8/7 Kester's WWE Main Event Live Coverage Review: Mark Henry and The Uso Brothers vs. The Shield, Natalya vs. Aksana, and Curtis Axel vs. Sin Cara
Aug 7, 2013 - 07:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

Main Event on Ion Television
Taped earlier in Rockford, Illinois.

[Q1] 1. The Shield vs. Mark Henry and the Uso Brothers. Rollins and Jimmy Uso started the match. Jimmy managed to gain the upper hand and tagged in his brother for a series of team spots. Rollins tagged out to Ambrose, but The Usos managed to retain control.

Henry tagged into the match to a strong reaction from the live crowd. Henry worked over Ambrose until Reigns caused a distraction. Henry cleared Reigns and Ambrose from the ring and The Usos cut off Rollins from attacking Henry from behind.

An Uso hit Rollins with a wrecking ball and Henry set up to do the same, but the Shield dragged Rollins to the floor. The Shield regrouped on the outside… [C]

Back from the break, the babyfaces continued to get the best of The Shield. Reigns managed to catch Jimmy Uso with an elbow, and the Shield began working quick tags to keep him on their side of the ring.

Jey Uso got the hot tag, but Rollins quickly caught him with an enziguri before he could mount much of an offense. The heels continued to dominate the latter half of the match.

[Q2] Eventually, Jey got the hot tag off to Henry, and Henry wasted no time in running through The Shield. Henry tagged Jimmy Uso back into the match, but Rollins hit a curb stomp out of nowhere. Dean Ambrose covered the fallen Uso for the 1-2-3… [C]

The Shield defeated Mark Henry and The Uso Brothers in 14:59.

Ryan's Reaction: Theta was a great tag match. The live crowd was hot for the action throughout, and the two teams managed to work in a few new spots from their previous encounters. This still feels like a holding pattern for all six men, but for tonight it delivered an entertaining match.

The Shield cut a promo backstage about how men like Mark Henry were tired wastes of space. Dean Ambrose put over himself and his partners as the new measurement stick for the industry. Rollins said that no one could catch them. Reigns said there is no end to them, there is no end to Justice. Reigns said, "Believe in that, believe in The Shield."

The announcers set up a recap of Natalya slapping Brie Bella on Raw.

2. Natalya vs. Aksana. Natalya got the better of Aksana early and locked her in a series of rest holds. Natalya went for the Sharpshooter, but Aksana managed to kick her off.

[Q3] Aksana got in a few shots to Natalya's legs, but Natalya managed to get Aksana in the Sharpshooter. Aksana resisted for a bit, but she eventually tapped out… [C]

Natalya defeated Aksana in 4:57.

Ryan's Reaction: The effort was there, but the match was pretty sloppy. The two women simply seemed like they couldn't get on the same page. I like Natalya, but her moveset is really limited in these short matches; she looks foolish going for the Sharpshooter so early when it's always countered.

The Raw Rebound focused on CM Punk and Brock Lesnar brawling… [C]

[Q4] Paul Heyman joined the announcers for the main event.

3. Curtis Axel vs. Sin Cara in a non-title match. The Sin Cara mood lighting returned. The two men traded control several times, but Sin Cara dumped Axel to the floor and followed with a suicide dive.

Sin Cara went for his kick from the apron, but Axel caught him and landed a running shoulder block to knock Sin Cara to the floor… [C]

Back from the break, Axel was in control and locked Sin Cara in a rest hold. Sin Cara had a few hope spots, but Axel kept getting the better of him.

Sin Cara made a late comeback with a flurry of arm drags and kicks. He hit a high cross body for a near fall. Sin Cara followed with a jumping reverse DDT for another.

Sin Cara flew for a moonsault, but Axel got his foot up. Axel hit his finisher for the pinfall victory.

Curtis Axel defeated Sin Cara in 14:36.

Ryan's Reaction: Decent enough match. The debate between the announcers and Paul Heyman on commentary took away from the action considerably, but by the final few minutes kept a good pace. Overall, this was a better than average edition of Main Event, and we managed to get two longer contests and only one lengthy video package. Thanks for following along with me this evening.
