10/10 Twilling's West Coast WWE Smackdown Coverage: Triple H defends the WWE Championship against The Big Show; Jeff Hardy vs. MVP
Oct 10, 2008 - 11:00 PM

WWE Smackdown on My Network TV
Taped 10/7/08 in Spokane, WA

[Q1] Footage was shown of Big Show knocking out The Undertaker last Sunday at No Mercy. It's hard to believe Show did not break his neck selling that DDT...

The new Smackdown video aired and Jim Ross immediately announced the main event of Triple H defending the WWE Championship against The Big Show...

Vickie Guerrero and Chavo Guerrero were in the ring. Vickie had a neck brace on and was in a wheelchair. Chavo's shirt made him look like a candy stripper. Vickie pointed out that The Undertaker attacked her two weeks ago. She said she is still feeling the pain and is once again confined to a wheelchair.

Vickie's mood changed when she talked about what happened this past Sunday at No Mercy. Vickie said she rewarded Big Show with a WWE Championship match tonight. She introduced "her friend," and Show came out to the ring. Vickie applauded while Chavo looked on with disdain.

Show said he told us so and no one believed him. Show ran some footage of knocking out Taker. He said his right hand was responsible for knocking out Chris Jericho, The Great Khali, and The Undertaker. I like that they remembered that. He said he was coming for Triple H. He said he would scramble Triple H's brains. By the end of the night, he would be WWE Champion.

Vladimir Kozlov's music hit and he came out to the ring. I just noticed how much he looks like my boy Lance Storm. Kozlov stepped up to Show and said something in Russian. You could make out that he is challenging the winner of tonight's championship match. Show gave him two reasons to reconsider. Number one, he is a giant. Number two, he is an American... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Good segment. Show came across as very strong and put over everything he should have. Kozlov added intrigue to the top program(s). Triple H coming out would have been predictable; this was well done.

[Q2] Did you know? Smackdown was the number one show last week for young viewers (2-17). Really? I am glad to see WWE is looking out for their preschool viewers...

1. Brie Bella defeated Natalya (with Victoria) in 3:02. They exchanged backslides and both scored nearfalls. Brie tried to slide under the ring but Victoria tried to stop her. She was met by Hornswoggle, who chased her off. "Brie" came out from both sides of the ring at separate times and hit a crucifix for the pinfall...

Twill's Two Cents: Time to move to the next step of this storyline.

JR and Tazz introduced the John Cena video that aired this past Monday on Raw... [C]

[Q3] Funaki practiced his "number one announcer" bit into his fist backstage. R-Truth approached him and said he needed a microphone in order to be the number one announcer on Smackdown. Truth asked Funaki what his full name was. He responded by saying his last name with Naki, his middle name was Fu, and his first name was Kung. That would make him "Kung Fu Naki." Truth sang "Kung Fu Fighting" to the tune of "Kung Fu Naki."...

Backstage, Triple H was text messaging. Jeff Hardy had a seat next to the champion. They agreed it was difficult to decide between Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin. Hardy said he watched their match back and that it was fantastic. He said regardless of who wins tonight, and he does not think it will be Triple H, he is making a challenge to the winner...

R-Truth made his entrance through the crowd. The audience loves this guy... [C]

Footage aired of Show knocking out The Great Khali with one punch. I like that they are building up to this championship match...

2. R-Truth defeated Shelton Benjamin in a non-title match in 5:01. Benjamin cut a pretaped promo saying he was the only safe investment there was. Shelton used his amateur wrestling skills to ground Truth but Truth came back with a corkscrew flying forearm for a long two count. The finish came when Shelton tried a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and Truth rolled over Shelton for the pin...

Twill's Two Cents: I like this feud. This match could have been better but the feud is going to continue so I am okay with this finish. This could be a very good PPV match.

Footage aired of the all of a sudden interesting Great Khali inviting Johnny Knoxville to Raw next week... [C]

[Q4] 3. Jeff Hardy defeated MVP in 11:32. Hurricane Helms popped up in his bubble saying the P in MVP stood for "Please. Please win a match. I'm just sayin'." Helms is awesome. It will be great to see him back in the ring. Hardy grounded Porter and went to the top rope. Porter slid to the floor. JR said MVP was one win away from a financial bonus in his contract... [C]

[Q5] MVP scored multiple nearfalls with a variety of impressive offense. Hardy came back for a moment but MVP hit a modified face buster for another two count. Hardy came back and hit the Swanton Bomb for the unspectacular win...

