WWE Superstars on WGN America
Taped in Mohegan Sun, CT, and Long Island, NY
[Q1]
The opening video played and Santino Marella made his entrance, followed by Chris Masters.
1. Chris Masters defeated Santino Marella in 5:00. A loud "Santino" chant was heard. Santino played around with several pretend kicks, but Masters quickly took control. He hit a stiff clothesline and then followed it up with some quick elbow drops. He then held a rest hold for a while.
Santino got out and tried to apply the Masterlock, but Masters decided he wasn't taking it. He slapped Santino around a few times, before Santino decided he wasn't taking it any more and punched Masters in the face. He ducked a punch from Masters and connected with an elbow, but missed a diving saluting headbutt, and Masters locked in the Masterlock and the ref called for the bell.
Joe's Judgment: Short and painless. Face Santino isn't as funny as heel Santino, and I'm not a Masters fan at all. Still, not all that bad for what it was.

William Regal, then Paul Burchill, then Tyler Reks, then Yoshi Tatsu made their entrances for the tag team match. And I thought ROH's new entrance music was boring and generic...
2. William Regal and Paul Burchill defeated Tyler Reks and Yoshi Tatsu in 11:30. Tatsu and Burchill exchanged holds early, and Tatsu took over with some speed moves.
[Q2] Burchill tagged in Regal, and Tatsu tagged in Reks. Reks went hold for hold with Regal, impressing Matt Striker on commentary. Regal tossed Reks to the floor into the break. [C]
Back from the commercial, highlights played of Reks throwing Regal awkwardly into the ring apron. The faces worked over Regal's left arm/shoulder until he tagged in Burchill. Burchill worked on Tatsu's left leg, then his right one. Regal tagged in and continued to work on Tatsu's right leg. Burchill tagged back in and locked in a single leg crab, then stood up for no reason. Tatsu slapped him a couple times, then tried an enziugiri, but Burchill ducked and shoulder blocked Reks on the apron.
He turned back and Tatsu took him over with a fireman's carry and tagged in Reks. Reks hit several dropkicks, and the action broke down with Burchill and Tatsu going to ringside. Reks tried a springboard crossbody, but Regal reversed it into a small package for the pin.
Joe's Judgment: Forgettable at best, and horrible at worst. Really, I don't know what else to say about it, other than that Tatsu and Reks need to be either given more compelling characters, or build them for themselves, because nobody really cared about them in the crowd at all.
A whole lot of videos recapped John Cena visiting Wrigley Field and throwing out the first pitch... [C]
[Q3] A video aired to remind us that Vladimir Kozlov is a big dude who beats people up and has zero charisma, and then another video recapping Smackdown...
Rey Mysterio made his ring entrance, and we went to commercial... [C]
Back from commercial, Mike Knox entered and the announcers mentioned that the two had some history together. Dolph Ziggler came down to do commentary.
[Q4] Rey Mysterio defeated Mike Knox by DQ in 14:15. Mysterio started off by trying to kick Knox in the quad, but it didn't work and Knox took control. He got a couple nearfalls after just knocking Mysterio down. Mysterio regained the advantage heading into the break after lowbridging Knox and hitting a seated senton to ringside. A Dolph Ziggler video aired, in case you forgot who he was.[C]
Back from break and Knox had the advantage. Mysterio regained it with a huracanrana, but Knox hit a clothesline and then a big boot from the top turnbuckle to the floor. Rey just barely beat the ten count back in, and Knox continued his offense.
Knox held Mysterio in a bearhug, and got a nearfall after a backbreaker and big splash. He hit another backbreaker, and then just held him over his knee. Mysterio punched Knox in the face a few times, and forced him to stand up, then got a headscissors takedown, springboard seated senton, and then ducked a spear in the corner, and hit the wheelbarrow neckbreaker thing. Knox tried a big splash, but missed and Rey kicked him in the head. He kicked him again, and ran off the ropes a few times, but Knox caught him with a crossbody for a great nearfall.
Knox picked Mysterio up for some sort of slam, but Mysterio countered into a DDT for a nearfall, then dropkicked Knox into the ropes, and hit the 619. He tried to follow up with another springboard seated senton, but Dolph Ziggler tripped him up, causing the DQ. Ziggler and Knox tried to beat up Mysterio, but he escaped up the ramp to close the show.
Joe's Judgment: Pretty good match. It makes me wonder why Raw pulled the plug on the Knox-Mysterio feud without a payoff, because these two work pretty well together, and it would have been a good way to elevate Knox, who has some serious skills for a big man. Still, good main event, and I like the focus on the IC title. Rey is simply the man this year.
The main event saved this show, because the first two matches were pretty darn bad. Not the best show for my live coverage debut, and my WWE debut as well. I'll be back Saturday for ROH, for the last time before professional wrestling returns to Monday nights. See you then, and in the mean time, email me at jtmathieson88@gmail.com.
