9/3 Shore's WWE Superstars Live Coverage: Chris Masters vs. Evan Bourne, William Regal vs. Tyler Reks, and Cryme Tyme and Eve vs. The Hart Dynasty
Chris Shore Sep 3, 2009 - 07:00 PM |
|
Superstars on WGN America
Taped in Detroit, Mich. and Cleveland, Ohio.
[Q1]The opening video aired, followed by the pyro, and Michael “Cole Hearted Snake” and Jerry “The King” Lawler welcomed us to Superstars. They hyped the tag team main event…Evan Bourne made his ring entrance, followed by Chris Masters…
1. Evan Bourne defeated Chris Masters at 11:48. Masters shoved Bourne in the face to start. Bourne kicked him in response. Master hit a knee lift and worked strikes on Bourne. Bourne reversed a hip toss and hit a drop toe hold. Masters hit a punch and retook control. He worked power and strikes on Bourne. Masters tossed Bourne over the top, but Bourne landed on his feet and hit a springboard missile dropkick. Masters rolled out of the ring before the cover. He slugged Bourne getting back in the ring to take control.
Masters worked the back with slams and elbow strikes. Masters hit a backbreaker across the knee and stretched Bourne out. Bourne fought out and hit a flying head scissors. He went to the top, but Masters grabbed him in a gorilla press. He dropped Bourne down into another backbreaker across the knee. Bourne rolled to the floor and recovered into the break…[C]
Back at 7:50, Masters had Bourne in a torture rack. Bourne slipped out into a sunset flip start. Masters lifted Bourne with a Punjabi Plunge type lift and tossed Bourne into the corner. Masters went back to working on the back. He lifted Bourne into another modified torture rack. Bourne elbowed Masters until he backed into the ropes, but Masters dropped him and hit a clothesline. Masters covered but Bourne hook an inside cradle for two.
Bourne recovered immediately and went on offense. He hit a flying head scissors and a flying elbow for two. Bourne locked in a front head lock. Masters drove him back into the corner. Bourne hit a kick as Masters ran in and went to the top. He came off for a cross body block. Masters caught him and tried to drop him into a Masterlock. Bourne slipped out and kicked Masters in the face. He recovered in the corner and Masters charged. Bourne moved and Masters went through the ropes to the pole. Bourne hit a kick to the face, followed by Air-Bourne for the win. Post match, a video recapped the end of the match…Backstage, William Regal and company were shown heading towards the ring…[C]
Shore’s Slant: So they’re going to try and make Bourne on Superstars by having him work a 10 minute sleeper followed by a minute and a half squash? Ugh. Bourne deserves better than this.
[Q2]Back from commercial, William Regal and his hommies made their ring entrance as Josh Matthews and Matt Striker took over on commentary. Tyler Reks was out next…
2. William Regal (w/Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov) defeated Tyler Reks at 4:42. Regal twisted the arm to start. Reks reversed it and Regal backed him into the corner and punched him. Reks reversed w whip and strong whipped Regal. He ducked a clotheline attempt and hit a body slam. He followed with a suplex for one. Regal got a cheap shot in and took control, working his strikes and odd submission move offense.
Regal tried for something and Reks reversed it into a backslide for one. Regal slithered out right into a submission hold. Cool. Regal tossed Reks to the apron. Reks drove a shoulder into Regal and went for a springboard cross body. Regal ducked and Reks hit the mat. When Reks stood up, Regal hit the knee trembler for the win. Post match, the big guys hit their finishers on Reks. Regal told Reks it was a warning to everyone in ECW…The announce team hyped the tag main event…
Shore’s Slant: Squash that I’m sure was good for Reks but left me in tears. I hate Reks and this match felt like a throwaway for ECW. I know Regal is the number one contender, but still. It just felt unnecessary.
[C][Q3]Back from commercial, a JeriShow promo video aired…Ringside, Jim Ross and Todd Grisham took over announcing duties. They introed the Raw Rebound video that covered Dusty’s guest host edition…The announce team hyped Cena/Orton at Breaking Point and announced DX vs. Legacy in a tag team submissions count anywhere match…Cryme Tyme made their ring entrance with Eve…[C]
Back from commercial, The Harts made their entrance…
3. The Hart Dynasty defeated Cryme Tyme and Eve at 13:27. JTG and Kidd started. Before they locked up, Kidd tagged in Smith. They locked up and Smith pushed JTG away. Another lock up led to a hammer lock by JTG. Smith reversed, but JTG hip tossed out. JTG charged at Smith and went for a cross body, but Smith caught him and slammed him. JTG reversed a whip to the corner and hit a bulldog type move for two. He tagged in Shad who hit Smith one time and he tagged in Natalya.
[Q4]Natalya grabbed Eve in a waist lock and scored a takedown. She whipped Eve to the corner and charged in. Eve got the feet up, but Natalya recovered with a slam when Eve ran out. Natalya locked in an abdominal stretch. Eve hip tossed out and Natalya tagged in Kidd. Shad came in and Kidd hit a low dropkick. He worked strikes on the legs, but Shad popped up into a clothesline. He tagged in JTG and whipped Kidd. When Kidd bounced off, Shad tossed JTG onto him. JTG covered for two. Kidd rolled from the ring and JTG gave chase. Kidd slid back in and tagged Smith. JTG ran past Smith and got blasted from behind. Smith tossed him to the floor and followed him out…[C]
Back at 9:26, Smith had a submission hold on JTG. He tagged Kidd in and they worked the leg. JTG teased the hot tag as Kidd and Smith tagged in and out. He finally hit a drop toe hold on Kidd and tagged in Shad. Shad cleaned house and hit a shoulder tackle for two. Shad hit the Magnificent, but Smith tagged Natalya at the same time. The women came in and Eve took the early control. She hit a front flip onto Natalya and covered. Kidd pulled her off. The men took each other out and Eve hit her jumping lariat kick on Natalya. She tried for her tumbling splash, but Natalya moved. Eve stood and Natalya hit her spinning clothesline for the win. Post match a video recapped the end of the match…[C]
Shore’s Slant: Good match that really showcased what can be right with tag team wrestling. Both sets of men are solid in the ring and Eve is athletic enough that Natty can carry her. I like the Hart’s winning here too. I would rather have seen one of the Hart men go over clean as Cryme Tyme were the most recent contenders for the tag titles, but I’ll take what I can get I guess. An average show for Superstars. The last few weeks have spoiled me so I’ll give this show a break…but they better bring it again next week. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you tomorrow night for Smackdown and the return of the Undertaker.
