8/11 Twilling's WWE "ECW on Syfy" Live Coverage: ECW Champion Christian appears on the Abraham Washington Show, who will be next in line to challenge Christian for the belt?

WWE “ECW on Syfy”
Live from Edmonton, Alberta
[Q1] Footage aired of last week’s ECW Championship match between Christian and Tommy Dreamer. Nice video package here that really made the match, and Christian, look like a million bucks...
The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the stage. Josh Matthews and Matt Striker welcomed us to the show. Striker plugged Christian on the Abraham Washington Show. Zack Ryder made his ring entrance to crickets. Footage was shown of last week’s Abraham Washington Show where Ryder attacked Shelton after a singing contest...
1. Shelton Benjamin defeated Zack Ryder in 2:56. Zack hit a nice middle rope missile dropkick, followed by a running boot for a two count. Crowd was firmly behind Benjamin in the ring. Shelton fought back and hit a German suplex with a bridge for a nearfall. Ryder battled back and scored a nearfall after a leaping leg lariat. Benjamin turned it around yet again and hit a powerbomb into the turnbuckles, followed by Paydirt for the win...
Twill’s Two Cents: Rapid fire but fun match. It is hard to gauge Benjamin’s babyface reaction being a Canada thing or evidence he is getting over as a babyface.
Backstage, Gregory Helms tried to interview Paul Burchill. Burchill said he knew Helms was the Hurricane. Helms played dumb and said he was just doing his job. Burchill sucker punched Helms and hit him with a few boots... [C]
Did you know? WWE will create more original hours of programming this year than HBO and Showtime combined...
[Q2] 2. Vladimir Kozlov defeated Kevin Brooks in 1:08. I’m pretty sure Kozlov received a “rip his head off” chant. Kozlov dominated and won with his finisher...
Ezekiel Jackson came out to the ring. This time, they stared at each other before and after they both hit their finishers on poor Mr. Brooks...
Twill’s Two Cents: More of the same and I would like to see some progression in what has been an intriguing storyline.
Striker informed us of tonight’s main event, Tommy Dreamer vs. William Regal. He called it Dreamer’s road back to the ECW Championship... [C]
Footage aired of last night’s horrible DX skits with Triple H and Shawn Michaels. At least the last segment was the best one and we get to see DX again at SummerSlam...
The Bella Twins came out to be the guest announcers. A graphic aired reminding the viewers Triple H will appear on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” The Bellas did not mess up once during their introductions, so already they are better than Lilian Garcia...
3. Yoshi Tatsu defeated Paul Burchill (with Katie Lea) by disqualification in 2:13. The crowd was loud for Yoshi. Back and forth action until Katie hit Yoshi in the back with a belt, causing the disqualification. After the match, Burchill attacked Tatsu. The Hurricane’s music hit and he came out and hit a high cross body on Burchill. He and Yoshi shook hands... [C]
Twill’s Two Cents: I hope Helms is able to work again because he is a hell of a performer and could really breathe some life into the Tuesday night show. This match itself was about Hurricane and Burchill but Yoshi looked good.
[Q3] Footage was shown of Hurricane’s return. Backstage, Katie Lea and Paul Burchill showed their disgust to Tiffany, who stood right up to them. She said she would talk to Hurricane and not accept ultimatums from anyone...
4. Tyler Reks defeated Tom James in 1:35. Reks dominated and won the match with the springboard missile dropkick. The crowd was not into him at all...
Twill’s Two Cents: Two jobber matches on the same show? This is like old school WWF Superstars. Is anyone else concerned about Reks’ finisher? It would be so easy for him to lose his balance during the springboard.
Abraham Washington was shown walking backstage and he comically approached everyone and shook their hand... [C]
[Q4] Abraham Washington came out to host his show. He scored the cheap pop by positively mentioning Edmonton. He said he felt unsafe in Canada because the national sport was “a bunch of white men hitting a black object with sticks.” Wow. That was horrible.
Washington wished Hulk Hogan a happy birthday. He introduced Christian, who came out to a huge pop. Christian said he was glad to be back on the Arsenio Hall Show. Washington laughed it off and introduced the clip that was shown earlier of the match between Christian and Dreamer.
Abraham said the clip was the most tragic thing he had ever seen, but he wasn’t talking about the match, he was talking about Christian’s face. He asked if Dreamer and Christian were still friends and Christian said yes. He said if Washington said anything bad about him or Dreamer again, his next guest would have to be a dentist because he would knock out all of his teeth.
Washington recovered from the verbal onslaught and said he had a huge scoop. He introduced the new number one contender to Christian’s championship, William Regal. Regal approached Christian with a microphone and told him if Christian wanted to see extreme, he should see what he does to his friend, Tommy Dreamer... [C]
Twill’s Two Cents: I like Regal as the number one contender, but would it have killed them to have Regal earn it? By the way, Washington is that rare guy you want to see get beat up on television and be off of television all together. Most people are one or the other.
[Overrun] 5. William Regal defeated Tommy Dreamer in 5:09. Dreamer’s arm was wrapped because he was hit with a crutch last week and a screw penetrated his triceps. Ouch. Dreamer enjoyed an advantage on the floor, but Regal was able to get Dreamer back into the ring and work on his arm. They exchanged right hands and Dreamer hit his tree of woe spot.
Dreamer hit a powerslam and did not hook the leg nearest to the rope, so Regal was able to get it up. Regal slithered out of the ring and draped Dreamer’s arm across the top rope. He followed with the running knee for the win. After the match, he locked in the Regal stretch. Christian made the save...
Twill’s Two Cents: Interesting turn of events to have Regal named the number one contender. They could have at least made tonight’s main event with that stipulation. Regal vs. Christian should be a great, old school feud. Interesting show tonight but there was not anything overly memorable.
