ECW on the SciFi Network
Taped in Pittsburgh, PA
[Q1] The graphic was shown in memory of the great Killer Kowalski...
Without the opening video, The Dirt Sheet opened the show. The Miz and John Morrison put over the Championship Scramble and introduced their first guest, the ECW Champion, Mark Henry. Upon entering the ring, Tony Atlas told Miz and Morrison he hoped there would not be a repeat of last time.
They brought Chavo Guerrero out and Miz and Morrison replaced his theme music with their own singing. Even Henry was laughing. They said Finlay could not get a babysitter, so they introduced his "brothers" from Belfast. Miz and Morrison, in a pretaped skit, pretended to be a couple of drunken Irishmen. Everyone in the ring was laughing.
Finlay's music hit and he came out with Hornswoggle. Finlay told Horny to "say hello to his uncles." He ran and kicked Miz in the leg. Morrison introduced Jeff Hardy, but Finlay corrected him by saying Matt Hardy defeated Morrison to qualify for the Scramble. Hardy cut a promo calling Bam Neely and Tony Atlas gay.
Hardy ran down everyone before he turned to Henry. Henry told him to shut his mouth. Hardy and Henry went face to face and Miz told them they would not ruin The Dirt Sheet. Morrison attacked Hardy and all hell broke loose. For some reason, Evan Bourne and Tommy Dreamer hit the scene as the faces cleared the ring of the heels... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: Hardy still cannot cut a promo and that segment was average at best.
[Q2] The ruckus continued backstage and Teddy Long broke it up. He made an eight man tag team main event for tonight...
1. Super Crazy defeated Gavin Spears in 4:13. They announce Crazy as being from Mexico. That is like saying Triple H is from America. Spears cut a split screen promo saying despite his loss to Ricky Ortiz, he is still the crown jewel of the superstar initiative.
Spears used a lot of ground tactics early before Crazy sped things up upon taking over the match. He hit the springboard moonsault for the surprisingly clean win...
Twill's Two Cents: The crowd was not really into it, but the action was pretty solid given the short match length.
A promo aired for the new Mr. Perfect DVD collection... [C]
2. Ricky Ortiz defeated Ryan Braddock in 4:39 People are actually waving the Ricky O rally towels. Of course, this is Pittsburgh, the home of the Terrible Towel. Braddock hit a move pushing his knee into Ortiz's back from the top rope to the mat. Braddock stayed on the offensive by grounding Ricky.
[Q3] Ortiz was able to turn the tides. He hit a series of moves including a shoulder block from the middle rope. He then hit an in ring splash with extra extension for the win...
Twill's Two Cents: That is a shitty finishing move and while he is trying, Ortiz is hardly interesting. Braddock has some upside. They should push him.
Footage aired showcasing the saga of Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels...
The announcers plugged tonight's eight man event... [C]
Footage aired of Josh Matthews, Mr. Kennedy, and Mickie James aired at the Republican National Convention. This was different from last night's footage. Mickie sounded like she was reading a teleprompter...
Todd Grisham and Matt Striker ran down the Unforgiven card...
The participants of tonight's eight man tag main event began making their entrances... [C]
3. Matt Hardy, Finlay (with Hornswoggle), Evan Bourne, and Tommy Dreamer defeated Mark Henry (with Tony Atlas), The Miz, John Morrison, and Chavo Guerrero (with Bam Neely) in 14:32. Hardy and Morrison began the match. Finlay quickly tagged in, as did Chavo Guerrero. Striker said, "You must respect Chavo Guerrero; you must use the 'usted' form when referring to Chavo Guerrero. If you know Spanish, you will know that was awesome... [C]
Finlay and then Bourne took turns beating on Chavo coming back from commercial. Chavo gained the advantage, Miz continued the onslaught, and Mark Henry tagged in. He manhandled Bourne before tagging Miz back in. Bourne took the obligatory sustained beating.
[Overrun] Bourne gained the advantage by hitting a hurricarana on Morrison and he was lucky not to break his neck in the process. Dreamer received a hot tag and cleaned house at his pace. Henry tagged in however and mauled Dreamer. Matt Hardy made the next hot tag and scored a nearfall on Chavo.
Henry tagged in again and beat up Hardy until he missed a splash. Bourne tagged in and hit a Shooting Star Press on Henry. Dreamer followed with a top rope splash. Finlay did the same. Hardy tagged in, knocked Tony Atlas from the apron, and hit the Twist of Fate on Henry for the win...
Twill's Two Cents: Henry, despite taking the pinfall, looked like a star here every time he entered the ring and in the manner in which it took to defeat him. I hope he holds onto the title on Sunday.
What did you think of the show? Henry continues to shine and the Scramble looks promising. Let me know what you thought be sending an email to dotnetrich@gmail.com.
