10/23 Kester's WWE Main Event Live Coverage Review: Goldust vs. Seth Rollins, The Prime Time Players vs. The Real Americans, Cameron and Naomi vs. Alicia Fox and Aksana, and Dolph Ziggler vs. Damien Sandow
Oct 23, 2013 - 07:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

Main Event on Ion Television
Taped earlier in Birmingham, Alabama.

[Q1] 1. Goldust (w/Cody Rhodes) vs. Seth Rollins (w/Roman Reigns). Goldust out-wrestled Rollins early, so Rollins rolled to the floor to regroup and confer with Reigns. Goldust continued to control the match, but he showboated a bit and Rollins took the opportunity to attack.

Rollins got some offense in, but Goldust quickly regained the upper hand with a series of strikes. Goldust threw Rollins to the floor and Reigns approached Goldust long enough to distract Goldust from an assault by Rollins. Goldust sold on the floor… [C]

Back from the break, Rollins worked over Goldust for a spell, but Goldust quickly hit a powerslam and began to work through his move set. Goldust set up for his finisher, but Rollins slipped out and hit a spin kick to stay alive.

[Q2] Rollins went to the top rope for a curb stomp, but Goldust avoided the hit and scored with a spinebuster for a near fall. Goldust sent Rollins back to the outside and hit a suplex on the floor. Reigns got in Goldust's face again and when he entered the ring, Rollins managed to roll Goldust up for a surprise pinfall victory…

Seth Rollins defeated Goldust in 11:39 of television time.

Ryan's Reaction: Good match. It kept a great pace and managed to showcase both men's arsenal without giving away too much before Sunday.

2. The Prime Time Players vs. The Real Americans (w/Zeb Colter). The Players took and early advantage and began working over Jack Swagger, but Antonio Cesaro managed to get a blind tag in and turned the tide by double stomping in an unsuspecting Young's stomach.

[Q3] The Real Americans quickly settled into control and worked a series of quick tags as they wore down Young's midsection.

Eventually, Young got the hot tag off to O'Neill, who entered the match and ran through both of his opponents. He took his eyes off of Cesaro, however, and Cesaro managed to clip his leg and perform the Cesaro Swing.

Swagger tagged in, locked in The Patriot Lock, and O'Neill was forced to tap.

The Real Americans defeated The Primetime Players in 5:18.

Ryan's Reaction: Quick match, but they kicked things into high gear early and never let up. WWE needs to be careful with the Cesaro Swing if they intend for the Real Americans to be heels because the crowds seem to be having a ton of fun cheering for the move when it should be drawing heat.

The Raw Rebound focused on the hype for the WWE Title match at Hell in a Cell…

[Q4] [C] 3. Cameron and Naomi vs. Alicia Fox and Aksana. The Funkadactyls took and early offensive advantage over Aksana. Fox broke up a pin attempt from Naomi, and Cameron cleared her from the ring.

Moments later, Naomi hit her butt bump finisher on Aksana for the pinfall victory… [C]

Cameron and Naomi defeated Alicia Fox and Aksana in 2:34

Ryan's Reaction: Waste of a match. It was a clunky and slow effort for being so short, and it didn't last long enough to tell any form of a story.

4. Damien Sandow vs. Dolph Ziggler. Sandow took control early and viciously targeted Ziggler's head. Ziggler got in a few hope spots, but Sandow remained in control.

Ziggler finally found some separation and scored with a Fameasser for a near fall. Sandow battled back, however, and hit a full Nelson slam, which the announcers have stopped calling The Silencer, for the 1-2-3.

Damien Sandow defeated Dolph Ziggler in 5:16

Ryan's Reaction: This was effectively an enhancement match for Sandow, but the right man went over. WWE doesn't need to make the same mistake with Sandow that they did with Ziggler, and Ziggler's babyface character has gone nowhere with the Showoff gimmick still attached to his character. Overall, this was a solid edition of Main Event. There was plenty of decent-to-good action throughout, and the lone match that could have been cut came and went before it would ever be offensive. Thanks for following along with me this evening.
