5/15 Kester's WWE Main Event Live Coverage Review: Kane vs. Seth Rollins, Wade Barrett vs. Sin Cara, and Cody Rhodes vs. Justin Gabriel
May 15, 2013 - 07:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

Main Event on Ion Television
Taped 5/14/13 in Wichita, Kansas.

[Q1] Miz returned to commentary…

1. Seth Rollins (w/ Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns) vs. Kane. Cole explained that Daniel Bryan had a prior commitment and was unable to be on the show to support Kane. Kane got in some early offense and began to work over Rollins' midsection. Kane went for an early tombstone, but Rollins squirmed out and rolled to the floor.

Kane stayed in the ring and waited for Rollins to return. When he did, Kane threw him back to ringside and onto Roman Reigns. Rollins sold on the floor… [C]

Back from the break, Kane remained in control until Rollins hit a spinning kick off of a chokeslam reversal. Rollins began to work over Kane with a series of holds.

[Q2] Kane hit a sidewalk slam and set up for a flying clothesline. He was distracted by the other Shield members and Rollins dropkicked Kane to the floor… [C]

Kane battled out of another Rollins' rest hold, and the two men traded control several times. Kane went for several chokeslam attempts, but Rollins managed to battle out again and again. Eventually, Kane scored the chokeslam, but the rest of the Shield members stormed the ring and broke the pin, casing a disqualification.

Kane defeated Seth Rollins via DQ in 17:08.

The Shield continued its assault after the match. They set up for the Triple Powerbomb, but the Uso Brothers ran out to make the save. The Shield rolled out and regrouped, and the Usos and Kane celebrated in the ring…

The announcers set up a replay of John Cena fighting The Shield alone at the end of the six-man elimination tag match on Raw…

Ryan's Reaction: Great match with plenty of back and forth action. We got to see a little more of Rollins' capabilities, but I look forward to the day when he can work more of his athletic capability into a match and utilize less on rest holds.

[Q3] [C] A video package covering the Triple H and Brock Lesnar feud aired… [C]

[Q4] 2. Sin Cara vs. Wade Barrett. The Sin Cara mood lighting made its triumphant return. Barrett dominated the early going, but Sin Cara managed to get in a quick flurry of offense.

Barrett hit Winds of Change for a near fall. Barrett followed with a powerbomb into a turnbuckle. He set up for a second and Sin Cara reversed it into a roll-up for the pinfall victory… [C]

Sin Cara Defeated Wade Barrett in 3:37.

Ryan's Reaction: This was a pretty throwaway match. The mood lighting gave away who WWE was focusing on, and there was so little time allotted for the match that nothing was really accomplished.

3. Justin Gabriel vs. Cody Rhodes. The two men traded control several times in the early going. Gabriel eventually settled in and nailed some crowd-pleasing spots.

Rhodes hit an Alabama Slam for a near fall and followed with Cross Rhodes to put Gabriel away quickly…

Cody Rhodes defeated Justin Gabriel in 3:06.

Ryan's Reaction: Much like the previous match, this was a solid effort let down by the amount of time they were given. Overall, the show was ok. The first half was a lot of fun, but the show's format works better with two long matches than it does with one long one and two barely there matches.
