6/12 Kester's WWE Main Event Live Coverage Review: The Miz vs. Cody Rhodes, Sin Cara vs. Damien Sandow, Tons of Funk vs. The Uso Brothers
Jun 12, 2013 - 07:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

Main Event on Ion Television
Taped 6/12/13 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

[Q1] Wade Barrett joined Josh Matthews for the evening on commentary…

1. The Miz vs. Cody Rhodes. Miz took control early and grounded Rhodes with a headlock. The two began battling for control and momentum shifted several times in rapid succession.

Miz went for the figure-four early and ate a kick from Rhodes for his effort… [C]

Back from the break, Rhodes began to work over Miz' arm. Rhodes controlled the majority of the action as he focused his entire offense on the injured limb.

[Q2] Miz began making his comeback and hit a flurry of offense on Rhodes. Miz sold some arm pain off of a flying double axe handle, and Rhodes went back to work on the arm. Miz went for the Skull Crushing Finale, but Rhodes countered and threw him into a post.

Rhodes hit Beautiful Disaster for a near fall, but Miz came right back and locked in the figure-four leglock for the submission victory… [C]

The Miz defeated Cody Rhodes in 14:40

Ryan's Reaction: Miz needs a lot more than the figure-four to make him feel fresh again. As it stands, it feels like a tacked on idea to a tired act than it does a real evolution, and it's the lack of growth that makes it difficult to invest in his character. The match itself was solid enough, but there simply hasn't been enough compelling stories around these two acts for me to care about their pairing.

Damien Sandow made his entrance and talked about how he would have to dumb himself down so that people could understand him. He said tonight was the start of his expressing himself through more physical means. Sandow promised to beat up the crowd's hero, Sheamus.

[Q3] 2. Damien Sandow vs. Sin Cara. Sin Cara's mood lighting was back and Wade Barrett commented on its ridiculous nature. Sandow grounded Sin Cara early.

Sin Cara began to get some momentum going and Sandow retreated up the ramp… [C]

Back form the break, Sandow regained control and began working over Sin Cara's midsection. Sin Cara came back with an impressive flurry of offense, but Sandow managed to hit Sin Cara with The Silencer for the pinfall victory.

Damien Sandow defeated Sin Cara in 8:37.

Ryan's Reaction: Good match that was hindered by the giant commercial break in the middle. I like Sandow's new finisher and his more midsection-based offense rather than his previous focus on his opponents' neck.

[Q4] A recap of the Ryback and John Cena feud aired… [C]

3. Tons of Funk (w/ The Funkadactyls) vs. The Uso Brothers. Clay and Jey Uso clowned around for a bit until Jey slapped Clay in the face. Clay got serious and Tons of Funk began to manhandle the Usos.

Jimmy tagged into the match and worked Clay over with kicks, but Clay came back with a head butt to Jimmy's chest. Clay nailed a running splash on Jimmy Uso, but Jey broke up the pin. Jey took care of Sweet T and the Usos scored a double superkicks on Clay.

Jey Uso followed with a Superfly Splash for the 1-2-3.

The Uso Brothers defeated Tons of Funk in 4:01.

Ryan's Reaction: That match was entirely forgettable, It's nice to see The Usos push continuing, but they won't gain much from a four minute match with a team that's jobbed so much so recently. Overall, this was a pretty flat edition of Main Event. The matches were all solid at best and there was only a little bit of hype for Payback.
