7/19 Kester's WWE Superstars Live Coverage Review: Sin Cara vs. Drew McIntyre and more
Jul 19, 2012 - 03:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

Superstars on WWE.com
Taped earlier in Las Vegas, Nevada and San Diego, California.

1. Santino Marella vs. Jinder Mahal.Santino controlled Mahal with a rare showing of his mat-based offense. Mahal ended up flooring Mahal with a punch and he worked over Santino for the majority of the match.

Santino eventually made his comeback and put Mahal away with The Cobra…

Santino Marella defeated Jinder Mahal in 4:41.

Ryan's Reaction: Decent opener. The crowd was behind Marella but they gave Mahal almost no reaction.

[C] 2. Cody Rhodes vs. Alex Riley. Riley controlled the match early, and he clotheslined Rhodes to the floor. Rhodes made his way back into the ring and managed to turn the tables by dropkicking Riley to the floor when he was distracted by the referee…

[C] Back from the break, Rhodes worked over Riley with a series of stomps. Riley immediately battled back, but Rhodes managed to maintain control. Rhodes locked in a full nelson and Riley began to fade

Riley eventually made his comeback, but Rhodes managed to catch him with CrossRhodes for the 1-2-3...

Cody Rhodes defeated Alex Riley in 9:41

The Raw Rebound focused on John Cena's journey to the MITB ladder match, his victory, and subsequent challenge to CM Punk…

Ryan's Reaction: Riley is still sloppy in the ring. He has a good energy about him, but his timing seems to be off in his matches. Rhodes has fallen so far so fast. Before WrestleMania he seemed primed for a main event spot, yet now he's slumming it on Superstars with the other WWE undercarders.

[C] 3. The Uso Brothers vs. Johnny Curtis and Derrick Bateman. The Usos controlled the early going with quick tags and double-teaming on Bateman. Bateman tagged in Curtis but they were unable to gain the advantage.

Curtis managed to drag Jey to the floor and the heels gained control. Jey managed to get the hot tag to Jimmy, and Jimmy stormed the ring and hit a wrecking ball on Curtis. Bateman broke up the pin, but the Usos hit a Samoan Drop into a Superfly Splash for the pinfall victory...

The Uso Brothers defeated Derrick Bateman and Johnny Curtis in 4:12.

Ryan's Reaction: Decent for what it was, but the match was simply too short to amount to anything. The Usos have worked a great match in four minutes with a team before, but they did wit with guys that worked the tag team style and were able to do so at an insane and breath-taking pace.

[C] A recap of Daniel Bryan's proposal to AJ aired…

[C] 4. Sin Cara vs. Drew McIntyre. McIntyre dominated Sin Cara as the crappy mood lighting fell over the ring. Sin Cara hit some flip-based offense, but McIntyre managed to ground the high flyer and lock in a rest hold. McIntyre continued to rough Sin Cara up and he got some good heat from the crowd.

McIntyre hit a chain of backbreaker and gutbusters and utilized a jackknife cover for a near fall. Sin Cara battled back and hit a facebuster to get some breathing room. Sin Cara blitzed through his offense and hit a tornado DDT for the pinfall victory.

Sin Cara defeated Drew McIntyre in 7:21.

Ryan's Reaction: Drew McIntyre still has some of the best music in wrestling. Too bad we so rarely get to hear it. The match was pretty good. Sin Cara got in several fun spots and McIntyre worked his heel style well in between being an excellent base for Sin Cara's offense. The mood lighting really needs to go. It was a bad idea to begin with and now it only detracts from the match and telegraphs the victor. All in all, this was a decent edition of Superstars with the usual nothing special without anything offensively bad.
