8/25 Shore's WWE ECW Live Coverage: How will Christian respond after the beating he received from William Regal, Ezekiel Jackson, and Vladimir Kozlov?
Chris Shore Aug 25, 2009 - 09:00 PM |
|
ECW on SyFy
Recorded Earlier from Phoenix, Ariz.
[Q1]A video package recapped the brief title match and subsequent beat down on Christian…
Shore’s Slant: It’s Twilling’s Birthday today and his gift to all of you is to take the night off and let you enjoy a proper ECW coverage. What a swell guy!
The opening video aired, followed by the pyro, and Josh Matthews and Matt Striker welcomed us to ECW…Regal’s music hit and he, Big Zeke, and Kozlov made their way to the ring. Regal cut a promo on his alliance with Zeke and Kozlov. He said the fans thought Zeke and Kozlov were on a collision course, but they underestimated his ability to join those forces together. He said Christian’s time was running out.
Christian’s music hit and he came to the ramp. He said the only thing that would reach zero was the number of people watching if Regal kept talking. Christian said he had already beat Regal in an ECW title match that was a record breaking eight seconds long. Christian kept saying eight seconds over and over as Regal tried to talk over him. Regal said Christian better give him a rematch or they would make Christian’s life hell. Christian called him Bill and Regal said Bill was a name for commoners, he should call him William.
Christian said, “Whatever Bill.” He said he wanted to move on to challengers who could last longer than eight seconds. Tiffany’s music hit and she came to the stage. She said Christian did take advantage of Regal at SummerSlam, but Regal needed to earn his second chance. She booked them in a match tonight and if Regal wins, he gets his title shot…A video package hyped Goldust vs. Sheamus for next…[C]
Shore’s Slant: God I want to like this feud, but that match last night makes Regal look so bad, even if it was borderline cheating. Of course, it could be because he was standing in between two giant heat black holes. Sheamus vs. Goldust VXIV is next. Oh boy.
Back from commercial, the WM 25 on NBC hype video played…Back ringside, Sheamus made his ring entrance, followed by Goldust…
1. Sheamus and Goldust fought to a double countout at 3:56. Sheamus tossed Goldust to start and then slapped him twice. Goldust hit a Thesz press and pounded Sheamus. He hit a back clothesline for one. Shaemus punched back into control and continued to work strikes.
[Q2]Sheamus slammed Goldust to the mat and locked in a rest hold. Goldust made his feet and workled his offense. He hit a powerslam for two, followed by the Spotlighter for a very near fall. Sheamus rolled to the floor and when Goldust went to check on him, Shaemus drug him to the floor. The two men brawled on the floor until the ref counted ten. Goldust whipped Sheamus to the stairs just before the count out and he yelled at the ref after the decision…The announce team hyped the main event…[C]
Shore’s Slant: I don’t know if doing this on a Tuesday is messing with me or what, but so far I just want to go to bed. The opening segment was boring and so was this match. I’m trying not to be negative, I really am. I hope the main event is the match we thought we would get Sunday night.
Back from commercial, the Bella’s begged Shelton to do his Louis Armstrong. Shelton obliged with a little “What a Wonderful World.” Ryder came up and interrupted. He tried to play Benjamin. Benjamin sent the girls away and he and Woo, Woo, Woo argued. Tiffany came up and told Ryder to get ready for his tag match against Reks and Tatsu. Ryder asked who his partner was and Tiffany told him Benjamin. Benjamin slapped Ryder and told him not to forget his product…
A video recapped the Hurricane/Burchill match from last week. The announce team announced that they would have a rematch on Superstars. They tossed it back to Courtney Taylor who had Paul and Katie Lea. He asked her if she was going to dress up like Wonder Woman. He said for her not to insult his intelligence by calling Helms the Hurricane. He said he would get his revenge on Superstars…Regal and posse where shown backstage game planning…
[Q3][C]Back from commercial, Shelton Benjamin made his entrance, followed by Ryder. They argued in the ring as Reks and Tatsu made their entrance together. A video showed an interview with Reks and Tatsu and it was every bit the train wreck it sounds…
Tyler Reks and Yoshi Tatsu defeated Shelton Benjamin and Zack Ryder at 3:55 Reks and Benjamin started out. Benjamin tried to touch fists with Reks but he walked away. Reks and Benjamin worked quick mat offense on each other. Reks reversed a slingshot attempt into a cross body for two. Benjamin punched Reks and tried to tag in Ryder, but he acted like he didn’t see Benjamin. They argued and Reks rolled up Benjamin for one. Benjamin reversed a whip and hit a Samoan slam. Reks tagged himself in and went to work on Reks.
