12/2 Twilling's ECW Live Coverage: Matt Hardy vs. MVP, Jack Swagger vs. Ricky Ortiz, DJ Gabriel will wrestle while everyone watches Alicia Fox dance
Dec 2, 2008 - 09:00 PM |
ECW on The SciFi Network
Taped in Washington D.C.
[Q1] The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the stage. Todd Grisham and Matt Striker welcomed us to the show. Grisham gave a shameless Obama plug and Striker plugged Matt Hardy vs. MVP...
Jack Swagger came out for his match and took the microphone. He channeled his inner Dolph Ziggler and told us his name was Jack Swagger. Swagger said he was undefeated and called out Teddy Long to name him the number one contender to Matt Hardy's ECW Title. Long came out with Tiffany, who looked fantastic.
Long said he was not ready to name Swagger the number one contender. Tiffany suggested Ricky Ortiz as the number one contender. Ortiz came out to the ring and Tiffany climaxed more than once in the way she was looking at him. Long made an Ortiz vs. Swagger match and said it would take place right now...
Twill's Two Cents: Tiffany and Ricky Ortiz? Only in Ricky's dreams.
1. Jack Swagger defeated Ricky Ortiz in 2:58. Ricky dominated the early moments as Swagger was not mentally prepared to compete... [C]
Back from commercial, Ortiz hit a shoulder block off of the middle rope, but missed his big splash. Swagger took over and hit his finisher for the clean victory...
Twill's Two Cents: As impressive as his victory was over Tommy Dreamer last week and with how unspectacular Ricky Ortiz, this is arguably a much bigger win for Swagger.
[Q2] Teddy Long told Tiffany Swagger was impressive. Tiffany was not convinced. MVP entered and reminded everyone that Teddy Long signed him to his original contract. Long joked with Tiffany that MVP should have easily reached his incentive bonuses by now. "I'm standing right here," said MVP. MVP said he would get back on track tonight by beating someone he owns; Matt Hardy... [C]
A trailer for Kennedy's movie aired. I know there is a lot of money in straight to DVD movies, but quality-wise, they should never be made...
Finlay and Hornswoggle came out to the ring. Finlay said he came from a family of wrestlers and he understood the business. He called out Mark Henry and said they would finish what they started. Henry came out and said he did not start anything; Finlay did.
Henry warned Finlay that he could not watch Hornswoggle every second of the day. He challenged Finlay and Hornswoggle to a tag team match with Tony Atlas as his partner. Horny was down and Finlay accepted the challenge...
Twill's Two Cents: Who in the hell names their son Hornswoggle? I never saw that one in the big book of baby names. I've seen Darby, Bella, and Sophie though. Of course, those are girl names.
In case you missed it, the hilarious skit with DX pimping the Elimination Chamber play set was shown... [C]
[Q3] Back from commercial, Alicia Fox and some guy (DJ Gabriel) were dancing in the middle of the ring...
2. DJ Gabriel (with Alicia Fox) defeated Josh Daniels in 2:24. Gabriel used the giant swing again. He then hit a nice double underhook suplex. Gabriel used the drop to his knees backbreaker followed by the second rope European uppercut for the win...
Twill's Two Cents: My man Jason Powell calls Jillian a guilty pleasure. Gabriel and Fox are my guilty pleasure. I dig their act.
Striker plugged the main event... [C]
Grisham said WWE.com will list the Slammy Match of the Year candidates after the show. Striker mentioned Finlay vs. Matt Hardy, Cena vs. Batista, and Swagger vs. Dreamer as possible candidates...
Twill's Two Cents: Could you imagine Tommy Dreamer winning a match of the year in a WWE contest? Me neither.
[Q4] 3. Matt Hardy defeated MVP in a non-title match in 13:37. Grisham and Striker did a fantastic job of putting over the history of these two. Striker said they should be considered for rivalry of the year. Of course, that has to go to Michaels vs. Jericho. Hardy hit a Side Effect in the opening moments. He then went all the way to the top and hit an elbow to a standing MVP for a two count.
Hardy applied a headlock takeover and MVP fought out of it. Hardy almost hit the Twist of Fate but MVP slipped out of the ring. Hardy motioned that he was just that close to defeating MVP... [C]
Back from commercial, MVP hit the Driveby (running kick to the head), knocking Hardy to the floor. Porter kept the advantage for awhile. Striker quoted Calvin Broadus (Snoop Dogg), "I've got my mind on my money and my money on my mind" referring to MVP's mindset. Grisham said something about Stella getting her groove back. Grisham is a douche tonight.
Hardy and MVP exchanged a lot of offense and many nearfalls. The fact that these two know each other well came through in this match. MVP went for the Playmaker, but Hardy hit a Side Effect followed by the Twist of Fate for the win. Grisham called it the "Twist of Face." That would be painful. Hardy celebrated as MVP sulked as the show went off the air...
Twill's Two Cents: Fantastic television match. That was a lot of fun and even though it was not a storyline advancement of any kind, I like when they throw two great workers together and let them go for awhile. Very good show tonight. I'll have more to say in the ECW Hitlist.
While ECW is always a good to very good hour, I thought it was a step above the norm this week. Let me know what you thought by sending an email to dotnetrich@gmail.com.
