3/4 Kester's WWE Main Event Live Coverage Review: The Uso Brothers vs. The New Age Outlaws for the WWE Tag Team Championship and Daniel Bryan vs. Kane
Mar 4, 2014 - 06:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

Main Event on The WWE Network
Aired live from Detroit, Michigan.

The show opened with a recap of Daniel Bryan standing up to The Authority and the attack he suffered at the end of Raw…

1. Daniel Bryan vs. Kane. Kane established control early and manhandled Bryan. Kane was greeted with a series of "You sold out!" chats.

Bryan got in a hope spot when he pulled the rope and sent a charging Kane to the floor, but when Bryan attempted to follow with an attack, Kane caught him and threw him into the barricade and the ring apron.

Bryan caught Kane with a drop-toe hold into the second turnbuckle and began working Kane over with a series of kicks and punches. Bryan wrapped Kane's leg around the steel post and dropkicked the knee. Bryan continued to work over Kane's leg.

Bryan began working his running dropkicks, but Kane caught Bryan with a big boot and took control… [C]

Back from the break, Kane continued to work over Bryan with a series of slams and rest holds. Bryan began making his comeback and dropkicked Kane to the floor. Bryan followed with a missile dropkick for a two count.

Kane quickly regained the upper hand and nailed his flying clothesline. Kane called for the chokeslam but ate a roundhouse from Bryan. Bryan followed with a diving headbutt for another near fall.

Kane answered with a running DDT for a near fall of his own. Kane grabbed Bryan for a chokeslam, but when he lifted him Bryan rolled through pinned Kane's shoulders for the 1-2-3… [C]

Daniel Bryan defeated Kane in 18:20.

Ryan's Reaction: Solid match. The ending left a lot to be desired, but these two work very well together and delivered an entertaining match. Smart and relevant pairing for WWE to bring more eyes to a show they've been ignoring for some time.

Josh Matthews interviewed Kane backstage, but the feed on my PS4 began to skip terribly and I missed what was said.

2. Alicia Fox (w/Aksana) vs. Nikki Bella (w/Brie Bella). Nikki went right to work targeting Fox's arm.

Aksana caused a distraction at ringside and Fox capitalized with a shot from behind. Fox took her turn on offense and hit a gorgeous northern lights suplex for a two count.

Nikki began making her comeback and hit her torture rack breaker finisher for the pinfall victory… [C]

Nikki Bella defeated Alicia Fox in 4:39

Ryan's Reaction: Decent match. Nikki isn't one of WWE's better workers, but she was passable tonight and Fox pulled out her few impressive spots for an entertaining match by Diva standards.

Renee Young interviewed the Uso Brothers in the ring about their Tag team Championship victory. They said winning the belts hadn't sunk in yet, but they knew the former champions wouldn't be happy about their victory. The New Age Outlaws quickly interrupted the segment and made their way to the ring.

Road Dogg mocked Detroit and said he had a feeling of awe for standing in the ring with the luckiest boys in the world. He said they'd have to postpone their rematch because they are not at 100%. He said when they recover, the tag titles are coming home to the New Age Outlaws.

Brad Maddox came onstage and confirmed the injury. He noted that the crowd was expecting a tag team championship match, and he introduced Los Matadores as their new opponents… [C]

The New Age Outlaws joined the announce team…

3. The Uso Brothers vs. Los Matadores (w/El Torito) for the WWE Tag Team Championships. Jey started opposite Fernando, and the two men worked a bit of chain wrestling. Diego checked in for the Matadores, but The Usos maintained control and worked a few quick tags to wear down their opponent.

The Usos hit a dive on each of their opponents. All four men sold on the floor… [C]

Back from the break, the Usos continued their dominant ways. Fernando managed to tag into the match and the Matadores caught Jey with a double-team maneuver. Los Matadores worked quick tags as they took their turn on offense.

Jimmy Uso got the hot tag and he tore into Los Matadores. Fernando managed to hit a DDT after some theatrics to cut off his offensive flurry, but Jey entered the match and provided some backup.

The Usos nailed a double superkick and followed with a Superfly Splash for the 1-2-3…

The Uso Brothers defeated Los Matadores in 9:41 to retain the WWE Tag Team Championships.

Billy Gunn shoved El Torito after the match, so Torito attacked him with his flashy offense. Los Matadores hit their finisher on Gunn with some assistance from El Torito.

Ryan's Reaction: This was the match of the hard to differentiate tag partners. Overall, a solid tag main event, but the dual babyface aspect undercut it quite a bit. There simply was no heat on either team, and the titles being on the line gave away the ending considering this was a replacement match and the Usos just captured the title.

This was a very good edition of Main event. Solid matches throughout and only one minor technical glitch throughout the entire broadcast.