Twill's Two Cents: I enjoyed the match but the fact that the history between these two was not acknowledged at all sucked. MVP deserves better than this.

After the match, Vladimir Kozlov came out again and laid out Jeff Hardy... [C]

Wow. A vignette aired for someone called "Kizarny." He comes straight from a carnival apparently. I guess he also comes from 1995...

Justin Roberts introduced Maria as the special guest ring announcer. Maria looks pretty damn hot tonight...

4. Carlito and Primo Colon and Jesse and Festus defeated Zack Ryder, Curt Hawkins, Kenny Dykstra, and Ryan Braddock in 3:16. Popped up video Helms said the heel foursome strikes fear in the hearts of no one. He is just sayin'. JR likes Braddock. Too bad WWE doesn't like him more than they do Ricky Ortiz. All hell broke loose pretty quickly, allowing Festus to score the win. He gazed at Maria after the match...

[Q6] Footage was shown of Big Show knocking out Chris Jericho. Once again; very well done... [C]

Jimmy, Suzie, and Billy did not watch WWE No Mercy. Of course, they live in a black and white world so they probably did not have the ability to order the show...

Did you know? Smackdown was the most watched show in the history of My Network TV. That is saying a lot given all of the high quality programming they put on...

They aired the second John Cena video that aired on Monday. The superstars had a lot of good things to say about him. I think this will get fans on his side more than anything else he has done...

The Great Khali and Ranjin Singh stood in the ring. There were three local cats in the ring too. They aired the footage of Johnny Knoxville being a complete douche. They aired the Khali Kiss Cam again, which is just fine with me. He was hilarious on Monday night...

5. The Great Khali (with Ranjin Singh) defeated three random jobbers in :09. Khali quickly scored the pin and they looked for someone to be a part of the Kiss Cam. They brought a larger woman into the ring to kiss Khali. Khali was reluctant but he did it. The crowd cheered and he smiled... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I love Khali like this. He can be funny and entertaining.

[Q7] Footage aired of the new Hell in a Cell DVD package... [C]

The Raw Rebound aired and of course, it focused on the Chris Jericho vs. Batista situation...

Footage aired of the match between Jeff Hardy and MVP, which resulted in Vladimir Kozlov headbutting Hardy in the sternum. They announced Hardy vs. Kozlov for next week's show. Kozlov cut a promo saying he would crush Hardy and break him in half next week...

Twill's Two Cents: Nice job by WWE making this match for next week. Solid future booking here.

Triple H made his entrance for tonight's main event... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I like the buildup they did with the footage, but I would have liked to see something from Triple H saying how important this match is to him, maybe even playing off of history and him winning the title from Show on Raw back in 2000.

[Q8] 6. The Big Show defeated Triple H by disqualification in 9:50. Justin Roberts handled the in ring introductions. Show looked to use his overwhelming power early on and was successful in doing so. On the floor, Show ran himself into the ringpost. However, he was still able to get the best of the champ. Show hit a huge sidewalk slam as the show went to commercial... [C]

Show had H locked in a neck vice coming back from commercial. Show scored a nearfall with that Melina like leg drop move that he does. Triple H went to the second rope and locked in a sleeper hold. Show broke out of the move by slamming H. H hit the facebuster and tried the Pedigree, but Show hit a delayed backdrop. Ouch.

Show set up the knockout punch and missed. H hit multiple rights and charged at Show, who countered with a chokeslam. Instead of going for the cover, he picked up Triple H to hit him with the right to the back of the head. The lights went out and when they came back on, Undertaker appeared. Taker and Show fought to the back as the lights went on and off.

Vladimir Kozlov came down to the ring to attack Triple H. Jeff Hardy came down to assist The Game. Hardy and H fought off Kozlov. Unexpectedly, Hardy hit a Twist of Fate on Triple H and eyeballed Kozlov. JR called Jeff "Matt Hardy" but we know what he meant. They stared each other down as the show went off the air...

Twill's Two Cents: I enjoyed the championship match and I definitely enjoyed the post match action. They have created five legitimate main event talents on Smackdown. I can tell you that my good friend and loyal Dot Net reader, Joshua Lorenzo is happy about this because he has been telling me all week that he hopes Jeff Hardy will remain in the WWE Championship picture.

What did you think of the show? I enjoyed it. Let me know if you felt the same. As always, feel free to send an email to dotnetrich@gmail.com with your thoughts.
