10/13 Twilling's WWE Raw Live Coverage: Johnny Knoxville confronts The Great Khali, Rey Mysterio and Matt Hardy vs. Mark Henry and Kane; The Miz, John Morrison, and Jillian vs. Cryme Tyme and Kelly Kelly
By Rich Twilling Oct 13, 2008 - 10:01 PM

WWE Raw on the USA Network
Live from Anaheim, CA

[Q1] Chris Jericho spoke with Mike Adamle backstage and was upset that Adamle went over his head last week. Adamle reminded Jericho that he was the boss. Adamle said Batista would choose Jericho's opponent tonight and Jericho would choose Batista's opponent. Jericho said he was going to go over Adamle's head and go to Shane and Stephanie McMahon. Adamle said they turn their phones off during the show.

Jericho left Adamle's office. He walked by Candice Michelle, Mickie James, and Jamie Noble, who were texting. Jericho went to the ring and said it would be unfair to him to lose the title because of an unbiased, uhhh, biased referee.

He went through each guy and told Shane and Stephanie why they would screw Jericho. He said Austin would screw him because he is still mad about losing to Jericho on the night Jericho beat Austin and Rock to become the World Heavyweight Championship.

Shawn Michaels came out to the ring. He said he would like to tell Jericho he would call it down the middle if he was voted in as the referee. However, he admitted he would do everything he could to make sure Cyber Sunday is the worst day of Jericho's life.

He said he was not going to politic for votes. He was going to do what McCain and Obama wish they could do to each other, and he punched Jericho. Jericho retreated to the back and came back out with a microphone. He announced that Batista would face Shawn Michaels tonight... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Good segments; they put over the voting and the choices. Jericho was very good. Michaels was very good too. Michaels vs. Batista tonight suddenly turns this into a much better show.

Footage was shown of the Mysterio and Hardy vs. Henry and Kane tag team match from last week. Mysterio vs. Kane was added to Cyber Sunday. We can choose between two out of three falls, falls count anywhere, or no disqualification, I think. Too bad one of the choices is not, "No thank you."...

[Q2] 1. Rey Mysterio and Matt Hardy defeated Kane and Mark Henry (with Tony Atlas) in 5:15. Johnny Knoxville was shown sitting in the audience. Hardy and Henry began the match. Hardy received a double team beatdown in the opening minutes. In a cool spot, Kane blocked a Twist of Fate so Hardy hit a DDT instead. Mysterio tagged in got the best of Kane.

When Mysterio went after Henry, Kane hit Mysterio with a phantom punch. Mysterio hit the 619 on Kane. Henry came around the ring on the floor and was cut off by Hardy. Henry caught Hardy but Mysterio hit a West Coast Pop on Henry. He then went to the top and jumped at Kane. Kane hit a big boot for the win. After the match, Mysterio got the best of an attack perpetrated by Kane...

Twill's Two Cents: Not quite as good as last week but still a fun five minute match.

Todd "I need two paychecks" Grisham interviewed Batista backstage. Batista gave Jericho credit for being smart. He said he and Michaels had no love lost for each other and that Michaels had a lot of pent up rage. He said if Michaels tried to take him out, he would beat him to the punch... [C]

[Q3] 2. JBL defeated Haas Hogan in 1:24. JBL's driver parked the limousine too close to the railing and JBL had trouble getting out. JBL cut a promo in favor of the bailout and Congress. He said the poor will always be here but the rich must be protected. He said he was America. He called himself a Real American.

Cue Hulk Hogan's music. Charlie Haas, as "Haas Hogan," came out and did a decent job with Hogan's mannerisms. JBL's reactions of "What the hell" were very well done. Haas hit the big boot but missed the leg drop. JBL took the opportunity and hit the Closeline from Hell for the win...

Grisham interviewed Johnny Knoxville and the Jackass crew. Some photos from Knoxville's website were shown making fun of Khali. They actually spelled "Khali" incorrectly (Kahli). Knoxville said he did not bring his midgets but could not wait to see WWE's... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Are these guys funny? What is their appeal? The one guy was wearing a Steelers' shirt and someone should rip it off of him.

A new John Cena video aired. Triple H, Edge, Batista, JBL, Jeff Hardy, Dan Cena, Jim Ross, Shawn Michaels, Mickie James, and Maria all put Cena over. They showed footage of Cena vs. RVD at One Night Stand. This was another solid video package that mentioned Cena's return...

Randy Orton came out to the stage in his new "Age of Orton" shirt. Orton wondered why no one made positive comments about him. He said he broke his collarbone and finished a match, but he is no John Cena. "Thank God." Orton told the fans not to vote for him. He said it did not matter who won because Orton will become the champion again...

[Q4] Cole and King gave the fans the directions regarding voting for the special referee in the Batista vs. Jericho match...

Batista was shown walking through the backstage area... [C]

3. Batista vs. Shawn Michaels ended in a no contest in 15:06. Batista was lazy in his entrance. He stayed in his crouch for only a second or two. Michaels threw his shirt to a guy holding a sign that said, "HBK is my dad." Before the bell rang, Jericho appeared on the Titantron and made the match a Lumberjack match. A bunch of heels came out to the ring... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Why wouldn't Jericho just make a 17 on 1 match like Triple H did way back when?

