9/14 Hermanstyne's Live WWE Raw Coverage: Trish Stratus as the guest host, Ted Dibiase vs. Shawn Michaels, John Cena as the new WWE champion, Batista’s future with the WWE
Marvin Hermanstyne Sep 14, 2009 - 08:00 PM |
|
WWE Raw on USA Network
Live in Toronto, Canada
[Q1] Video of the WWE title match was shown from last night and the opening montage was shown.
Mind of Marv: I’m filling in for Powell because he wants to drink beer, enjoy football and gloat about his Vikings. Don’t blame the guy…
Lillian Garcia introduced Batista which he received a mixed reaction from the Toronto crowd. Video was shown of the footage of Legacy destroying Batista’s arm from back in June. Dave said before he makes his announcement, he thanked the fans. He said it’s been a rough year with injuries and this is not how he wanted to go out, but he has to say goodbye. There was a big Batista chant amongst the crowd. He said it was rumors about his retirement and Randy Orton came out to interrupt Dave.
Orton said he is not very happy about losing the WWE title last night. He said what cheers him up is the fact that Dave is retiring and he is going out a whiner. Orton said save the going away speech because no one cares. He said he is not retiring because of his health; he is retiring because of him. He mentioned that way how he put him on the self twice and he should hang his head and cry. Dave smirked and Orton objected because he should feel sorry on how he ruined his life. Dave said he knows two things about Orton that he is predictable and he doesn’t know him very well.
He beat on Orton and said that he will not retire, but he will move to Smackdown. Also, he asked Trish for one more match on RAW and he will face Orton in a No Holds Barred match.
HBK vs. Ted Dibiase is later on tonight. [C]
Mind of Marv: Wow…nice show we have ahead of us. I knew one or both of the scenarios would occur. Batista moving to SD is not problem because they need babyfaces (badly) and getting his revenge on Orton was predictable. This match should be interesting.
[Q2] Video was shown of Batista suckering Orton just moments ago. Lillian Garcia introduced the fine ass Trish Stratus. Trish said it’s good to be in the WWE home and said she will be a great host. She put over Bob Barker and said her favorite part was when he almost made Jericho cry. She said she knows RAW and she knows what the fans want, she said that Orton is owed a rematch so she said at Orton will face Cena in a Hell in a Cell match. She has “Stratusfaction” and we will see plenty of her tonight and Kofi Kingston came out. Primo debuted some new music.
1. Jack Swagger and The Miz defeated United States Champion Kofi Kingston and Primo in 2:53. Primo and Miz started the matchup. The heels took early control of the matchup. Swagger applied a submission to Primo to work on his back. Miz got a cheap shot on Primo and Swagger hit a nasty Irish Whip to Primo. Kofi got in the match and hit clotheslines and dropkicks to Swagger. Kofi went for the Boom Drop but Miz interfered. Kofi got the advantage, but Miz took the US title and distracted Kofi. Swagger hit the gut wrench power bomb to score the quick win.
HBK and Dibiase is later tonight…[C]
Mind of Marv: Huh? Why the quick finish? If they are going to take the belt of Kofi, why didn’t they do it last night? Instead we get a mind games angle from the Miz, ugh.
[Q3] Mickie James came to ringside for commentary. Lillian said the next match was for number one contendership for the Diva’s title.
2. Alicia Fox defeated Gail Kim in 3:15. Kim got the early offense in the match but Fox countered with a tilt-o-whirl backbreaker. Fox hit a nice suplex for a nearfall and applied a body scissors to Kim. Fox missed the scissors kick and Kim countered with punches and a clotheslines. Kim hit a crossbody for a nearfall. Kim missed a dropkick and Fox hit the axe kick to get the upset win. [C]
Mind of Marv: Forgettable match with Kim jobbing to Fox? This has to be punishment for her sloppy matches of late. As for Mickie, I love her but stay away from commentary, please.
