1/9 Hermanstyne's WWE Smackdown Coverage: Triple Jeopardy starring Triple H, Jeff Hardy hit and run saga, Shelton Benjamin vs. Undertaker, Carlito and Primo vs. The Brian Kendrick and Ezekiel Jackson for WWE Tag Titles
Jan 9, 2009 - 09:21 PM

WWE Smackdown on MyNetwork TV
East Rutherford, N.J.

[Q1] The show began with JR talking about the hit and run accident involving Jeff Hardy and his girlfriend. JR mentioned that Jeff is OK and Jeff will talk about the accident later on in the show. The opening montage aired.

Mind of Marv: Here we go again with these dumbass, worked angles by WWE, ugh...

JR hyped the triple jeopardy matches that are listed for Triple H. Justin Roberts announced the first match, the tables match. Video was shown of Triple H ripping Vickie from last week.

1. Triple H defeated John Morrison in a triple jeopardy tables match in 4:24. The match began with Morrison applying some quick offense but Hunter attacked fairly quickly with a high knee and throwing Morrison in the ring post. Hunter attempted to suplex Morrison through the table Morrison countered and grabbed a table. Morrison hit a nice springboard kick to Hunter and began to attack. Hunter spine busted Morrison after attempting to knock Morrison on the table. Hunter set up a table in the ring and attempted to suplex Morrison but he counted and pushed Morrison on a table outside to complete phase one in triple jeopardy.

After the match, Miz and Chavo attacked Hunted and threw him in the table. Vickie was observing backstage.

Mind of Marv: This match was indeed weak and predictable because if Hunter lost this match, what will be the point of the other two?

Shelton Benjamin and Undertaker are next...[C]

[Q2] Hunter was walking backstage and Vickie confronted him and say one down, two to go and wished him luck. Shelton was already in the ring awaiting the Undertaker.

2. Undertaker pinned United States Champion Shelton Benjamin in 12:34. The match began with Shelton being aggressive towards Taker until Taker countered with his usual offense. Taker worked on Shelton's arm hitting Old School and a running clothesline. [C]

The show returned with Shelton in control and he worked on Taker's leg. Shelton continued to be aggressive until Taker countered with an elbow. Taker attempted a choke slam but Shelton countered by working on Taker's leg. Taker took his good leg, knocked Shelton out of the ring and rammed him in the security wall and gave him a leg drop.

Taker attempted the Last Ride but Shelton countered with a DDT. Shelton spring boarded unto Taker for a choke slam for a near fall. Taker tombstones Shelton for the victory.

Mind of Marv: This was an excellent TV match. This can be nice elevation for Shelton to finally get involved in the main event. Drop the U.S. strap and get in the main event picture because that would make the brand more loaded with main event talent.

Footage of the Hardy accident is next...[C]

[Q3] The video was shown of Jeff Hardy's accident. Hardy explained to the officer about the situation. Tazz interviewed Edge about Jeff's accident. Edge mentioned that he feels bad for Jeff and he mentioned that he will keep Jeff and his girlfriend in his prayers.

Mind of Marv: Man this work is already looking real shitty...

The Bella Twins are walking to the ring...[C]

[Q4] 3. The Bella Twins defeated Michelle McCool and Victoria in 3:37. Brie and McCool began the match. McCool started to act like G.I. Jane doing pushups and jumping jacks and shit. But anyway, Brie applied some takeovers and was countered by both heels. Victoria attempted a moonsault and missed, while Nikki got tagged and got the pinfall victory.

After the match, McCool beat the shit out of Victoria and gave her the Styles clash.

Mind of Marv: Boring ass Divas match. The A-Cup twins get another weak ass victory and Michelle McCool stole another move from a wrestler. I'm starting to think she has a limited move equivalent to John Cena. And is it a coincidence that Taker wrestled first and McCool was next?

Triple H is heading to the ring for his second triple jeopardy match...[C]

4. Triple H defeated The Miz and Chavo Guerrero in a triple jeopardy handicap match in 4:17. The match began with the Miz and Hunter. The heels tried to take control, but Hunter threw Chavo into the ring post. Miz applied a arm bar takedown to Hunter's injured arm. Chavo hit Hunter with a spinning heel kick and Miz hit Hunter with a running clothesline. Chavo missed a frog splash and Hunter hit Miz with a clothesline, a high knee and clothesline. Miz attempted to tag Chavo, but he left and got Pedigreed for Hunter to win the second Triple Jeopardy match.

