ECW on The SciFi Network
Taped 7/29/08 in Hershey, PA
[Q1] A video package aired of last week’s phenomenal fatal fourway main event, won by Matt Hardy. With the win, he won the right to face Mark Henry at Summerslam for the ECW Title…
The opening video aired, fireworks lit up the stage, and Tazz welcomed us to the show. Tazz welcomed “five year veteran” Todd Grisham as his new broadcast partner. Todd mocked Adamle by asking Tazz if he was supposed to call him “Tazz” or “The Tazz.” Tazz said “Tazz” was okay…
Matt Hardy came out for a promo. He said he has been involved in some of the most extreme matches in WWE history, so his move to the ECW brand was a natural one. He called his match at Summerslam the biggest of his career.
Mark Henry and Tony “I failed Speech class” Atlas came out to the ring. Atlas forgot to include verbs in his sentences. Atlas gave Henry a steel bar and compared the bar to Hardy. He bent the bar. It was impressive.
Hardy said they were not having a bar bending contest; they were having a wrestling match. He said inanimate objects like a bar or frying pan do not fight back, but Hardy does. He said Henry could break his bones but never his spirit. He said he would become the champion at Summerslam…
Twill’s Two Cents: I am surprised Atlas did not make mention of Hardy’s taped fists. I figured Grisham would get the job and he has paid his dues with the company, so good for him.
Grisham plugged Finlay and Hornswoggle vs. Miz and Morrison. Ricky Ortiz was shown walking through the backstage area… [C]
[Q2] 1. Ricky Ortiz defeated Chavo Guerrero (with Bam Neely) by disqualification in 4:15. Ortiz motioned to the crowd but they did not react to him at all. Maybe his mother was in the stands. Ortiz hit a gorilla press drop followed by a flying shoulder block from the second rope.
Chavo tried to score the pin while putting his feet on the ropes but the referee saw it and disqualified Chavo. After the match, Bam Neely attacked Ortiz and hit a full nelson slam. He then held Ortiz’s feet for Chavo to hit a frog splash. Evan Bourne came down and hit a top rope spring board dropkick on Chavo. He got away before Chavo or Bam could get to him…
Twill’s Two Cents: I am not digging Ortiz at all, but I like the idea of a Chavo vs. the new guys feud.
Backstage, Colin Delaney approached Mark Henry and Tony Atlas. He wondered why Henry and Atlas left him hanging last week. They told him that he needed to earn Henry’s respect. Atlas suggested Delaney wrestle Hardy tonight to soften him up for Henry. Delaney reluctantly agreed… [C]
Did you know? Last Tuesday night, ECW was SciFi’s most watched program…
Miz and Morrison made separate entrances this week. Grisham said Morrison and Miz gave him a list of nicknames. He mispronounced “Shaman.” Morrison wore a bracelet that said “winner.” He put a bracelet on a fan that said “loser.”…
[Q3] 2. The Miz and John Morrison defeated Finlay and Hornswoggle in 11:57. After some double teaming against Finlay, Hornswoggle interfered to turn the tides. They cleared the ring of the former champions as the show went to commercial… [C]
Finlay was on the offensive against Morrison coming back from the break. Finlay locked in a single leg Boston Crab. He continued to control Morrison for a few minutes at least. Morrison used illegal interference by Miz to regain the advantage for his team.
Hornswoggle tagged himself into the match and tried a hurricarana on Morrison, who countered it into a faceplant for the win…
Twill’s Two Cents: They went twelve minutes and there was some solid action, but the match just dragged on and on.
After the match, Mike Knox came in and attacked Finlay. He looked like he was going to attack Hornswoggle, but he laid out Finlay instead before retreating up the ramp…
[Q4] Grisham plugged the Matt Hardy vs. Colin Delaney match… [C]
