4/1 Kester's WWE Main Event Live Coverage Review: Sheamus vs. The Miz and Nikki Bella vs. Tamina
Apr 1, 2014 - 07:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

Main Event on WWE Network
Taped earlier in Washington, D.C.

1. Sheamus vs. The Miz. Sheamus absolutely manhandled Miz in the early going. Miz managed to bait Sheamus into tumbling over the ropes, and Miz followed with a running dropkick to the outside.

His offense was short-lived, however, as when Miz pursued Sheamus, Sheamus caught him and threw him into the barricade via a fall away slam... [C]

Back from the break, Miz shoved Sheamus into the steel post and began working over Sheamus' head. Sheamus got in a few hope spots, but every time he did, Miz made him eat a boot to the head.

Eventually, Sheamus found his second wind and began making his comeback. Sheamus nailed his Irish Curse for a near fall and immediately went for White Noise, but Miz fought out of the move and countered with a DDT for a near fall of his own.

Miz began to target Sheamus' legs and went for the figure-four, but Sheamus kicked out. The two men traded finisher attempts but were unable to complete their signature spots. Miz managed to catch Sheamus in the figure-four, but Sheamus crawled to the ropes. Moments later, Sheamus blasted Miz with a Brogue Kick, and covered the man for the 1-2-3… [C]

Sheamus defeated The Miz in 14:27.

Ryan's Reaction: Not a bad match, but the pacing really crawled until the final few minutes. Longer matches are great, but only if there is a well-told story that makes that time fly. This match was more the typical Raw five to six minute affair that was padded with extra rest holds to give it the façade of a longer, more competitive contest.

2. Nikki Bella (w/Brie Bella) vs. Tamina (w/AJ Lee). Nikki got the better of Tamina in the early going, but Tamina baited Nikki into a clothesline on the floor.

Tamina settled into control and worked over Nikki with a series of strikes and power moves. Nikki began to make her comeback and hit a snapmare facebuster for a two count. Tamina responded with a gut kick to Brie on the outside to infuriate Nikki.

Tamina used Nikki's ire to draw her into a superkick and followed with a Superfly Splash for the pinfall victory…. [C]

Tamina defeated Nikki Bella in 4:10.

Ryan's Reaction: That match was mostly a mess. Nikki has improved a lot in the ring since her debut, but it didn't show in this match. Clunky transitions and botches filled almost every aspect of her offense, and it made for a clumsy match.
