6/28 Kester's WWE Superstars Live Coverage Review: Kofi Kingston vs. Michael McGillicutty, Epico vs. Darren Young, The Uso Brothers vs. Hunico and Camacho, and potentially more
Jun 28, 2012 - 03:40 PM |
By Ryan Kester
Superstars on WWE.com
Taped earlier in Fort Wayne and Evansville, Indiana.
1. Kofi Kingston vs. Michael McGillicutty. Kingston hit an early flurry of offense, but McGillicutty quickly gained control and took over.
Kingston came back with a series of aerial maneuvers, but McGillicutty caught Kingston in the ropes. Kingston sold on the mat while the show went to commercial…
[C] Back from the break, McGillicutty continued to work Kingston over with some shots to the spine in between rest holds. Kingston eventually battle back and ran through his move set.
Kingston connected with Trouble In Paradise to put McGillicutty away…
Kofi Kingston defeated Michael McGillicutty in 10:09.
Ryan's Reaction: Kingston is an absolute star in the ring. It's a shame the raw MITB match is closed to only former WWE Champions as Kingston could really use the red briefcase to rise to the top where he belongs.
[C] 2. Darren Young (w/A.W. and Titus O'Neill) vs. Epico (w/ Rosa and Primo). Young got the better of Epico early and he maintained the advantage through the majority of the match.
Epico made his comeback and hit a trio of back suplexes. A.W. distracted the referee and Titus took out Epico. Young followed up on Titus' attack with the Gut Check for the pinfall victory…
Darren Young beat Epico in 4:19
Ryan's Reaction: A.W. had a live mic headset the entire time, and he was absolutely obnoxious at ringside. It wasn't the heat-generating type of obnoxious; it was just distracting and annoying. I'm all for innovative ways for heels to get heat, but this subtracted from the presentation rather than adding to it. The match itself was ok, but it was rather basic. I've seen both men do more before, so this match never really felt like it got out of first gear.
[C] 3. The Uso Brothers vs. Hunico and Camacho. The Usos dominated in the early going, but Camacho managed to turn things around after he tagged in. Hunico and Camacho went to work on Jey Uso and worked a series of quick tags to keep him on their side of the ring.
Eventually, Jey got the hot tag to Jimmy, who wasted no time in blasting Hunico with a wrecking ball. Jimmy went for the Superfly Splash but Camacho distracted Jimmy long enough for Hunico to fend him off. The match broke down briefly and Jimmy tossed Hunico in the air only for him to land in a superkick from Jey. Jet covered Hunico for the pinfall victory...
The Uso Brothers defeated Hunico and Camacho in 5:36
Ryan's Reaction: Fun match for what it was, which is a pretty formulaic WWE tag match. Still, all four men have some in-ring talent and they could be key team for WWE if they decided to actually utilize the tag team division.
[C] The Raw Rebound focused on John Cena getting attacked at the end of Raw…
[C] Heath Slater cut a brief promo about people trying to take over his spotlight. He was cut off by Kane's pyro.
Kane wasted no time in tearing Slater apart. Slater got some breathing room off of a hotshot and a few shots to Kane's legs, but one throat thrust later, Kane was back on top.
Kane hit his flying clothesline and connected with a chokeslam to put Slater away.
Kane defeated Heath Slater in 2:54.
Ryan's Reaction: Say what you want about Slater, he can sell well for big guys and he is competent in the ring. If WWE were to actually utilize jobbers in the traditional sense, then Slater would be perfect for that role. Overall, this edition of Superstars was ok. Nothing terrible in the slightest, but nothing that you must absolutely see, either.