Michaels locked in a figure four leg lock. Cole did a nice job of reminding everyone that these two began a feud because of their disagreements regarding Ric Flair. Batista scored the first nearfall after hitting a running powerslam.

[Q5] Batista hit a huge back body drop for another two count. He continued to work on the lower back with a leg scissors followed by a series of forearms. Michaels tried to hit Sweet Chin Music. Batista blocked it and threw Michaels over the top rope. Michaels skinned the cat and ran into a Black Hole slam for a two count.

Batista closelined Michaels to the floor. Everyone stood back as Mark Henry put Michaels in a bearhug. He then threw Michaels back into the ring and Batista scored another nearfall... [C]

Batista had a bearhug locked on Michaels coming back from commercial. Jericho watched from a backstage monitor. Batista went to the floor and Orton tried to punt him but missed. Back in the ring, William Regal distracted the referee and JBL pushed Michaels off of the top rope.

Michaels walked right into a spinebuster. He tried a Batista Bomb but Michaels held onto the head scissors and dragged himself and Batista to the floor. The lumberjacks went off and the ring was quickly filled. The referee called for the bell. Michaels hit Sweet Chin Music on JBL before JBL could attack Batista. Batista hit a spear on Mark Henry before he could attack Michaels. Jericho did not look pleased...

After the replays, Michaels and Batista remained in the ring. Batista put forth his hand for a handshake. Michaels accepted the offer as Jericho looked on with disdain. Batista celebrated in the ring as Michaels headed to the back...

Twill's Two Cents: I actually enjoyed the slower pace and Batista working on Michaels' lower back. While it was not a great match, it was solid and I enjoyed it.

[Q6] Cole and King went over the voting stipulations for Triple H, Jeff Hardy, and Vladimir Kozlov... [C]

Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix came out to the ring. King ran down the three challengers that could possibly face Santino at Cyber Sunday. They showed old footage of each one. Santino put up the Honk-A-Meter. He said in a year, he would only be weeks away from beating Honky's record. He said if you text the racist term, Honky, he may win the competition.

Santino called out Johnny Knoxville. He brought Knoxville into the ring and asked him why he was stupid enough to make fun of Khali. Knoxville said "you dudes probably get asked all of the time how big your tallywhackers are." Beth took offense to this and hit the single worst slap I have ever seen. She then picked up Knoxville for a body slam and Knoxville sold it incorrectly, nearly breaking his neck.

Hornswoggle came out and hit the tadpole splash on Knoxville. Big Dick Johnson came out, stripped, and began dancing. Knoxville's boy stripped as well and the two danced together. The Boogeyman came out, closelined that guy and spit worms in his mouth. Knoxville got up and plugged his site. Khali and Ranjin Singh finally came out. Khali put Knoxville in the vice grip and then hit the Khali Bomb...

Twill's Two Cents: Let me get this straight. A segment that featured Johnny Knoxville, Hornswoggle, Big Dick Johnson, and The Boogeyman, and Khali was the most entertaining of the bunch? Wow. By the way, would it have taken Knoxville breaking his neck for WWE to stop doing this shit with untrained celebrities?

[Q7] Kelly Kelly and Shad were walking through the backstage area. They approached JTG, who was going through someone's bag. He pulled out an Anaheim Ducks mask. Shad asked JTG if he liked hockey; JTG said he did not like hockey but he did like ice, while pointing at his necklace... [C]

Footage aired of Kelly vs. Jillian featuring the dueling commentating. Morrison, Miz, and Jillian stood in the ring. Morrison said they are better in the ring and they are more gangsta too. They cut a rap and Jillian added a pop feel to each lyric. Miz was actually pretty good...

4. Kelly Kelly and Cryme Tyme defeated The Miz, John Morrison, and Jillian in 3:19. When a nearfall was broken up, chaos ensued. The distraction allowed Cryme Tyme to use the Ducks' mask and score the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Kelly is hot. Meghan is too.

A graphic showing Chris Jericho and his mystery opponent was shown... [C]

[Q8] Michael Cole talked over a "Did you know?" graphic. Cole then announced Big Show vs. Undertaker at Cyber Sunday. The voting information will be revealed this Friday on Smackdown. Footage aired of Taker being knocked out by Big Show by No Mercy was shown...

Chris Jericho made his ring entrance and the show went to commercial for hopefully the final time tonight... [C]

5. C.M. Punk defeated Chris Jericho in a non-title match in 6:09. Interesting choice. Batista appeared on the Titantron and named himself the special guest referee. Batista went Incredible Hulk on his referee shirt. Punk tried to win the match quickly with a schoolboy but only scored a two count. Jericho tried to leave but Batista went after him and threw him back into the ring.

Punk locked in a modified Anaconda Vice around the ropes ala the tarantula. Batista did not break the move. Jericho finally gained an advantage by pulling Punk from the middle rope.

[Overrun] Jericho hit a vertical suplex and a senton for a very slow one count. Punk hit a series of moves and tried the GTS. Jericho countered with the Codebreaker. Batista counted to two and stood up because there was "something in his eye." He hit the Batista Bomb on Jericho. Punk covered him for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Well, that probably did more harm for Punk than good. Batista was solid but predictable in the guest referee role.
