Nov 14, 2008 - 09:01 PM |
WWE Smackdown on MyNetwork TV
Taped in Manchester, England
[Q1] The show began with an extended video package from last week's show. A casket was shown in the middle of the ring. The Undertaker cut a promo inside the casket about the Big Show and he said that he will be punished for all his sins.
Taker popped out the casket and Jeff Hardy interrupted.
Jeff Hardy talked about how his life is based off emotion and insanity and tonight will be extreme. Undertaker said that Jeff Hardy will rest in peace...
Mind of Marv: Excellent and concise promos by both individuals. The whole Jeff Hardy looking like a Glow in The Dark Joker thing did have me wondering for a second. But overall, its good buildup for the main event tonight.
JR hyped the Extreme Rules match for later tonight and the Champion vs. Champion match which is next...[C]
JR hyped the contact signing and the Divas Championship match for later tonight. JR also announced a Traditional Survivor Series matchup. The Hurrapop popped up and said Benjamin's hair looked like the Love Child of Gary Coleman and Hacksaw Butch Reed, I'm just saying...
[Q2] 1. ECW Champion Matt Hardy defeated United States Champion Shelton Benjamin in 13:58. The match began slowly with a series of basic arm bars and hammerlocks from both competitors. The crowd chanted Hardy throughout the match. Benjamin gave Hardy a nice scoop slam but was countered back into the hammerlock. The competitors exchanged arm drags...[C]
The show returned with Hardy in control and Benjamin countered by working on Hardy's knee. Benjamin applied a half Boston crab and then converted to leg lock. Benjamin attempted Paydirt but was countered with a Twist of Fate attempt which countered by a nasty inverted backbreaker. Hardy pulled a Twist of Fate out of nowhere for the victory. [C]
Mind of Marv: This was one helluva of a TV match. Both competitors worked hard and are commended for their efforts. Didn't like the cheap finish but this is a good undercard match for Smackdown.
[Q3] JR hyped the SD vs. Raw 2009 game which featured the Undertaker and Jeff Hardy match. JR hyped the main event for later tonight.
2. The Brian Kendrick defeated Carlito in 5:48. Kendrick began to work on Carlito's quad and Carlito got back on the offense. Carlito went for a springboard but missed but he gave Kendrick on dropkick.
Carlito gave Kendrick a swinging neckbreaker for the nearfall. Kendrick applied the Camel Clutch on Carlito and was countered by Carlito with dropkicks and a kneelift. Ezekiel Jackson knocked out Primo which distracted Carlito. Kendrick applied The Kendrick on Carlito for the victory.
Mind of Marv: Decent match but the ending outcome was predictable with the interference by Big Zeke. My suggestion to keep Carlito in the tag team picture as long as possible because he will get buried as a singles competitor.
The contract signing is next...[C]
[Q4] A Kizarny vignette is shown. Also, a John Cena video package is shown for his return.
Mind of Marv: Hey readers, I didn't know that Chris Shore's buddy was the overrated one, John Cena. Wow, small world.
Vickie Guerrero received her chorus of heat with her "Excuse Me" line. She mentioned that it will be no physicality during the contract signing. [C]
Vickie mentioned that if Jeff Hardy completed her favor, he maybe inserted into the title match. Kozlov entered the ring with a sport coat and jeans and Hunter entered with his leather jacket.
[Q5] Hunter began his promo by saying that it’s like the United Nations in the ring. Kozlov is from Russia, Chavo is from Mexico, and Vickie is from Bulgerira and Chunkyslavakia. Vickie said, Kozlov signed the contract and Hunter interlude that no one understood what Kozlov said.
Kozlov told Hunter to shut up and Hunter mentioned that he was on a worldwide stage before and was interrupted by Jeff Hardy. Hardy jumped off the top rope and landed on Kozlov on the table, tore up the contract and threw it in Hunter's face. [C]
Mind of Marv: Very interesting segment with Hunter cracking the jokes, Kozlov speaking gibberish and Hardy playing the Joker by popping up and destroying what is in his path.
3. Kung Fu Naki defeated MVP in 1:19. MVP worked on Funaki early in the matchup. The Great Khali came out to distract MVP and Funaki applied the Crane Kick for the quick win.
[Q6] Khali destroyed MVP and the Kisscam segment began. MVP tried to get a cheap shot in but got chopped for his efforts. The selected woman tripped on the stairs and Singh mentioned that Khali calls fat women Cougars. MVP attempted another cheap shot but he got a Khali Bomb. Singh said that Khali wants the woman to kiss MVP and as disgusting as it looked, she kissed MVP.[C]
Mind of Marv: Funny segment. Since they stopped using shovels for MVP burying, let's just start using cranes. It’s already a double whammy that he jobs to Kung Fu Naki and got kissed by a sloppy woman. Here's a guarantee: If he is not the sole survivor at the Survivor Series, count on me not being a fan of his anymore. I can't take the jobbing anymore...
4. Michelle McCool defeated Maria to retain the Divas Title in 1:24. The Hurrapop popped up and said: "Diva Title, yeah. I'm just saying..."
Jesse and Festus came out to watch the match. The match was quick and painless with McCool applying the heel hook and turning it into an ankle lock submission for the quick win. The bell rung and Festus attempted to attack McCool but she ran out. Festus went on to give Maria a teddy bear while they stared at McCool leaving the ring.
Mind of Marv: Why is Festus looking like a stalker when this is supposed to be PG programming?
The announcers hyped the extreme rules main event, which is next...[C]
[Q7] The Raw rebound video is shown. The announcers run down the current Survivor Series card. Jeff Hardy made his ring appearance...[C]
5. Jeff Hardy defeated The Undertaker in an Extreme Rules match in 16:22. The match began with Hardy body splashing Taker and Taker countered with a boot to the face. Hardy jumped off the security wall and attacked Taker. Taker countered by spearing Hardy into the steel stairs. [C]
[Q8] The show returned with Taker beating on Hardy with a series of right hands, thrown to the security wall and the announce table. Taker did a leg drop with a chair on Hardy's head. Hardy grabbed a kendo stick and worked on Taker. Taker retaliated with a boot to the head and smacked Hardy's back with the kendo stick. Hardy began to fight back but Taker knocked him down with one blow.
Hardy attempted Poetry In Motion but Taker countered by throwing him on the concrete. Taker attempted Old School but Hardy countered by pushing him and he grabbed a ladder. Taker kicked the ladder into Hardy's face and threw it at him. Taker threw Hardy into the corner of the ring and Hardy applied the Whisper in the Wind.
Big Show came out to some minor interference but Undertaker wacked Big Show with the chair. Hardy grabbed the chair and hit Taker Jeff Hardy hit a leg drop on The Undertaker from the ladder after the chair shot for the victory.
Hardy walked to the back and ran into Vickie and Chavo.
Vickie said good job but she never promised the same deal to him like Kozlov. She went on to say that she will cut Hardy a deal. If he can defeat Triple H next week, she will make the WWE title match at Survivor Series a triple threat match. Hardy accepted the deal and he says if he is not in the WWE title match, he will go extreme on her to close the show.
Mind of Marv: The main event was very good for the most part. I would call this match more of a NO DQ match instead of an extreme rules match because they over exaggerate the stipulation name. But this was a fun match and it did remind me of the match they had for the undisputed title years ago. But overall, I enjoyed the show because last week's show laid a stale egg and I am glad that the UK crowd got to enjoy a good show.
Good Show and I want to know what you think. Email me: marvomba08@yahoo.com
