder won a battle royal to become the number one contender for Christian’s ECW Championship in 15:06. Striker picked Sheamus to win the match, but then threw out a bunch of names. I’d love to see Ryder. Burchill was the first man eliminated when Shelton threw him out. Dreamer went over the top but did not touch the floor. Kozlov and Jackson did not work together.

Typical battle royal action took place. Nobody else was eliminated. Shelton Benjamin was thrown over the top, but he teetered before pulling himself back into the ring. Tyler Reks also teased getting thrown out. Jackson and Kozlov bumped each other and stared each other down as the show went to commercial... [C]

Back from commercial, Kozlov was shown eliminating Tyler Reks and Jackson eliminating Yoshi Tatsu during the break. Shelton eliminated Sheamus. Jackson threw out Shelton, but he held on. Shelton caught Jackson with a leg scissors. Dreamer pushed Jackson out and Sheamus eliminated Shelton.

[Overrun] Kozlov, Dreamer, Goldust, and Ryder were the last four men in the match. I still think Regal is going to appear here. Goldust almost eliminated Ryder, but Ryder eliminated him instead. The crowd was solidly behind Goldust. Dreamer eliminated Kozlov and Ryder immediately dumped out Dreamer to win the match...

Twill’s Two Cents: I love it. I wanted to see him get the win although I would not have put money on it. Remember, Ryder had a great match with Christian several weeks back. The win for Ryder instantly puts him and Yoshi Tatsu over since Yoshi beat Ryder earlier in the night. I am really pleased with Ryder winning this match.