Ryder locked in a rest hold that Reks fought out of. Ryder got a tag to Benjamin who blocked Reks for a moment. Reks kicked him and made the hot tag. Tatsu worked fast offense on Benjamin. Benjamin tried for a tag but Ryder ignored him again. Benjamin drug Ryder into the ring. Ryder pushed Tatsu into Benjamin, sending Benjamin to the floor. Ryder spun Tatsu around, but Tatsu kicked him in the head for the win. Post match, Benjamin hit Pay Dirt on Ryder and looked pissed…The announce team hyped the main event…[C]
Shore’s Slant: That was OK. Suspect ending, but I like the feud between....no, that’s a lie. I hate Ryder. I hate his gimmick, and not like I hate a heel. I cannot stand his character. If you like him, more power to you, but I would not care to ever see his current gimmick again.
[Q4]Back from commercial, a video package recapped the WWE in LA for SummerSlam…Back ringside, Regal and crew made their entrance. Christian came out alone. Well now that doesn’t seem fair…
3. William Regal (w/Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson) defeated Christian at 13:57. A long collar and elbow led to a Christian Kill Switch attempt that Regal escaped. The next lock up, Christian hooked a side headlock. Regal broke it twice and Christian went back to it. After the third break, Christian hit a snap mare and kicked Regal in the back. Regal rolled to the floor and Christian thought about doing a plancha, but Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber blocked Rewgal from the attack. Regal taunted Christian behind their backs as the ref told them to back away…[C]
Back at 6:49, Regal had an armbar locked in. A video showed Regal tossing Christian to the floor during the break. Christian broke free and hit the ropes, but Regal hit an exploder suplex for two. Regal went to the floor and Christian came out on the apron. Regal flipped Christian off and quickly crawled back in the ring. Christian made it back at nine. Regal punched Christian to the ground and covered for one.
[Overrun]Regal locked in a resthold. Christian made his feet quickly, but Regal punched Christian. He set Christian on the top rope, but Christian started throwing punches. He hopped up and hit a crossbody for two. He worked strikes on Regal and then hit back to back missile dropkicks for two. Regal tossed Christian, but he hit Regal coming back in, ran him to the corner and hit a tornado DDT for two. Regal hit an elbow strike and covered for two.
Christian tossed Regal to the floor and followed. He rolled Regal back in and when the ref turned his back, he popped Kozlov in the mouth and jumped back in the ring. Zeke hit the apron on the otherside of the ring and complained to the ref. Christian hooked Regal for the Kill Switch, but Regal pushed him away and Kozlov hit the battering ram on Christian. Christian turned around and Regal hit the knee trembler for the win. Post match, a video recapped the match and the heels stood over Christian to end the show…
Shore’s Slant: That was pretty good. A slow start with a ton of rest holds that paid off well in the end. I like Regal as a stable boss. He can teach all the new guys, not just the ones he is the ring with. Christian should be on Smackdown. We could use one more face and he would fit in so well there. But, I guess rather a big fish in a small pond type of thing. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you Thursday for Superstars.
Oh, and Happy Birthday to the most awesome person I know. Hell no, not Twilling. My wife. Love you baby!
