WWE TV Reports
10/10 Hermanstyne's WWE Smackdown Coverage: No Mercy aftermath, eight-man tag team action, Great Khali in Action, Triple H vs. Big Show for the WWE Championship
By Marvin Hermanstyne Oct 10, 2008 - 09:01 PM

WWE Friday Night Smackdown on MyNetwork TV
Spokane, Wash.

[Q1] The show started with the video of the Big Show versus Undertaker at No Mercy. Jim Ross announced that the WWE Title will be defended tonight with Triple H facing the Big Show....

Vickie Guerrero was in a neckbrace and a wheelchair with Chavo Guerrero in the ring for a promo. She talked about how she was attacked by the Undertaker. Big Show came out and talked about the fans believing in the Undertaker. Show said that he felt solid bone cracked from the Undertaker's face and if we didn't believe him, check out the video was shown from No Mercy.

After the video, Show discussed his upcoming match with Triple H for later tonight. Vladimir Kozlov interrupted and said that he deserves a title shot. Big Show says: "He will give Kozlov two reasons to reconsider: One, he's a giant. Two, even if people don't like him, he is an American." And the crowd chanted USA....[C]

Mind of Marv: The heel heat between Vickie and Big Show is what made this segment gold, but we still had to endure Vickie's annoying voice and her botchy acting. As far as Kozlov, I am still commending this quick push for him. I am interested if he will be involved in the WWE Title match at Cyber Sunday.

[Q2] 1. Brie Bella defeated Natalya (w/Victoria). Brie Bella's name was backwards on the screen (Bella Brie). The match started with Bella attempting a series of nearfalls. Natalya knocked Bella down with a nasty clothesline. Bella crawled under the ring and Hornswoggle jumped out and chased Victoria. Bella crawled back under the ring and came out of the other side. Bella scored the win with the crucifix.

The announcers talked about John Cena and a video was shown of his recovery.....[C]

Mind of Marv: Is it me, or are they starting to bury the better women's wrestlers? It’s bad enough that they turned Victoria into a jobber, they now have Natalya jobbing to Bella or in this case, both twins? The crawling under the ring gimmick has run its course and they should go ahead and reveal her twin.

[Q3] Funaki was practicing a promo with himself and R-Truth joined him backstage. Funaki said that his middle name was Fu and his last name is Naki. His first name is Kung and Truth said his full name was "Kung Fu Naki." Truth preceded to freestyle his name using the Kung Fu fighting song.

Elsewhere, Triple H was shown text messaging on his I-Phone for the World Heavyweight Championship match. Jeff Hardy came and joined Triple H and told him good luck in his match later tonight. He left for three seconds and came back to say whoever is champion, he wants a title shot and pats him on the back.

R-Truth came through the crowd and had some fans say What's Up, during the hook of the song.... [C]

The show returns with Shelton Benjamin talking about economic points of the United States....

Mind of Marv: Benjamin is already boring on the stick, why bore us for 30 seconds with a promo about the US economy?

2. R-Truth defeated Shelton Benjamin. The match begun with Benjamin being very aggressive in a street fight type manner. Benjamin threw Truth into the rail post with power. Truth got back on the offense with a series of right hands. Truth countered Benjamin into a rollup for the win.

The announcers pubbed the Jeff Hardy and MVP match which is next.... [C]

Mind of Marv: That's two wins for Truth over Benjamin. This feud maybe setting up a US Title match for Cyber Sunday. But overall, this was a solid match to watch. They are really pushing Truth and it seems that Benjamin is getting buried. I see Truth getting the US Title in the future with this immediate push since his return.

[Q4] 3. Jeff Hardy defeated MVP. Hurricane Helms popped in the bubble and said the P in MVP means: Please. Please win a match. MVP began the match with a number a nearfalls. Hardy tried to give MVP a Swanton bomb but MVP crawled out of the ring and takes a timeout...[C]

[Q5] Hardy gave MVP a spinning mule kick. MVP countered with a kick to Hardy across the ring. MVP placed Hardy in a submission move and Hardy countered. Hardy got back on the offensive but MVP gave Hardy a face buster for a near fall. MVP locked Hardy in a gut wrench and Hardy countered with a Whisper in the Wind. Hardy hit the Swanton Bomb to win the match. Kozlov came out to attack Hardy.

