6/11 Shore's WWE Superstars Live Coverage: The Bella Twins vs. Beth Phoenix and Rosa Mendes, Evan Bourne vs. Zack Ryder, Chris Jericho vs. John Morrison
Jun 11, 2009 - 07:00 PM

WWE Superstars on WGN America
Taped in Lafayette, La and Biloxi, Miss.

[Q1] The opening video aired, followed by the pyro, and Michael Cole welcomed us to Superstars. He and Jerry “The King” Lawler where on commentary. They hyped the Jericho/Morrison main event…Beth Phoenix and Rosa Mendez made their entrance. The Bellas came out next…

1. Beth Phoenix and Rosa Mendez defeated Brie and Nikki Bella at 3:26. Rosa and the Bella Cole said was Nikki started out. Nikki got a quick roll up for one and then tagged in Brie. They hit a double hip toss on Rosa. Brie whipped her to the corner and hit a sad looking monkey flip while tagging in Nikki. Nikki lost control and tagged in Beth. Beth worked on Nikki and pushed her to the ropes. Nikki grabbed the ropes to stop and Brie walked four feet away from the corner to make the tag. WTF was that? The Bellas hit a double drop kick on Beth, then on Rosa who ran in. Beth hit a double clothesline on the Bellas. Brie hit the weakest flying elbow ever on Beth and covered, but Rosa had the ref distracted. Nikki attacked her and Beth hit her finisher for the win…

A video package recapped the Batista/Orton/Hunter garbage from Raw…The announce team hyped the Fatal Fourway match for the WWE title on Raw on Monday…Evan Bourne was shown backstage getting ready for his match. His ribs are taped from the attack by Henry on Tuesday. His match with Zack Ryder is next…[C]

Shore’s Slant: Well, vacation is over and the first thing I get is a three minute Diva’s tag match that meant nothing. Beth is great, the rest…well, let’s just say I think I would have preferred Horndust. How bad is Raw? Even the Raw match on Superstars stinks. Look at what we are getting from the other brands on this show. I will save further venom on Raw for now, but by popular demand, I will be guest covering Raw on Monday with Dot Net Founder Jason Powell. I won’t hold back then.

[Q2]Did you know, last month over 100 million photos of Divas were seen on WWE.com. Well now you do…A Kofi Kingston video aired…Evan Bourne made his entrance as Josh Matthews and Matt Striker took over on commentary. A video showed the attack by Henry on Bourne. Zack Ryder was out next…

2. Evan Bourne defeated Zack Ryder at 11:55. Ryder played the chicken shit heel at first, running and ducking into the ropes. Bourne hit a hip toss and locked in an arm bar that Ryder couldn’t escape. He finally got his feet in the ropes to cause the break. Striker said he didn’t know what “woo woo woo” meant and he spoke 11 languages including Ebonics. He and Matthews cracked on each other as the action in the ring was slow. Ryder finally took control and locked in a chin lock.

Bourne used the turnbuckle to break the hold and ducked a clothesline. He locked in a backslide for two and popped up after the kick out to hit a quick leg drop. Very cool spot. He signaled for the Shooting Star Press and went to the top, but Ryder knocked Bourne off the turnbuckle and onto the top rope. He pulled Bourne down and covered for two. Ryder locked in another chinlock to take us into commercial…[C]

Back from commercial at 7:48, Ryder hit a flapjack for two. He followed up with leg scissors on the body. Bourne stood up and reversed into a single leg Boston crab. Ryder made the ropes and kicked Bourne immediately. He hit a reverse suplex for two and locked in another rest hold. Bourne battled out and ran to the ropes but stopped. Ryder missed a drop kick and Bourne hit one of his own. Bourne worked his offense, hitting a flying elbow for two.