Video was shown of Orton’s and Batista’s history from last year was shown. Backstage, Trish was lighting a candle and Beth Phoenix interrupted her. Beth bitched then Jericho interrupted and Trish started to mock Jericho about being so tense. Beth put over Jericho and ripped Trish about her studio and her retiring because she didn’t want to face Beth.
Trish said that she will get a partner and will face Jericho and Beth tonight. Jericho came back and said he will face Bob Barker anytime, anywhere.
Mind of Marv: Funny segment and if Trish was active, this would be one hellauva match against Beth Phoenix. I’ll pay for that... but I have a feeling her partner will be Cena.
[Q4] Footage was shown of the DX and Legacy submission match. HBK and Dibiase match is next. [C]
Cody mocked Hunter with the “Are You Ready?” chant. He said that they didn’t beat DX, they made them submit but tap out. Cody mentioned that the Rock, Stone Cold, Undertaker, The McMahons and Rated RKO never made DX tap. They are the only ones that made them tap. Ted said it’s historic and what they did was torture and they had no choice but to give up. He said last night was the beginning and they will not stop until DX is off of Raw. They said they are not the offspring of Dusty Rhodes and The Million Dollar Man, but they are the father’s of Legacy.
Mind of Marv: Good promos from Legacy. It’s about time they get some airtime to shine and gloat about their victory. DX is putting these guys over and its about time the Raw brand is taking the time to do so like SD and ECW.
[Q5] 3. Shawn Michaels defeated Ted Dibiase by DQ in 9:10. . Ted started aggressive with blows to Shawn’s head. Shawn hit a chop and a swinging neckbreaker to Ted. Ted hit a powerslam to Shawn. The crowd was chanting “You Screwed Bret”. Ted controlled the match and Shawn rolled out of the ring. Cody wanted to interfere but Hunter was watching like a hawk. Ted hit a suplex to Shawn and hit two Million Dollar Punches for a nearfall. Ted applied a headlock but Shawn countered with a punch. Ted hit a standing dropkick to Shawn for a nearfall.
Ted applied a modified sleeper to Shawn and Shawn countered with more chops. Shawn went for the figure four but Ted raked Shawn’s eyes while the referee was distracted. Ted struck Shawn while Shawn was selling an eye injury. Shawn came back with a crazy right hand. Ted applied the Million Dollar Dream but Shawn countered out of the move. Ted went for a piledriver but Shawn threw him out of the ring. Shawn hit two atomic drops and some more chops. Shawn hit some right hands and went to the top of the ropes and hit the elbow to Ted’s heart. Shawn went for Sweet Chin Music but Cody pulled him off.
DX and Legacy started to brawl ringside and in the crowd. The cameraman was knocked down. [C]
Mind of Marv: Wow… the match was OK, but the brawl brought back some Attitude Era memories. Poor cameraman, he must’ve been a plant because of the way it went to commercial.
[Q6] Video was shown of the brawl moments ago and video of Chavo vs. Bourne was shown from last week. Cole joked about Chavo being 0-75 against Hornswoggle.
Mind of Marv: I’m going to sue Michael Cole for using my analogies, now because he said them on the air, they now officially suck.
4. Hornswoggle and Evan Bourne defeated Chavo Guerrero and Carlito (with Rosa Mendes) in 4:00. Horny and Carlito started the match. Bourne had early offense, but Chavo attacked. Horny hit Chavo in his legs. The heels worked on Bourne while Rosa cheered. Bourne came back for a second but the heels cornered him. Chavo applied a cobra clutch to Bourne and kicked him in the midsection. Bourne came back with clotheslines and knocked Carlito out of the ring.
Bourne tagged Horny was chewing the apple and Chavo tried to knock him down, but Horny spit the apple in Chavo’s face and hit the Tadpole Splash to get another win. Chavo started to whine and says he gives up facing Hornswoggle.
Mind of Marv: Finally, this stupid comedy act ends. Move Chavo to ECW so he can work with the young guys because he really does not deserve the embarrassment every single week.