They brawled for two seconds and Hardy attempted a Whisper in the Wind just to be countered by Kozlov giving Hardy a Battering Ram....[C]

Mind of Marv: MVP is a jobber, point blank. Since Summerslam, he hasn't beaten anyone of quality and it seems to get redundant with him getting pinned. So much talent getting wasted by the week. I have to agree with Hurricane Helms. But Kozlov makes another statement therefore is getting points on my part by the week.

A strange vignette of Kizarny was shown...

4. Carlito, Primo, Jesse and Festus defeated Curt Hawkins, Zach Ryder, Kenny Dkystra and Ryan Braddock. Maria was announced as the guest ring announcer for the match. Helms popped out again and say: "They (the heels) are a foursome of absolutely nothing, I'm just saying. The match begun with Festus clearing the ring after the bell is rang. The heels worked on Carlito for a series of nearfalls. Carlito hits Dykstra with a nice neckbreaker. Festus cleared house of the heels and scored the victory for the babyfaces....[C]

Mind of Marv: The heels only weigh around 950+ lbs? I guess that happens when you put four jobbers together, you get nothing. But anyway, this match was too short and could have qualified as an eight man squash match if Carlito wasn't a tackling dummie for the heels. This match had no interest and Maria being a guest announcer showed that she was just a filler.

The John Cena recovery saga continues.....

Mind of Marv: I despise the highly overrated C-E-N-A and his five moves of doom, that is all.

[Q6] The interview between Great Khali and Johnny Knoxville video and the Kiss Cam segment was shown...

5. The Great Khali squashed three jobbers. Two of the three men ran out of the ring and the remaining guy got the Khali chop and won the match in 10 seconds. The Kiss-cam begun and three women were showed and the last one was a overweight woman who was selected. Khali hesitated but he kissed the overweight woman....[C]

Mind of Marv: Its official, Khali is a sideshow freak. They have nothing to do with him so they make him look like an idiot and make him a silly babyface. How could they go from Lillian Garcia who is gorgeous to an overweight, sloppy woman? They have really lost their marbles in this segment. At least they could have gotten the second girl, because she was actually kind of cute.

[Q7] The Raw rebound is shown... Jim Ross runs down the possible referees for the World Heavyweight Championship match at Cyber Sunday. A replay of Kozlov destroying Jeff Hardy was shown and the match between the two is scheduled for next week. Kozlov says, "Next week he crushes Jeff Hardy. Next week he breaks Jeff Hardy in half"... Triple H makes his entrance....[C]

[Q8] 6. Triple H and Big Show ended in a no contest. Triple H started with a series of right hands but Show threw Triple H out of the ring. Triple H tried to get back on the offensive but Show knocked Triple H out of the ring with an lethal headbutt. Show gave Hunter an sidewalk slam....[C]

After the break, Show had Triple H in a neck submission which Hunter countered. Triple H hopped on Show and puts him in a sleeper hold. Triple H attempted a Pedigree but Show countered. Show attempted the Knockout punch but Hunter moved and got choke slammed. The lights went out and back on for Undertaker to punch the Big Show out. Show and Taker brawl to the back. Meanwhile, Kozlov and Triple H brawled in the ring. Kozlov gave Triple H an battering ram to lay him out. Jeff Hardy came out to help Hunter but he got and battering ram of his own. Kozlov celebrated and Triple H and Hardy attacked Kozlov in the ring. Out of nowhere, Hardy gave Triple H a Twist of Fate and stared Kozlov down. The crowd chanted USA to end the show.

Mind of Marv: Even though the match was an apparent no contest, it was nice to see that the Undertaker/Big Show feud is nowhere over and Taker got his revenge for getting knocked out on Sunday. As far as Kozlov getting a ton of TV time, I love every minute of his push. I wouldn't mind seeing Kozlov as WWE Champion this early in his career. As long as they can keep the belt off Jeff Hardy, I would be satisfied to the extreme. Jeff Hardy has really been showing some heelish tendencies with these random Twist of Fate on Triple H, but for some odd reason he is still over with the fans. Why?

But overall, this was a good show but not the best. It was vast improvement from Raw and ECW this week so I will leave it at that.
