5/10 Kester's WWE Superstars Live Coverage Review: Tyson Kidd vs. Hunico, Santino Marella and Zack Ryder vs. Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks, Ezekiel Jackson vs. Drew McIntyre, and Alicia Fox vs. Natalya
May 10, 2012 - 03:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

Superstars on WWE.com
Taped earlier in Greensboro, North Carolina and Roanoke, Virginia.

1. Ezekiel Jackson vs. Drew McIntyre.McIntyre went on offense early, but Jackson was able to make a quick comeback and toss him all around the ring. The two men traded control several times with both men getting plenty of offense in.

McIntyre eventually picked up the pinfall victory after connecting with the Future Shock DDT…

Drew McIntyre defeated Ezekiel Jackson in 3:41.

Ryan's Reaction: Quick and painless match. Both men did their parts, but there was nothing special about this match.

[C] 2. Alicia Fox vs. Natalya. The two women jawed briefly before exchanging roll-up attempts. Natalya slapped Fox, ran away, and then turned Fox's ire to her advantage by drawing her in to the corner and countering a big boot with a chop block. Natalya controlled the action while Fox got in a few hope spots.

Fox made a brief comeback and hit a picture-perfect bridging northern light's suplex for a near fall. Moments later, Natalya applied the Sharpshooter for the submission victory…

Natalya defeated Alicia Fox in 3:36.

Ryan's Reaction: Fox looked more impressive here than she has in the past. She still needs to work on dialing back the overselling, but she didn't come across anywhere near as green as she usually does. I'm sure of lot of the credit for that goes to Natalya, but she deserves some kudos for her work.

[C] 3. Hunico (w/ Camacho) vs. Tyson Kidd. Kidd took an early advantage but was quickly distracted by Camacho. Hunico took advantage and went on the offense and hit a facebuster for an early two-count.

Hunico worked over Kidd with a series of kicks, flips, and rest holds. Kidd made his comeback and went for his submission finisher, but Hunico kicked him off. Kidd dumped Hunico to the floor and followed with a dive, taking out Camacho in the process. Hunico hit a neckbreaker on the floor.

Hunico went for his high-angle senton, but Kidd got his knees up. Kidd went for a springboard maneuver, but Hunico reversed it mid-air into his swinging Samoan drop finisher for the pinfall victory…

Hunico defeated Tyson Kidd in 6:57.

Ryan's Reaction: Good showing from Hunico. This match served to show off his move set more than anything, and he has a lot to offer. I wish she wasn't saddled with this xenophobic gimmick, but he is making the most of it while consistently delivering a solid performance.

[C] A video package covering the Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H feud, including a recap of Paul Heyman's return, aired…

[C] 4. Santino Marella and Zack Ryder vs. Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks. Reks manhandled Santino in the early going, and Santino did some of his shtick before tagging in Ryder. Hawkins tagged in for his team, and the former Major Brothers fist bumped before locking up.

Hawkins slapped Ryder and Ryder flipped his lid. Santino tagged back in and the babyfaces went to work on Hawkins. Ryder took out both Hawkins and Reks with a dive before the show went to break…

[C] Back from commercial, Santino was working over Hawkins, but Hawkins quickly turned the tables and tagged in Reks. The heels worked a series of quick tags as they wore Santino down. Ryder got the hot tag and he wasted no time in hitting the Broski Boot on Reks.

Ryder set up for the Rough Ryder but Hawkins distracted Ryder long enough for Reks to recover. Reks and Hawkins began to work over Ryder while Santino got the crowd fired up on the apron.

Ryder eventually tagged in Santino, who worked over both Reks and Hawkins with his comedic move set before hitting The Cobra on Reks for the 1-2-3.

Santino Marella and Zack Ryder defeated Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks in 12:10.

Ryan's Reaction: I'm of two minds with that match. One, it was an entertaining affair with the majority of the actual wrestling coming from Hawkins and Reks while the babyfaces kept the crowd hot with their usual antics. Still, it is always aggravating seeing a young guy with talent fall to something as ridiculous as The Cobra. That's only a minor gripe in this environment, however, as a loss on Superstars really isn't going to set anyone's career back. Overall, this was a fairly decent and straight-forward edition of Superstars. We got more wrestling than usual and the amount of video packages was kept to a minimum.
