9/8 Twilling's WWE "ECW on Syfy" Live Coverage: Christian and Tommy Dreamer vs. Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov, Hurricane Helms vs. Paul Burchill
By Rich Twilling Sep 8, 2009 - 09:00 PM

WWE “ECW on Syfy”
Taped earlier tonight in Rockford Il

[Q1] The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the stage. Josh Matthews and Matt Striker welcomed us to the show. Striker plugged tonight’s main event of Christian and Tommy Dreamer vs. Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov...

1. Hurricane Helms defeated Paul Burchill (with Katie Lea) in 12:18. Hurricane hit a springboard high cross body for the first nearfall. He locked in an Octopus but Burchill powered out with a backbreaker. Burchill followed up with running double knee strikes (Elijah Express). He methodically dominated the match.

Hurricane pulled down the top rope as Burchill charged at him and Burchill tumbled to the floor. Hurricane followed with a high cross body. Burchill hit a double Pele kick and both men tried to recover on the floor... [C]

Back from commercial, Burchill had the advantage with a reverse chin lock. He hit the ringpost when charging at Helms in the corner, but Helms moved. Helms went to the top and hit a high cross body for a two count. Burchill scored a two count after a powerslam from the top rope.

[Q2] Hurricane hit a hurricarana for a two count. He went for the Shining Wizard but he missed. Katie Lea jumped up on the apron. Hurricane whipped Burchill into Katie and hit the Eye of the Hurricane for the win...

Twill’s Two Cents: Fun match that started slowly and built to the hot finish. Helms looks like he is fully back because he took some serious bumps. I want to see Burchill get pushed, but at least he was on television.

Another new interview girl, Savannah, interviewed Tommy Dreamer and Christian. They said Regal and his crew could not take over ECW. Christian vowed to stand up and fight... [C]

Did you know? More people watched ECW last Tuesday than any show on ESPN and a couple of other channels...

2. Sheamus and Shelton Benjamin defeated Goldust and Yoshi Tatsu in 4:12. Goldust and the gold standard started the match. Have your fun with that one readers. Fast paced action early with a lot of counters and neither man really landing anything. Yoshi tagged in and hit Sheamus with a series of kicks.

Shelton distracted Yoshi and Sheamus took advantage of the bout. Yoshi fought back when Shelton tagged in. Shelton would not let Yoshi make the tag. Goldust finally made the tag and cleaned house. Sheamus hit a move on Goldust; Shelton made a blind tag and scored the pin...

[Q3] After the match, Sheamus and Shelton argued over the blind tag. Sheamus attacked Shelton and they engaged in a pull apart brawl. Sheamus was getting cheered at first but Shelton ended up getting a babyface reaction...

Twill’s Two Cents: Obviously this was a match to set up a Shelton vs. Sheamus feud and that works for me. Sheamus had a very nice program with Goldust, so it makes sense for him to move onto something new. I am looking forward to seeing this feud unfold.

The announcers hyped the main event... [C]

3. Zack Ryder defeated Rory Fargo in 1:21. Ryder dominated the match with kicks to the head before hitting the Zack Attack for the win...

Twill’s Two Cents: Nice to see Ryder back in the win column.

Matthews and Striker ran down the card for Breaking Point...

Backstage, Tyler Reks was kissing Tiffany’s ass. William Regal, Big Zeke, and Kozlov approached Tiffany. Regal wanted to know why she allowed the attack with kendo sticks on his men. She said what’s fair is fair. Regal promised to win the belt on Sunday... [C]

[Q4] Footage was shown of Undertaker returning at SummerSlam and a commercial for Breaking Point played...

4. Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov (with William Regal) defeated Christian and Tommy Dreamer in 15:43. Christian and Kozlov started the match. Kozlov hit an impressive running shoulder block off an Irish whip. Christian punched Kozlov and both men made tags. Christian hit a high cross body onto Zeke on the floor, but he was caught. Dreamer then jumped onto Christian and all three men tumbled to the floor... [C]

Back from commercial, Dreamer and Christian hit a double Russian leg sweep on Jackson. Kozlov and Jackson traded hitting shoulder blocks on Dreamer. Kozlov’s offense actually looked more powerful than Jackson’s. Kozlov hit a nice belly to belly suplex for a two count.

Dreamer came back with a boot to Kozlov’s jaw followed by a second rope closeline. Christian tagged in to absolutely no reaction. He could not knock Kozlov off his feet until he hit a missile dropkick. Kozlov and Jackson took over and work on Christian in their corner.

[Overrun] Zeke worked on Christian’s back as Regal looked on approvingly. Christian was now the one getting beat down trying to make a tag. Dreamer and Jackson tagged in. Dreamer hit a high cross body and bulldog for a two count. Dreamer hit a frogsplash and Kozlov broke up the pinfall attempt. Christian and Kozlov fought to the floor. Zeke hit the super Rock Bottom for the win...

Twill’s Two Cents: Hmmm, that was basically a fifteen minute squash. Taking a look at it, the heels dominated and kept the pace slow, while the babyfaces fought back for short spurts. This did a nice job of putting over Regal and his faction. These three are being booked better than the other two factions on Raw and Smackdown.

After the match, Regal locked in the Regal stretch on Dreamer and kneed Christian in the head. They celebrated in the ring...
