5/2 Gutteridge's WWE NXT TV review: Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt, Summer Rae vs. Paige, and Bo Dallas and Adrian Neville vs. Luke Harper and Erick Rowan vs. Epico and Primo in a Triple Threat tag match
May 3, 2013 - 02:27 PM

By Darren Gutteridge

WWE NXT on Sky Sports 3
Taped on 3/21 in Winter Park, Florida

[Q1] A Chris Jericho hype video aired before titles, ahead of his match with Bray Wyatt...

After titles, Primo and Epico made their entrance, as Tony Dawson introduced both William Regal and Brad Maddox on commentary. As Luke Harper and Erick Rowan came out, without Bray Wyatt, Regal said he was looking forward to seeing Jericho tonight, although he still doesn’t like him. Bo Dallas and Adrian Neville entered to round off the teams for this triple threat...

1. Bo Dallas and Adrian Neville vs. Luke Harper and Erick Rowan vs. Epico and Primo in a triple threat elimination tag match. In the early going, as Dallas and Neville isolated Rowan, a few guys in the crowd booed when Dallas tagged in, and cheered when Neville tagged in. I didn’t pick up on the dissent last week like Zim did, but it’s very evident this week. Dallas and Neville stayed in control right up to the break, when Dallas threw Epico to the outside... [C]

[Q2] Rowan and Harper were dominating when we returned, wearing down Dallas. When Primo got a blind tag, he continued to cut Dallas off from Neville. He and Epico picked up the pace with quick tags and springboard stomps and splashes.  A vocal “No more Bo” chant started as Dallas got the hot tag to Neville, who quickly took down Primo and hit a standing Shooting Star Press.

After Epico broke the resulting pin up, Dallas speared him, and then took the Wyatt Family off of the apron too. Neville used this to sucker Primo into the corner, hit him with a roundhouse kick, and then land the corkscrew Shooting Star press for the first pin...

Epico and Primo were eliminated in 9:59.

Harper rushed into the ring, and nailed a massive clothesline on Neville for the second pin...

Luke Harper and Erick Rowan eliminated Adrian Neville and Bo Dallas in 10:08 to win.

Luke Harper could be heard saying “yeah yeah yeah” over and over again as he and Rowan stood in the ring after the match...

Gutt Reaction: A solid tag match. The triple threat aspect allowed for an absence of any kind of mid match lull, as every new person tagging in brought a lot of energy. I kind of understand the hazing of Dallas. I put it down to apathy as opposed to hate, as he hasn’t shown anything special that warrants being a featured guy on the show, but hasn’t exactly been bad either (in the ring at least). I for one would cut the untested guys some slack while in the arena, as they are still learning while in NXT, and are by no means the finished product.

A video package chronicling the feud between Paige and Summer Rae aired. Summer Rae, for those not keeping track, is now Fandango’s dance partner...

After a Sheamus promotional video, Paige made her entrance, but was attacked from behind on the ramp by Rae. Rae threw Paige in the ring, but as Rae slid in, Paige attacked her, and the bell rang...

2. Paige vs. Summer Rae. Rae tried to escape, but Paige kept bouncing her off the ropes and back into the ring. Paige slapped Rae, and then hit a fisherman suplex for a two count. The two ended up brawling and rolling around on the mat, before Rae rolled to the outside... [C]

[Q3] Summer pushed Paige into the ropes when we returned, and started to work on Paige’s left leg. She applied an Indian Deathlock, which Maddox said should be called the “Native American Deathlock” now. A funny Maddox joke?!?! It’s been a while. Paige got to the ropes to break the hold, and when she got back up, she hit Summer with a kick to the abdomen to regain control. Paige started throwing Summer around the ring, which ended with Summer on the outside.

Summer started to walk up the ramp, but Paige slid out of the ring to grab her, before throwing her into the apron, which Summer took like a champ. When they both got back in the ring, Summer tried to hit Paige with a spinning roundhouse kick, but Paige reversed it into the Paige Turner, giving her the win...

Paige defeated Summer Rae in 7:35.

Regal questioned if this was truly the end of the rivalry, as Paige celebrated. Dawson teased Jericho vs. Wyatt, and explained that if Jericho loses, he must join the Wyatt family...

Gutt Reaction: ... Which is news to the UK fans, as they decided to edit out the Jericho / Wyatt segment from last weeks show. They always cut the most interesting part. Anyway, a good Divas match from the two leading ladies on NXT. You know why? Because they took their time to build a story, which ended with a worthwhile payoff! It’s not hard guys!

A “Breaking News” segment aired, as Dawson talked over footage of Neville and Oliver Grey. He said with Grey inactive for 6 months, Neville has chosen Dallas to replace Grey as his fellow Tag Team Champion, and because of the Wyatt Family’s victory earlier in the night, they two teams will meet next week for the Tag Titles...

Bray Wyatt, with Rowan and Harper, came out saying the World deserves a hero like him, who stands up for what he believes in “no matter the cost”. He said tonight is the biggest choice of his career, because he can either fight or faint against a 6 time world champion. He promised to “break down the wall tonight”. Jericho made his entrance, complete with the light up jacket. Jericho doesn’t cheap out on NXT...

3. Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt. Maddox called Jericho his ‘hero’. Jericho got all the early going, building up to a crossbody from the top rope for a two count. As Wyatt crawled to the corner, Rowan grabbed Jericho’s leg, and this caused the ref to eject him from ringside, as we went to the final commercial... [C]

[Q4] Harper stayed at ringside, and Wyatt used it to his advantage by throwing Jericho to the outside, distracting the ref, and allowing Harper to hit a big boot. Wyatt dropped elbows on Jericho back in the ring, and started taunting him. Following a few headlocks, Wyatt hit a big snap suplex and went for the running senton. Jericho moved, and this allowed him to pick up steam, leading to his running bulldog. As Harper climbed on the apron, Jericho dropkicked him off, only to be hit by a clothesline from Wyatt for a two count.

Jericho got back up and hit an enziguri for his own two count. He whipped Wyatt into the ropes, but got caught by a running cross body on the rebound. After another close two count, Wyatt picked up Jericho, but got dropped by the Codebreaker. Wyatt rolled outside, and when Jericho threw him back into the ring, Harper grabbed him and threw him into the ringpost. The ref didn’t see it, so Wyatt capitalized by throwing punches at a cornered Jericho, before setting up his Sister Abigail finisher. Jericho escaped, and went for the Walls. Harper again got on the apron, so Jericho slingshot Wyatt into him, before applying the Walls at the second attempt for the submission victory...

Chris Jericho defeated Bray Wyatt in 10:19.

All three commentators praised the match, and Maddox promised to be back next week to continue his “Vince and Jesse” relationship with Regal. Jericho climbed into the crowd and held up a Jericho sign as NXT went off the air...

Gutt Reaction: A great match, but I expected it to be. Jericho had one or two rough looking spots near the end, but overall the match flowed nicely, and the pretty obvious result didn’t detract from the near falls. If they had faith in Dallas to make the jump, surely Bray isn’t far away from a main roster transition?

A stellar edition of NXT. Three good matches, and although thin on any story telling, this was the last show of this particular taping day, so we may get a few storylines starting next week. NXT is hoting up again!
