3/11 Kester's WWE Main Event Live Coverage Review: Dean Ambrose vs. Mark Henry for the United States Championship and AJ Lee vs. Natalya for the WWE Divas Championship
Mar 11, 2014 - 07:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

Main Event on WWE Network
Aired live from Little Rock, Arkansas.

Ryan's Reaction: It's important to note that my area is experiencing a rather severe thunderstorm. Should it persist, I may lose power. If updates suddenly cease, rest assured, I will have my coverage back up and running as soon as possible.

1. Los Matadores (w/El Torito) vs. Rybaxel. Los Matadores outpaced Ryback in the early going. Axel tagged into the match and the heels were finally able to establish control.

Ryback and Axel worked a series of quick tags to wear down Fernando. Fernando got in a series of hope spots, but Rybaxel controlled the majority of the match.

Eventually, Fernando got the hot tag to Diego, who took out both Axel and Ryback with a flurry of flashy offense. Fernando knocked Ryback down at ringside and El Torito jumped on the apron. Axel kicked Torito off the apron, but he landed on Ryback on the floor. This distracted Axel long enough for Diego to roll him up for the pinfall victory… [C]

Los Matadores defeated Rybaxel in 8:35

Ryan's Reaction: Eh, that match left a lot to be desired. Los Matadores simply isn't clicking, even as a comedy act with El Torito, and WWE has done so little with either of these lately that it's difficult to get invested in their pairing.

AJ and Tamina made their entrance. AJ grabbed a mic and told the audience that she is so bored. She said that Natalya has another shot at her Diva's Championship, but she will beat her once again and prove that she has no competition and show why she's the longest-reigning Diva's Champion of all time.

2. AJ Lee (w/Tamina) vs. Natalya for the WWE Divas Championship. AJ skipped around the ring briefly, but Natalya quickly locked up and the women jockeyed for control. Natalya sent AJ Crashing to the floor… [C]

Back from the brief break, Natalya tried to slam AJ, but AJ reversed the maneuver into a guillotine choke. AJ took her turn on offense and targeted Natalya's neck and shoulder.

Natalya battled back and hit a sitout bodyslam for a near fall. AJ locked in the Black Widow out of nowhere, but Natalya muscled out of it and went for the Sharpshooter.

AJ fought the hold off, but Natalya went right back to the hold, this time she locked it in tight. AJ fought to the ropes twice, the second time Tamina pushed the ropes towards AJ's hands.

Natalya and Tamina argued, and AJ hit a Shining Wizard. AJ locked in the Black Widow once more, and Natalya eventually tapped out.

AJ Lee defeated Natalya in 14:19 to retain the Diva's Championship.

Santino Marella and Emma had a dinner date backstage and Santino made a mess by getting up to get pepper and taking the tablecloth with him. The pair stumbled around for a few moments before Emma declared that she'd never ask for pepper again… [C]

Ryan's Reaction: Great women's match. Natalya and AJ worked their asses off, and they had the crowd behind them by the end of their match. Natalya consistently throws me off with her grunts, but she backed off of that late in the match and she and AJ showed a great deal of chemistry.

The Raw Rebound focused on Daniel Bryan taking over Raw… [C]

3. Dean Ambrose (w/ Seth Rollins and Roman Reins) vs. Mark Henry for the United States Championship. Henry manhandled Ambrose in the early going. Ambrose regrouped with the rest of The Shield on the outside only to get another round of Henry's offense upon his return to the ring.

Henry jawed with Reins and Rollins long enough for Ambrose to score a dropkick to Henry's knees… [C]

Back from the break, Ambrose continued to work over Henry's legs. Ambrose went between working over Henry with holds to taking shots at Henry's knees.

Henry set up for a splash from the second rope, but Reins jawed with Henry to distract him long enough for Ambrose to pull him off. Ambrose hit his finisher and covered Henry for the 1-2-3.

Dean Ambrose defeated Mark Henry in 11:05

Ryan's Reaction: Decent enough match, but Ambrose's retention was never in doubt, and Henry is so much more subdued as a babyface than he is when he's allowed to be a monster heel and just tear into folks. Overall, the show left a lot to be desired. The women's match in the middle was impressive, but the bookend matches either disappointed or underwhelmed.