Ryder grabbed Bourne’s leg and Bourne hit a standing insuguri that staggered Ryder. Ryder came back with a running guillotine leg drop for two. Very cool move. Ryder put Bourne on the top turnbuckle and tried for a superplex, but Bourne punched out, sending Ryder to the mat. Bourne hit the Shooting Star Press for the win…

[Q3]The announce team hyped the main event again…[C]

Shore’s Slant: How f’ing stupid does Ryder look and act? The “woo, woo, woo” is about ridiculous, but not as ridiculous as his tights. That being said, I was very entertained by this match after the first three minutes. The action after the commercial was great and if Ryder can survive the worst gimmick since Isaac Yankim D.D.S., he has a chance to be something based on his in ring work.

The Extreme Rules encore commercial played. Save your money and buy the next Edge or Jeff Hardy DVD which will feature the only match worth paying for…Jim Ross and Todd Grisham are on commentary as Smackdown presents the main event. Chris Jericho made his entrance and they did mention Rey Mysterio being unmasked by Jericho so the Mysterio is leaving rumors just lost some credibility…[C]

Back from commercial, Morrison made his ring entrance…

3. Chris Jericho defeated John Morrison at 12:53. Jericho put this match over on his Twitter feed so I’m jacked up. Collar and elbow tie up went to the ropes. Morrison broke clean and Jericho escaped to the outside. He came back in and they locked up again, leading to a Jericho side head lock. Morrison pushed him off the ropes and Jericho won the shoulder tackle. Jericho ran the ropes and Morrison hit a hip toss into an arm bar. Jericho fought out and drove Morrison into the corner.

[Q4]Morrison fought back and hit a jumping heel kick on Jericho. He whipped him into the corner and hit a hip toss off the rebound, locking in an arm bar. Jericho stood and backed into the corner. He punched Morrison as the ref tried to force the break. Jericho whipped Morrison into the corner and followed. Morrison kicked him and then clotheslined him over the top rope. Morrison hit a corkscrew type plancha (WOW) and rolled Jericho back in the ring. He jumped up and hit the top rope for a springboard, but Jericho grabbed the rope, spilling Morrison to the mat. Both men recovered into commercial…[C]

Back at 7:05, Jericho hit a slingshot on the bottom rope on Morrison. Morrison stood on the apron and Jericho hit his springboard drop kick to knock Morrison to the floor. Jericho posed for the crowd, drawing a ton of heat. Back in the ring, they botched a move at the ropes and Jericho locked in a rest hold. Morrison fought out and hit a back breaker and a side Russian leg sweep. Both men stood and Jericho hit a running insaguri for two. He draped Morrison on the second rope and stood on his back, breaking at four.

Morrison managed to whip Jericho into the corner and ran in. Jericho kicked him and jumped off the second rope into a gut punch from Morrison. Morrison worked fast offense, hitting a shoulder tackle, a dropkick and an around the world DDT for two. He whipped Jericho into the corner and ran in. Jericho moved and caught a bulldog on Morrison when he bounced out. Jericho tried for a Lionsault, but Morrison rolled out and hit the second rope for a springboard kick on Jericho who had landed on his feet. He covered for a long two count.

Morrison ran at Jericho who tossed him into the air. Morrison landed on his face and stood up. Jericho tried for the Code Breaker but Morrison pushed him off and hit a knee on a sitting Jericho. Jericho reversed a kick attempt into a Walls of Jericho setup, but Morrison powered out. Morrison went for Starship Pain, but Jericho moved. Morrison landed on his feet and Jericho dropped him for another Walls of Jericho setup. Morrison curled up and rolled Jericho. At two, Jericho kicked and reversed the roll up. He grabbed the tights and Morrison couldn’t escape. Post match, Jericho grabbed his belt and left as Morrison looked upset in the ring…[C]

Shore’s Slant: HOLY ****! Was that the best match on free TV since WCW started giving away matches? Great, great TV match that would have only disappointed slightly had it been on PPV. Morrison is a star right now. He should be pushed to the Smackdown main event immediately. Once he sheds the little quirks in his character, you could put the company on his back and let him carry it. Jericho is the best heel in the industry right now. I won’t go on and on about this match and these two guys, but I could. Let there be ZERO doubt. Smackdown is the A show in WWE and all of wrestling. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you tomorrow night for Smackdown.