Mind of Marv: I'm sensing the HBS, Hunter Burial Syndrome. Not only he destroys the gopher, he buries both of the world tag team champions. What a great way to push young talent.

[Q5] Vickie came up on the Titantron and said two down, one to go. She mentioned that last man standing match is against the Big Show. The Jeff Hardy update will be discussed later tonight...[C]

A Vladimir Kozlov vignette about his training is shown.

Mind of Marv: Waste of time.

The VIP Lounge segment begins with MVP sounding really dejected and he introduces Mr. Kennedy. There were a ton of MVP chants. Kennedy and MVP were going on about MVP's losing streak. Kennedy pubbed his movie and said he is trying to inspire MVP to stop whining, complaining and losing. The production crew comes in and a guy says his furniture is getting repossessed. Kennedy said things can get bad but it can be worse.

Suddenly, the Boogeyman comes out and slammed MVP he tried to do the worm gimmick to MVP but he slides out right in time.

Mind of Marv: This was clearly a throwaway segment, this MVP loser and broke storyline has seriously ran its course and Kennedy has officially annoyed me just as bad as Cena. SERIOUSLY.

The WWE tag team championship is next...[C]

The Raw rebound was shown...

[Q6] 5. Carlito and Primo defeated The Brian Kendrick and Ezekiel Jackson to retain the WWE Tag Team Championships in 5:18. Primo and Zeke began the match and Carlito got a quick tag. The Colons got a double clothesline on Zeke from the top rope. Zeke used his power to dominate Carlito and tagged Kendrick. The Colons began to work on Kendrick. Zeke got back into control and gave Primo a bear hug. Carlito gave Kendrick the Backstabber to retain the belts.

Mind of Marv: This was a opening ECW type at best which really didn't keep my attention. Tazz making lame ass Shamwow comments made me scratch my head. Who is feeding him this shit, Adamle?

The Jeff Hardy update is next...

[Q7] The cell phone footage of the accident was shown...

Mind of Marv: Are you kidding me? Who in the hell is in the bushes taping on a cell phone late at night? This is a DEAD giveaway to the casual viewer that this is a work. Dumbass creative should have been fired today with all the mass firings at Titantowers today...

The pre-recorded video was shown about Hardy talking about the accident and mentioned that he and his girlfriend was not seriously injured. He will back next week and ready to defend his WWE title against Edge at the Royal Rumble.

The announcers run down the current Royal Rumble card with Kevin Rudolf's, “Let It Rock” as the theme song of the Royal Rumble.

Mind of Marv: Cool theme music as its one of my favorite tracks to listen to on the regular.

The Big Show approached the ring...[C]

They recapped Hunter's two previous matches from earlier tonight.

[Q8] 6. Big Show knocked out Triple H in 16:30. The match began with Show working on the left arm of Hunter with an head butt. Hunter tried to squeeze some offense, but Show threw him outside of the ring. [C]

The show returned with Show chopping Hunter chest off. Show continued to work on Hunter's arm and gave him a leg drop which caught the crowd's attention. Show gave Hunter a series of head butts and body blows. Hunter tried to fight back but Show threw Hunter into the stairs and he got up at the eight count. Hunter tried to clothesline Show twice but Show countered with a clothesline of his own.

Both competitors knocked each other and got up at the eight count. Show speared Hunter which looked really nasty and Hunter got up at the eight count again. Show head butted Hunter seven times and Hunter gave him the Suck It sign and pedigreed Show. Show got up at the nine count and he attempted to knockout Hunter. Hunter tried to Pedigree Show for the second time but Show countered.

Hunter got up at the nine count and he threw Show into the ring post and he got up at the eight count. Show choke slammed Hunter into the announce table and Hunter got up at the nine count. Show knocked out Hunter for the win.

Vickie came out and watched Hunter to end the show.

Mind of Marv: Very predictable show. Hunter did the same crap in Chicago at No Mercy 2007: he wins his first two matches, then loses in a last man standing match at the end. The only difference was the WWE title was involved the first time. But it shows that creative basically recycled the idea and try to make it look innovative by calling it Triple Jeopardy. That’s B.S. But overall, besides the Shelton vs. Taker match, the rest of the show was all about Hunter. Boring.
