2/5 Kester's WWE Main Event Live Coverage Review: Fandango vs. The Miz, Alberto Del Rio vs. Zack Ryder, and Big E Langston vs. Curtis Axel
Feb 5, 2014 - 07:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

Main Event on Ion Television
Taped earlier in Des Moines, Iowa.

[Q1] Santino Marella introduced Emma from NXT, who came out doing her dance...

Santino and Emma joined the announcers on commentary…

1. Fandango (w/Summer Rae) vs. The Miz. Fandango got in some early offense, but Miz quickly responded in kind. Fandango rolled out of the ring and Miz connected with a dive. Miz and Emma did Emma's dance together… [C]

Back from the break, Fandango was in control and targeting Miz' neck and arm. Miz got in a few hope spots, but Fandango largely controlled the offense.

[Q2] Miz managed to find some space and began making his comeback. Miz managed to catch Fandango in the figure-four leglock, and Fandango was forced to tap…

Miz defeated Fandango in 8:40 of TV time.

Triple H told Michael Cole in their weekly interview that he had to bring the best out of his talent. Triple H talked about how Randy Orton had a lot to prove to him and he would be facing John Cena on Monday… [C]

Ryan's Reaction: Decent match, but the announcers distracted from it the entire time with their guests, and it cut out any momentum the match tried to produce. Emma did well on commentary, for the most part. She's got a good personality, but I'm not sure her silly dance will work as well on a national audience as it did in NXT.

2. Alberto Del Rio vs. Zack Ryder. Ryder took the early advantage, but Del Rio hung him up on the ropes and threw him to the floor. Del Rio roughed up Ryder on the outside.

Back in the ring, Del Rio hit a tilt-o-while backbreaker for a near fall. Ryder got in another burst of offense and the Broski Boot, but Del Rio came right back with his side kick for the pinfall victory…

Alberto Del Rio defeated Zack Ryder in 4:49.

[Q3] Del Rio celebrated after the quick win… [C]

Ryan's Reaction: Solid outing for Del Rio. Ryder got in far more offense than expected, and he reminded me that he could be an asset for WWE if they would just abandon his failed and floundering gimmick.

The Raw Rebound focused on Randy Orton and his match with Daniel Bryan… [C]

[Q4] 3. Big E Langston vs. Curtis Axel in a non-title match. Langston absolutely manhandled Axel in the early going, and Langston got a local pop for wearing his college's colors. Axel pulled Langton into a turnbuckle before raining strikes on Langston's head.

Langston battled back and went to work on Axel's midsection. Axel rolled to the floor to take a breather... [C]

Back from the break, Langston continued his dominance, but Axel managed to gain the upper hand after baiting Langston to the outside and driving him into the ring apron and steel steps. Axel worked over Langston's neck as he worked through his move set.

Langston got a boot up to block a flying forearm form Axel, and Langston tore Axel apart. Langston called for the Big Ending, but Axel managed to nail the Perfect-Plex for a two count. Axel lost his mind over the near fall, and he walked right into a Big Ending.

Langston covered Axel for the 1-2-3.

Big E Langston defeated Curtis Axel in. 11:24

Ryan's Reaction: Solid enhancement match for Langston. He dominated the vast majority of the match, and had a hope spot ever couple of moves that Axel threw at him. Overall, this was an entertaining edition of Main Event. This first match was lackluster, but the show picked up towards the end and ended on a high note with Langston celebrating to a crowd that loved him.
