9/11 Shore's WWE Main Event live coverage: Antonio Cesaro vs. Kofi Kingston
Sep 11, 2013 - 07:00 PM

By Chris Shore

WWE Main Event on ION
Taped on 9/10 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

[Q1] The opening video aired, followed by Kofi Kingston's entrance. Josh Matthews and Miz checked in on commentary. Antonio Cesaro and Zeb Colter were out next. Matthews covered for Swagger by saying he was a real American who refused to be on Canadian soil…

1. Kofi Kingston vs. Antonio Cesaro (w/Zeb Colter). Cesaro hit a flying forearm at the bell and took control. Kofi came back and hit a head scissor that spilled Cesaro to the floor. Kofi went out and Cesaro tried to whip him into the stairs. Kofi jumped over the stairs and then used them to jump into a dive. Back in the ring, Cesaro hit his gut wrench suplex. Kofi reversed a whip to the corner and charged in. Cesaro dumped him over the top rope into the break…[C]

Back from commercial, Kofi started his come back and hit the Boom Drop. Kofi went for his kick, but Cesaro ducked. Kofi hit a high cross body for two. Kofi went for a head scissor, but Cesaro caught him and popped him up into the Very European uppercut. Kofi tried for a small package, but Cesaro powered him up into a vertical suplex hold. Kofi hit a knee to the head and the SOS for two.

Kofi went for SOS again but Cesaro caught him and did the airplane spin for 37 seconds according to Miz. That's probably a shoot number. Cesaro hit a clothesline for two. He went for the Neutralizer, but Kofi escaped and hit Trouble in Paradise for the win…

Kofi Kingston defeated Antonio Cesaro at 13:29.

[Q2] Post-match, Kofi celebrated as the announce team set him up for next in line to the Intercontinental Championship…[C]

Shore's Slant: Holy shit, that was great! What a pleasant surprise. Kofi got a good win and Cesaro looked great in defeat. And they did it with two guys who have no real reason to be facing each other. Cesaro is in the tag scene, Kofi in the singles. But they built Cesaro throughout the match and then Kofi came back. Well done, WWE.

A video recapped the CM Punk vs. Paul Heyman feud…Tons of Funk, sans the Funkadactyls, made their ring entrance to join commentary. Oh god, no. The Prime Time Players were out next. Tons of Funk tried to play it straight on commentary, but they were wearing purple velvet suits and big gold chains. Nobody were taking them seriously. Jinder Mahal and Heath Slater were out next…

2. The Prime Time Players vs. 3MB. Josh Matthews actually said, "3MB gets it done once the bell rings," on the day JR retired. Shameful. Titus stomped Mahal in the corner while blowing the whistle. Slater tagged in and Young hit an elbow to keep control.

[Q3] The Players hit a combo front suplex splash on Slater and then took out Mahal into the break…[C] Back from commercial, the Players stayed in control until Jinder used a ref distraction to hit a knee on Young and take control. Titus got the hot tag and threw both 3MB members around. Titus hit his finisher for the win…

The Prime Time Players defeated 3MB.

Shore's Slant: Fair tag match, but they didn't get 3MB over enough to really make a difference when the finish came. It was a tough act to follow too, even with the video package as a buffer.

[Q4] A video recapped Daniel Bryan's saga, all the way up through this Monday…R-Truth made his ring entrance…[C] Big E Langston made his ring entrance. Hey, I remember that guy…

3. R-Truth vs. Big E Langston. Truth tossed Langston to the floor and dove on him. Back in the ring, Langston hit a couple of backbreakers across the knee. Truth came back and hit a DDT for two. He went for the axe kick, but Langston hit his body tackle and the Big Ending for the win…

big El Langston defeated R-Truth at 5:17.

Shore's Slant: Snooze fest of a match. I like Langston, but Truth is a shell of whatever he was before. He's bland and predictable and completely uninteresting. I hate that because I thought he might do more this time around. Sadly he didn't. Thanks for watching along tonight.