Video was shown of the steel cage match between Orton and Batista at Extreme Rules. The No Holds Barred match is later tonight. [C]
[Q7] Josh Matthews interviewed John Cena. Cena got about 70/30 (boos to cheers) Cena talked about Orton saying that that WWE title was his life but he literally gave it away. He said that he made a promise to the WWE Universe that he will not quit. He mentioned that every time he said no, it was more pain. He said that he gave them his word and thanks to Trish, they have a rematch to see Orton and himself in a Hell in a Cell match. He mentioned that Orton is thinking that the WWE title reign is a 3 week rent. He said at HIAC, he will see a more brutal side of him and he will promise that the Champ is here!
Mind of Marv: Generic and typical Cena promo. Nothing else to really say but we seen this before 1000s of time.
DX and Legacy is the first match at HIAC. Trish Stratus came out her match to a moderate ovation. MVP is Trish’s partner. He is sleeveless because has a fresh tattoo on his forearm. [C]
5. Trish Stratus, Mark Henry and MVP defeated Unified Tag Champions JeriShow and Beth Phoenix in 9:30 . Trish and Beth started the matchup and Beth got the early advantage. Beth hit a scoop slam and Trish countered with punches and chops. The 3rd chop she licked her hand to chop Beth. Jericho and MVP fought outside of the ring. Big Show got involved and the match was thrown out. Mark Henry came out for the save and Trish said it was her show and made the match a six person tag match. [C]
[Q8] The show returned in progress with Show and MVP in the ring. Jericho got back in the match and kicked MVP in the gut. Jericho strutted around the ring and head butted MVP. MVP came back with a rollup for nearfall and hit a clothesline. Jericho got a cheap shot on Henry and continued to work on MVP. MVP tossed Jericho and worked on him.
But Jericho got a blind tag to Beth and Beth started to taunt MVP. MVP dragged Beth to Trish and Trish got on the attack. Trish and MVP hit a double Ballin’ elbow to Beth. Big Show tripped Trish and Big Show got tackled by Mark Henry. Beth went for the cover but Trish kicked out. Trish hit the Stratusfaction on Beth to win the match.
Mind of Marv: Good to see they want to elevate this feud with JeriShow and MVP/Henry. Trish had ring rust, but you can’t blame her. She still is better than most of the roster of Divas. I think JeriShow drops the titles at HIAC or before the Survivor Series because Jericho has some good feuds on Smackdown. But Raw needs him badly so I don’t know what they want to do with these guys.
Footage of the Legacy attack was shown from three months ago. [C]
Cedric the Entertainer will be the guest host for next week’s Raw.
Mind of Marv: If he brings the Comic View comedy from back in the 90s, this should be an interesting show. If this is Johnson Family Vacation comedy it will suck, it’s your call readers.
[Overrun] 6. Batista defeated Randy Orton in a No Holds Barred match in 5:00. Both guys brawled outside of the ring. Orton went for the DDT on the ropes but Batista countered. Orton came back with uppercuts. Batista hit a clothesline to Orton and beat on him outside of the ring. Orton came back with a backbreaker to Batista and stomped him. He hit the knee to the temple and grabbed a chair but Batista speared him. Batista threw Orton towards the announcers and dropped him on the security rail.
Batista continued the assault by throwing Orton into the ring steps. Batista threw him in the ring and Orton went for the RKO but Batista slammed him. Orton tried to run off but Cena came out and clotheslined him. Batista hit a spinebuster and a Batista Bomb to end the match.
Mind of Marv: Predictable finish and I don’t understand why Orton is booked to look so weak. He beats the hell out of Cena then immediately taps last night and loses the title. Tonight, it was basically a Batista squash match with assistance from Cena. I don’t understand, but I lose interest in Orton by the week. But anyway, good Raw (and this is coming from me) and this show gets a B-.
Powell will wake up from his hangover with the Raw Hitlist available tomorrow and I will be back for Smackdown Friday night. What you think of the show? Email me @ mr.hermanstyne@gmail.com with questions or comments.
