10/2 Kester's WWE Main Event Live Coverage Review: The Wyatt Family vs. The Primetime Players, Damien Sandow vs. Santino Marella, Tons of Funk vs. The Real Americans, and Zack Ryder vs. Curtis Axel
Oct 2, 2013 - 07:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

Main Event on Ion Television
Taped earlier in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

[Q1] Sandow cut a brief promo before the match calling Santino a half-wit and the kind of the stupid. Sandow put himself over as the uncrowned World Heavyweight Champion.

1. Damien Sandow vs. Santino Marella. Santino took and early advantage and went for a few Cobra attempts, but Sandow managed to avoid the move. Santino attempted to hit the Elbow of Disdain on Sandow, but Sandow popped up and hit Santino in the gut. Santino rolled to the floor… [C]

Back from the break, Sandow controlled the match and focused his assault on Santino's neck. Later on, Sandow started smashing Santino's face into the turnbuckle, and Santino began to hulk up. It went nowhere, however, and Sandow floored Santino before scoring with the Elbow of Disdain for a two count.

Santino hit a side slam out of nowhere and began to work through his comedy set. Santino set up for the Cobra, but Sandow rolled from the ring. Sandow caught Santino on his way back into the ring and hit The Silencer for the pinfall victory…

Damian Sandow defeated Santino Marella in 9:56.

Sandow did his "still Uncrowded World Champion" bit after the match…

Ryan's Reaction: Decent match. Santino's act has long since worn thin with me, but he kept his comedy spots to a minimum and spent most of the match wrestling. Sandow needs more wins and he needs them quick, he came off as the lesser star of this match after all the damage WWE has done to him since he won the briefcase.

[Q2] [C] This week's Michael Cole and Triple H interview saw Cole asking about Triple H's mockery of Big Show's crying act. Triple H said Big Show needed to keep his personal business at home and he was showing Show how he looks to the rest of the world. Triple H said Big Show was going to be in a handicap match against the Shield on Smackdown because that's what is best for business, and what's best for business is what is best for the Big Show…

2. The Wyatt Family (w/ Bray Wyatt) vs. The Primetime Players. Luke Harper started the match off opposite Darren Young. Harper knocked Young to the mat and tagged in Erik Rowan, and Young tagged in O'Neill.

O'Neill and Young worked a quick tag to keep Rowan at bay, but Rowan managed to hit a spinning back kick on Young. The heels kept Young on their side of the ring and wore the man down with power moves and body shots.

Young got the got tag off to O'Neill, and O'Neill managed to get both of his opponents off their feet. Rowan ran in long enough to distract O'Neill, however, and O'Neill turned around into a discus clothesline from Harper. Harper covered O'Neill for the win...

The Wyatt Family defeated The Primetime Players in 4:21

Wyatt entered the ring after the match and hit Sister Abigail on O'Neill…

Ryan's Reaction: Solid match. The Wyatt Family still has a certain mystique about their group and their in-ring style that keeps one watching the screen. I can only hope WWE has a plan for the group to keep them from stagnating while waiting for a story.

[Q3] [C] 3. Curtis Axel (w/ Paul Heyman) vs. Zack Ryder. Ryder outpaced Axel early, but Axel managed to gain the advantage after a shot to the back of the head. Axel began to work over Ryder.

Ryder hit a brief flurry off offense and hit the Broski Boot, but Axel held the ropes to stay in the corner. Axel dragged Ryder face-first into the turnbuckle and followed with his finisher for the 1-2-3... [C]

Curtis Axel defeated Zack Ryder in 3:45.

Ryan's Reaction: Standard enhancement match. There's not much to be gained from a quick victory over Ryder these days, but it served the purpose of making Axel look a little stronger heading into Battleground.

[Q4] The announcers set up a recap of the 'family summit" segment between the McMahons and the Rhodes… [C]

4. Tons of Funk (w/ The Funkadactyls) vs. The Real Americans (w/ Zeb Colter). The Real Americans took and early advantage and began to work over Brodus Clay's legs. Cesaro swung Clay around the ring by his legs. The heels worked quick tags to wear down Clay.

Sweet T got the hot tag and hit a rolling senton on Cesaro. Swagger caused a distraction long enough for Cesaro to set up and hit the Neutralizer. Cesaro covered Sweet T for the pinfall victory.

The Real Americans defeated Tons of Funk in 4:34.

Ryan's Reaction: Decent match, but too short to amount to anything. That was pretty much the story of the night, plenty of decent to solid action, but nothing that really amounted to anything memorable. Thanks for following along with me this evening.
