8/12 Twilling's ECW Live Coverage: Mark Henry and Matt Hardy vs. The Miz and John Morrison, Tommy Dreamer vs. Colin Delaney in an Extreme Rules Match
By Rich Twilling Aug 12, 2008 - 10:01 PM |
|
ECW on the SciFi Network
Taped 8/12/08 in Norfolk, VA
[Q1] The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the stage. Todd Grisham and Matt Striker welcomed us to the show. Striker plugged tonight's main event of Mark Henry and Matt Hardy vs. The Miz and John Morrison...
1. Tommy Dreamer defeated Colin Delaney in an Extreme Rules Match in 3:12. Delaney tried to run away after the opening bell rang. He tripped a few times and Dreamer caught him. Dreamer hit a pump handle suplex while holding onto the kendo stick. Dreamer put Delaney into the tree of woe and dropkicked a garbage can into his face. Dreamer hit the DDT on a stop sign for the win...
Twill's Two Cents: I actually thought they were going to give Colin this win. I am glad I was wrong.
Backstage, Lena Yada interviewed Miz and Morrison. They showed highlights of The Dirt Sheet from last week, which led to the booking of this week's main event. Morrison called his team the Pineapple Express of WWE. Miz said they were winners and their opponents tonight were losers... [C]
The Smackdown Rebound aired. It was the same one as last night and it was very well done...
[Q2] 2. Evan Bourne defeated Bam Neely (with Chavo Guerrero) in 3:08. Grisham took a shot at Braden Walker by saying, "Some of these newer athletes make a splash but are never heard from again." Bourne was impressive early before Bam gained the advantage briefly. Bourne hit a tornado DDT, followed by the Shooting Star Press for the win...
Twill's Two Cents: Bourne has "it."
Backstage, Teddy Long was talking to Tiffany, who looked smoking hot, when Armando Estrada walked in. Estrada put his "contract" in Teddy's chest and told him to sign it. The contract was two sheets and a six year old could have produced it. Long signed the contract and called for some champagne. He then put Armando in a match against Finlay. Armando was stoic... [C]
[Q3] 3. Finlay (with Hornswoggle) defeated Armando Estrada in 5:26. Finlay dominated Estrada in the first few minutes. Mike Knox appeared on the stage. Estrada took advantage of Finlay looking at Knox and gained upper hand in the match. Finlay took over and hit the Celtic Cross, which Striker referred to as Emerald Fusion, for the win...
Some red headed kid came into the ring and danced with Finlay and Hornswoggle after the match... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: Striker put over Finlay like he owed him a lot of money or something. The match was fine when Finlay was on the offensive. Estrada is a little uncoordinated in the ring.
Backstage, Ricky Ortiz walked in on Teddy and Tiffany enjoying their champagne. He had the "Ricky O" rally towel. He thought it would be a good investment for Long to buy 50,000 of them. Long said he wanted Ortiz to prove himself over a long period of time, and booked him in a match next week vs. a new superstar. Ricky was happy and gave Tiffany his towel. She spun it around and said it was fun...
The Raw Rebound aired. Striker said he thought Ricky Ortiz was arrogant and no one liked an arrogant person. The announcers then ran down the SummerSlam card and Grisham called it the best ever...
[Q4] Backstage Matt Hardy told Mark Henry he would rather team with anyone so he would not have to worry about his partner as much as he worries about his opponents. Henry said this was not one of those "you stay out of my way" scenarios. He wanted Hardy in his way so he could go through him, just like he would at SummerSlam... [C]
4. Mark Henry (with Tony Atlas) and Matt Hardy defeated The Miz and John Morrison in 8:42. Striker said, "Miz has on his signature hat; I wonder if it comes in men's?" Striker is a better and funnier face than Cena is. Before the match, the referee had the teams switch corners so Hardy could be facing the hard camera.
Henry started and beat up both Miz and Morrison. They cleared the ring and had the obligatory distant face off in the ring... [C]
Matt Hardy slammed Morrison and tagged in Henry as the show came back from commercial. Striker made a nice point about how neither Miz nor Morrison was pinned to lose their tag team titles. Grisham called that match a triple threat tag team match when it was a fatal fourway.
[Overrun] Hardy took the double team beatdown from Miz and Morrison. Hardy hit the Side Effect from the second rope. He went for the cover and the referee counted to three although there seemed to be some confusion. Henry came in and disposed of Miz and Morrison. He and Atlas raised Hardy's hand in victory. He then gave him the World's Strongest Slam onto the belt...
Twill's Two Cents: Decent match and cool post match activity. I am not sure if the new referee was supposed to count to three or what, but that definitely looked awkward.
What did you think of the show? I thought it was another solid hour although not as good as in previous weeks. Feel free to let me know by shooting an email to dotnetrich@gmail.com.
